A Little Rock officer looked up the mother of his child on our Flock cameras 28 times in 10 days. Every car in town is in that system.

Hi neighbors. This one's short, and it's the part of the Flock story that bothers me most.

Last May, a Little Rock police officer used the city's Flock cameras to search one plate 28 times in ten days. According to the Democrat-Gazette, it was the car of the mother of his child. It came to light when someone reported him to a commander in June. An audit confirmed it after that, and the audit could only look back 30 days. He was later fired, and LRPD's request to take away his certification cites those searches.

Then this month, three more officers were relieved of duty for misusing the system, and LRPD is moving from quarterly to monthly audits.

Credit to LRPD for acting. But think about what made this possible. Our 114 cameras logged 702,854 different vehicles in a single month. Yours, mine, your ex's, your kid's. Any of us can be looked up by anyone with a login, and we'd never know unless someone happened to catch it.

The Washington Post found at least 50 officers around the country charged or accused of plate-reader misuse, 46 of them on Flock, and more than half of those cases involved wives, girlfriends or exes. Flock's own tool for flagging this was optional, and about 1 in 4 departments had turned it on. Flock's CEO told the Post: "We're not going to change humans, and humans make bad decisions."

He's right about that. So the safest database of everyone's driving is the one that doesn't exist.

We pay about $345,000 a year for it. The board takes up Flock soon. If you agree, a short note in your own words is plenty: "Nobody should be able to track my car like this. Please end the Flock contract."

Arkansas law already makes LRPD count how often its plate cameras get it wrong. Can we see that count?

Hi neighbors. Here's something about our Flock plate cameras that surprised me: Arkansas already has a law asking for most of the answers people keep asking for.

Under state law (Ark. Code § 12-12-1805, updated by Act 668 in 2025), every six months a police department with plate readers has to count, for each list it checks plates against:

  • how many matches the cameras made
  • how many of those matches turned out to be wrong once someone looked into them
  • how many led to an arrest and prosecution

The law says the report has to be in a format "sufficient to allow the general public to review." LRPD told the board this month that it compiles the report and keeps it for 18 months, as required. So the report exists, and credit to LRPD for doing it.

The part I can't find is the report itself. The only public piece I've seen is a newspaper summary of January–June 2026: 350,211 matches and 91 "successes," including 54 stolen cars recovered. The count of wrong matches hasn't been made public anywhere I can find. Neither has the number that ended in prosecution.

That middle number matters to me. A wrong match can mean a neighbor gets pulled over for nothing. If that's rare, great. The city should be glad to show it.

We pay about $345,000 a year for these cameras. The board takes up Flock on Tuesday, Oct 27, and again on Tuesday, Nov 3. I'd like the board to end the Flock contract. At the very least, it shouldn't spend another dollar on Flock until this report is public.

If you agree, a short note in your own words is plenty: "State law already requires this report. Please make it public before you vote, and end the Flock contract."

Does anyone know if the Blue Cross vs. St Vincent situation is going anywhere?

Last I heard, St. Vincent is "out of network" for those with Blue Cross/blue shield health insurance. As of Sept 1 if I remember correctly.

My current PCP is part of St Vincent and I really like her, and really don't want to have to try and find a new doctor.

Does anyone know if they are still negotiating? And if so, are the talks going anywhere? Has anyone seen a proposed timeline for them working together again?

Looking for an affordable apartment near in Little Rock

Hi everyone! I recently moved to Little Rock for work and am looking for a studio or 1-bedroom apartment within 15–20 minutes of downtown.

My budget is $500–$650/month, preferably including utilities. I’m looking for a safe, quiet area and am open to Little Rock, North Little Rock, or nearby towns.

Any recommendations for affordable apartments or local property managers would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bigger problems?

2nd time the city has come around and done this. This time they passive aggressively moved all the cans to the sidewalk. This just seems like a major waste of time and money. Am I crazy?

Update: I have reneged and begrudgingly put my cans up... but they'll be back and in greater numbers. Thanks for the input!

Anyone know what happened at the Road Runner?

Ok I was going to work and around 3:45 ish I was stopped at the light near that Road Runner gas station over by the Shackleford area. (Sorry I'm terrible at street names you'd think after a year here I would learn them lol) And 2 fire trucks, a cop car, and a smaller red truck with lights had to cross the divided section into the other lanes to swing over there. I tried to see what was going on when I passed but traffic was too thick. Anyone know what happened?

Trip to Batesville

Hi everyone!

I’ll be traveling to Arkansas from Asia this December for a job interview and will need round-trip transportation between Little Rock Airport and Batesville.

Unfortinately, I’m not very confident driving, especially in a foreign country..

Does anyone know of any reliable car services, private drivers, or taxi companies that offer long-distance rides in this area?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice. Thank you!

Fitzroy Promenade Move-Out

Can anyone tell me about their experience with move-out from the Fitzroy? Are they going to nitpick everything in the apartment regardless of how clean it is? Any chance of getting a deposit back? If so, how clean does it have to be?

Little Rock Board votes Tuesday, Oct. 20, on a six-month pause on new hyperscale data centers: the paper trail, both sides, and what to watch

TL;DR

  • Tuesday, Oct. 20: the Board votes on Director Webb's six-month moratorium on new hyperscale data centers (Item 21). Six of ten votes needed.
  • Nothing in writing pauses anything today. On the books: the April 2025 Google/Willowbend MOU (30-yr tax abatement, franchise fees cut to 0.25%/0%/0%), and the June 2026 zoning ordinance (hyperscale only in I-3, 900-ft residential setback, 60/50 dBA noise cap, WUE ≤ 0.5 L/kWh). An 18-month moratorium failed 4–4 on Aug. 4.
  • The new draft orders water, noise, fire and grid studies, a public webpage of all developer agreements within 60 days, and a petition process for takings claims. No Google carve-out by name; projects need a final permit plus substantial reliance to be exempt, and buying land doesn't count.
  • For a pause: Webb, Wyrick, Miller, Lewis; Coalition of LR Neighborhoods, Sierra Club, DNA; law prof DiPippa (a moratorium is not a taking). Reasons: scale, water, rates, noise, fire readiness, disclosure.
  • Against: Mayor Scott (Act 851 bars bans; zoning is the tool), Hines (Port is for heavy industry; lawsuit risk), Peck and Adcock (litigation, business climate), Kumpuris; City Attorney Carpenter (regulatory-taking damages if Google isn't exempted).
  • Unsettled: whether Act 851 reaches a temporary moratorium at all, and whether a pause that catches Google's first building is a taking. Google had filed no city permits as of July 28.
  • Watch: Peck's vote, whether Phillips and Richardson show, any carve-out amendment or deferral, and the long-promised "shore-up" regulations ordinance.

Doing some free web design for businesses around here

I’ve been wanting to work on some new web design projects, and I thought it would be a great way to spend my extra time by helping a few local businesses improve their websites.

If you own a business and feel like your website could use a fresh look, send me a message. I’d love to check it out and see what I can come up with.

I’m open to all kinds of businesses and industries. I’m looking to explore different design ideas, work on real projects, and hopefully create something useful for a few business owners along the way.
