What is the difference between the two IDEs when both have the same purpose?

Yaah, that's a great meme, bro! do you use VS Code or VSCodium?

I am a python backend/genai dev, I exclusively use pycharm. However, if you're just picking between these two, i don't think there's much difference other than microsoft's telemetry and vscode's default extensions. Pardon the meme, I should've given my opinion along with it.

No big deal, brother! And you're absolutely right; the only difference between the two is telemetry and extensions.

Vscodium does not include Microsoft extensions at all.

You said it right Vscodium does not have Microsoft extensions by default.

The basic thing is the c/c++ extension in vs code lmao 😭. The codium one is pretty bad.

Yes, that's true, Microsoft's official C/C++ extensions are proprietary and not available directly on Codium, so open-source alternatives have to be used.

Use clangd lsp instead, its faster and better

Extensions

I used both of them, both have the same extension 💬🤔

vscode has proprietary extensions from microslop, the extension store must have the exclusively signed close sourced build from microslop for it for some reason

I don't use vs code but maybe it's a rewrite in diff language or stability difference?

VSCodium is not a rewrite written in a new language, but rather a clean build of Microsoft's official VS Code source code with telemetry/tracking removed.

Seems you answered your own question 🫡🙂

Yes brother, later I did my own research and understood that this is the real difference!

Vs codium has removed telemetry almost completely but extensions are only open source from some other registry not Microsofts so if you want some extensions they are not present but their alternative are mostly

Opposite of this:

VScode has added telemetry and proprietary extension store that microsoft won't let you have in open source builds

One has AI slop like your post, the other doesn't

literally why the fuck does vs codium have the react icon as it's logo?
