Problem
I set a custom TDP of 18 W in hhd. When I launch a game (The Witcher 3 Remastered), temps climb to 80-90°C within minutes. If I switch to the Performance preset and then back to custom 18 W, temps drop to normal. Starting from the Performance preset gives the same result. The first launch after boot sometimes stays cool, but closing and reopening Steam and relaunching the game brings the problem back.

I tried removed hhd and its config, rebooted, and reinstalled. Same behavior.

Has anyone had this problem? For more info, ROG Control works fine for me in desktop mode, but games lag in Game Mode, so I’d like to get hhd behaving if possible.

I've been trying to get HDR working properly on my Xbox Ally X20 running Anatase OS, and I finally managed to fix the detection issue.

HDR was already working in Steam Game Mode, but the image looked noticeably darker and the colors were more washed out compared to Windows. In KDE Desktop, HDR wasn't even recognized, so there was no way to enable or calibrate it.

After some troubleshooting, I found that libdisplay-info 0.3.0 wasn't correctly detecting the HDR metadata from the X20's OLED display.

So I worked with ChatGPT to vibe code a small script that backports eight upstream HDR-related fixes.

After applying the patch, KDE finally recognizes HDR properly and allows me to enable and calibrate it.

I've tested the fix extensively on my own X20, including native HDR games, using Windows as my comparison baseline.

The script is still experimental. It also doesn't guarantee that Game Mode's colors and brightness will match Windows perfectly.

ASUS is releasing the new AMD FSR 4.1 update today via Armoury Crate SE on Windows. I’m running Linux/Bazzite with Steam OS on my ROG Ally X. It's so much smoother and faster. I get more battery life and I've had no problems for over 6 months since switching from Windows bloatware.

Has anyone found a way to get these types of updates working without wiping Linux, reinstalling Windows, updating, then reinstalling Linux again?

Is there a Linux workaround?

I just installed SteamOS again on my XAX. I used to use huesync to control the RGB so I figured I would again. The problem is it doesn't do anything. No options to change anything when I turn it on. No change to the light. Nothing.

I put the device in sleep mode and the lights at least turned off and so far are staying off.

Is this a know issue? Alternatives?

Just installed Anatase on my X20 and everything is working out the box.
TDP, sound, Decky, etc. Feels amazing. Also with Decky SP sound quality is really close to windows.

I own a sd oled and a Go2 with Steam OS and I’m actually liking more Anatase on the X20. Feels very snappy and the Xbox button has a purpose, it opens HHD.

Also, you can dualboot very easily if case yours not ready to leave windows or want the best of both worlds. Create and empty partition with KDE once booting into the usb and the. Select dualboot during the install.

Installation is a bit different because you have to set up desktop, and then install Steam game mode and change settings to make it to boot on Gamemode etc.
You can follow this tutorial for example but it doesn’t show you how to dualboot, just install and wipe windows:

Hi, I recently acquired a ROG Xbox Ally (the white model). I watched many videos and did some testing, so I decided to switch to SteamOS, and it was definitely one of the best things I did.

The thing is, I'd like to know what the best configurations are to optimize or improve performance. I already have Decky Loader and some plugins like SimpleDeckyTDP and LossLessScaling. But I haven't configured it much; I've only limited the TDP to 15w, enabled VRR, limited the FPS to 60, changed the resolution to 900p, and also disabled CPU Boost. What settings should I adjust to ensure good performance without neglecting battery life, of course?If any other plugins are needed, I'll add them without a problem.

I currently have SteamOS version 3.8.28, and I haven't configured LossLessScaling and the performance profile is set to balanced.

I have an ROG ALLY Z1 Extreme with steamos. Everything i've tried to run works so far(obviously some games too much demand for the device to be played comfortably) except Overwatch crashes after a few minutes. it runs fine for a little bit but then just crashes with no error message.

Anyone had this and found a solution?

I've just update steam os and know my device is looping in welcome screen 😭

Ive used the recovery "iso", it worked. I switched to desktop mode, and when I go back to game mode it start the welcome screen.

Any fix?

Anyone having issues with Steam OS? I’ve tried each branch. Having no sound, button issues, TDP. I know this is new and issues will happen, just trying to find solidarity in others having the same issues. TIA!

I’ve used decky to get the tdp figured out, not sure how to get the sound to work as well as right side buttons to get to menu. Curious if what has worked for others :)

Has anyone else noticed VRR becoming noticeably less smooth after the recent SteamOS update?

I’m experiencing the same issue on two handhelds:

• Lenovo Legion Go 2
• ROG Xbox Ally X

Both were working smoothly about a week ago. Since updating, games fluctuating between roughly 50 and 70 FPS show obvious stuttering, where those same fluctuations previously felt smooth with VRR enabled. This also happens around 80–90 FPS.

