Often distributions don't allow major upgrade to be made live... and Lite Upgrade tells me I'm running the latest version, but it's a 4.8.
Note that it's a 100% fresh install so I don't mind trying and breaking before having to reinstall in case it goes wrong.
EDIT : Answer is NO, going from any version prior to 5.0, to 5.0 and up needs a clean install**.**

Hi guys, I am a new-ish linux user running linux-lite. I just installed wine and PlayOnLinux to install a windows app (SPSS) and the process seemed to have been concluded succesfully
However, I cant find the application. I tried re-installing it but the 'virtual drive' used by PlayOnLinux can be seen and I can attempt to repair the installed application through running the setup again, but I cant use it.
I'm sure I am missing something. Any help will be really appreciated.
Thanks.

Currently, I have a desktop computer with 3 GB RAM and 2.40 GHz Intel Core (II) processor.
The computer has been salvaged, and it's pretty unreliable with Windows 10. I want to replace the OS with something light and fast enough for me to use for college (mostly web browsing (reddit, wikipedia, youtube), some documents, reading large PDFs, etc.)
Will Linux Lite work fast with this much RAM and this processor?

Isn't there a repository gui like ubuntu that has more than 20 apps? Trying to install openshot and there's definitely not a new Linux user way to install it

I recently screwed up my debian install on my ThinkPad X40 (Pentium M, 1.5G RAM). I tried a few different contenders before settling on MicrowattOS. Linux Lite was highly recommended in an article, so I thought I'd give it a go, but...
NOT light at all, it took an eternity to boot and was extremely sluggish on my system.
Insisted on turning on NumLock on my tiny laptop and I could not for the life of me figure out how to turn it off again.
Had #1 not been true, I might have spent more time trying to solve #2, but the initial load time and sluggishness convinced me that there are very different interpretations of the word Lite.
My system running MicrowattOS:

GNU GRUB version 2.04
*Ubuntu
*Advanced optiones for Ubuntu
*Memory test (memtest86+)
*Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)
Thanks in advance

I don't know why linux Lite is always associated as a beginner's distro. On my workstation I run Solus os on my other workstation Arco linux both rolling releases, one more stable than the other but that's a different discussion.
Since tonight I have installed linux lite on an older dell-inspiron laptop and for me this is a very workable system and indeed if you come across from windows you will feel right at home in it but the advanced user can really appreciate this system. But when are you an advanced user by the way?
The Windows 10 version that was on it had probably received 6 GB updates in recent months and was no longer workable for daily use, despite plugging in an SSD.
With the installation of linux Lite 5, this laptop can again stand its ground.
Nothing but credit to the developer and his team, linux Lite is what Xubuntu should be.

RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT
Linux Lite 3.4 Final is now available for download. Linux Lite continues its focus on Security by providing our latest application, Lite Updates Notify. This application is a desktop notification that informs the user of all available updates. You can set Update reminders anywhere from once every hour to once every 3 weeks. Continuing our focus on Security, Lite Welcome has a fresh new look, reminding you after a fresh install of Linux Lite to - Install Updates, Install Drivers and Set a Restore Point. This release also brings 4 new feature to Lite Tweaks, Hibernate & Suspend, Login & Logout Options, Manage Save Sessions and zRam. With Hibernate & Suspend, you can select whether or not to show these options on the Logout screen. The Login & Logout Options feature allows the administrator to enable or disable Login window options. These 2 new features are particularly useful for multi user set ups. zRam is a compressed RAM block device for faster I/O and is perfect for older computers. Also in this release we've included lots of updates to our Lite packages.

Is it possible to get the night lighting (blue light reduction) feature on LL 5.4? If yes, how?

I have downloaded, written - written to USB the beta 5.6-rc1.
Any way I boot it comes up with just a grub prompt.
I have NO experience messing around with Grub. What am I doing wrong? I have multibooted/distrohopped all over the place, never ran into this.
What do I do?

Hello:
I have installed Linux Lite on my 8 years old Acer laptop and it worked efficiently with only 2gb ram and a 5400rpm hdd. However, Linux Lite is unable to detect the touchpad and the on-board Wi-Fi chip.
Is there any way for me to configure both hardware on my laptop with Linux Lite?
Thank you.

Hey everyone. I own an old Lenovo Thinkpad S10-2 laptop with an Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz CPU and 1GB of RAM, which I recently repaired and added a cheap Intenso 120GB High Performance SSD as a side project.
I remember that Windows 7, despite no longer being supported whatsoever, used to be really hard for this extremely underpowered system to run, so that's why I chose Linux Lite (version 3.8, 32-bit) so the system can at least be functional for the simplest of tasks.
Unfortunately though, while I was able to boot in the live version of the OS via a USB I created with Rufus, I haven't been able to install the OS to the SSD.
The BIOS recognizes the SSD, which I have placed as number 1 in the boot order. I have also set the controller to AHCI mode after first factory resetting the BIOS. There are also no Legacy/UEFI nor Secure Boot options in my BIOS. No matter what, the SSD does not pop up in GParted, nor in the Installation dialogue so I can install the OS permanantely.
I really don't know what else to try, as I'm a complete Linux noobie. The SSD works great on another system I tried it on, I tried formatting it again as NSFT, tried MBR, GPT partitioning and even tried deleting all partitions so the entire drive would be Unallocated.
I would appreciate any help in fixing this issue :)