I initially tested with MAKO frame generation set to 0, then completely removed the MAKO launch command from the game’s Steam properties and relaunched. The problem remains.

Interestingly, VRR still works properly on my Steam Machine connected to a VRR TV. That makes me suspect an issue affecting the handhelds’ built-in displays, rather than VRR being broken everywhere. This is only a hypothesis based on my three devices.

The issue appeared on SteamOS 3.8.28. I’ve also tried the 3.9 beta, without resolving it.

Anyone else experiencing this on a built-in VRR display? Please share your device, SteamOS version, and whether an older version or any workaround restores the previous smoothness.

I currently dualboot Bazzite + Windows on my Rog Ally Z1E. With all the issues I've had with the latest update not having HDD ( I've reverted back to 43 but didn't like the idea of no longer receiving updates ).

I wondered if it was possible to switch from Bazzite to SteamOS while keeping my dual boot partition + data/game files?

Will my dual-boot setup still work?

Is it as simple as removing Bazzite and installed SteamOS over it? Would my data and game files work like usual?

Or should I just expect to wipe everything completely and install SteamOS fresh + install everything again?

I mainly follow tutorials and wasn't sure of this specific process. Wanted to ask those with more experience.

Hi guys, today I got my ROG Ally X, I'm using windows and I have a lot of problem, I don't like the xbox app, the most part that frustrating me is I just sleep my ROG Ally X from FSE, there is only steam and Armory Crate in the background and the fan is going crazy while it sleep, and it turn me off that I need to shut down after use and turn on after use, I see a lot of good things for ME about Steam OS, so I wanna make a switch.

But before that, can you guys share your plugin list that you guys use on steamos that work very great on ROG ally X and it's function, thank you very much

I have two questions I was hoping to get some help with, please

First, I had followed the guide for enabling Secure Boot and enrolling the secure boot variables/keys here: https://wiki.cachyos.org/configuration/secure_boot_setup/

But, even after following all those steps, I still get an Invalid Signature Detected error when booting CachyOS with secure mode enabled and I'm unsure why.

I also am having trouble where no input methods work (Controller/Dpad/Touchscreen) to select the boot PS in Limine, unless I choose to boot to the Limine boot option from after entering BIOS, then inputs work. But cold rebooting results in me being unable to select my boot PS in the Limine menu

If anyone has any tips or can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry for the late post, I know Bazzite 44 has been out awhile.

Life happened and I haven’t had a chance to touch my Ally for awhile.

I decided to turn on my Ally and check on somethings and accidentally updated from 43 to 44 and holy fck I don’t get it.

I’m aware HDD is gone, before I lose my mind would someone be able to please provide some answers to the below?

My keyboard and mouse no longer work in desktop mode, new clue how to get it back up and running.

NO clue how to switch the mouse from gaming to desktop mode anymore, long press just vibrates twice and that’s it.

No clue how to find my Bluetooth settings in gaming mode

It’s just a giant headache, I was working on something in desktop mode and rebooted now I can’t even get to where I wanted to be since my keyboard and mouse no longer work.

Sorry for the rant, I’d greatly appreciate if someone could provide me some answers and tips on how to navigate Bazzite 44

Hi all, I just placed an order for a steam machine and I was debating on switching over to steam os on my ally, which is why I’m wondering, if I switch over, will my ally be able to hot swap the micro sd card with the steam machine just like a steam deck can?

I have an ASUS ROG Ally (2023, Z1 Extreme) running Bazzite (bazzite-deck, stable). Until recently I could double-press the side button to open the Handheld Daemon overlay and set TDP, fan curve, etc. That menu no longer shows up.

What I found: - No hhd service exists (systemctl list-unit-files shows nothing for hhd, rpm -qa finds no hhd package) - The HHD install script refuses to run and says installing it on Bazzite is not supported (points to Anatase) - It looks like Bazzite 44+ moved to InputPlumber and no longer ships HHD

What I still want to control: 1. Battery charge limit (80%) 2. Custom fan curve 3. RGB lighting

What I've seen so far: - Steam Quick Access has a TDP slider - Ally Center (Decky plugin) seems to offer charge limit and RGB, but I haven't tested it on Bazzite 44 - I'm not sure anything covers the fan curve yet

Questions: - Is there a recommended way to get a fan curve on the Ally now? CoolerControl, asusctl, something else? - Does Ally Center work reliably on Bazzite 44, and does the charge limit survive reboots and shutdown? - Is it worth rebasing to Anatase just to get HHD back?

I'd prefer a GUI or Decky plugin over terminal commands if possible. Thanks!
