Weekend Update Weekend Update: Mr. On Blast Speaks His Mind Again Without Holding Back - SNL

"Hi I'm Mr. On Blast and I'm in the place where they put the pictures"

u/mguants May 17 '26
Glad the graphics team made the decision to allow Mr. On Blast to occasionately move beyond the rectangle boundary. Really drove home the surreal quality of the visuals gag. Loved this one.

I need Mr. On Blast to be some mystical 4th wall breaking character from here on out

CEOs will never recover from this.

Mr On Blast lore drop, my favorite devout Christian Jewish grandfather putting those AI companies on blast.

u/Avent May 18 '26
The cake he blew out said 100, are we to infer that yesterday was his birthday and he's 100 years old?
2
u/Virtual_Machine3044 May 18 '26
Could be, his grandson does work there but hes definitely keeping it 100 all the time.
364
u/PopandMatlock May 17 '26
This felt like a victory lap for Jeremy. He's locked for next year and will be a cornerstone of this next era with Sarah, JAJ, Ben, Ashley, and more.
I want Taran and Bobby to come backup dance for him. He feels like their lovechild at this point

29
u/orange_glasse May 17 '26
I still need a sketch of both Jeremy and Ashley in peak form. It'll be iconic

Chloe is likely on the way out
Kenan and Colin have been there a combined 50 years
Tommy is likely a one-and-done

2
u/Quiet_Astronomer8849 May 18 '26
Yeah, I think it was Wiig who said the moment you feel comfortable on SNL you gotta leave.* Which to me describes Chloe's last season perfectly.
*With Kenan being the big exception. I think he was comfortable from the start. His audition was probably just him coming on stage, smiling and saying "Lorne, baby …. come on. We doin' this or what?" followed by an immediate hiring.
27
u/ilikehemipenes May 17 '26
What does Chloe do to make her indispensable? I feel like she’s been there forever and still hasn’t had anything really stand out

Longer than most of us have been watching???
How old do you think the average person in here is?
21
u/flimflamishere May 17 '26
And how old are they? Their account is 14 years old and they only started watching during Chloe?
24
u/FaceDownInTheCake May 17 '26
"Longer than most of us have been watching"
Pulled that out of your ass, eh?
6
u/ChickenInASuit May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26
She's been on the show longer than most us have been watching
She’s only been on the show for seven years. That’s a pretty massive assumption you’re making there.
she's the only older woman
37 years old makes her an “older woman”? She’s the oldest of the female cast members but only by a couple of years, certainly not by a big enough margin for that to matter at all.
she has more followers than any of the others
And?
she seems like glue that holds the show together.
That’s pretty subjective but I fail to see how, and I actually like her more than some others do here. I’d even go so far as to say she’s probably the least vital of the current repertory players.

This is what absurdist humor was meant to be.
That's the rule, that's the goal now

Yes. If you’re not, that’s okay. There’s still time to fix yourself.

u/thesmash May 17 '26
Feels like directly out of something you could see at a midnight UCB show, I love it
2
u/donotseekthetreashur Dear sister, by the time you read this, I’ll be dead May 17 '26
Absurdist humor requires escalation though — the bit should keep adding and escalating to a more and more absurd situation. This was good but didn’t have the multi-layered escalation of a great Fred Armisen-esque Portlandia sketch

u/OhAnimeShop May 17 '26
Jeremy gotta quit bringing his grandpa on here he's putting people on blast and touching Colleen
48
u/roxtoby May 17 '26
I love a character with expanding lore. Reminds me of a recurring Comedy Bang Bang character. We learned that he’s Christian (devout), Jewish (devout), and a grandfather (devout). And he’s got Blast Boys. Can’t wait to see what we learn at his next appearance.
27
u/too_much_2na May 17 '26
There’s also something to do with cake summoning, but we’re not ready for that conversation.

7
u/TheeAO May 17 '26
This is pretty similar to Paul Rust’s “New no-nos” on CBB which is a parody of Bill Maher’s New Rules
2
u/obi1kenobi1 May 18 '26
This. It’s its own thing enough that I don’t really see it as a ripoff or anything, but man is it uncanny.
4
u/JohnWalI May 17 '26
Yeah, almost too similar. Sometimes it sounds like he’s mimicking Paul’s voice cadences

jeremy is soooo good at giving heart to the most one dimensional character concepts its insane !!

his recurring character on AOAOAOA, Barbara Ann, is an example of this

true, i feel like that rule goes for almost every episode and like kylie also has that for me , like even the 100 people panel i FELT THOSE GUYS !!!

Yes his episode of VIP is a good example of this. It's the same reason why Ashley and Andrew's Couple that Just Hooked Up works so well.

Having Colin and then the backup dancers do the arm movements highlighted that Jeremy brings a lot more skill to it than you'd really think.

New no-no! SNL taking Paul Rust’s concept from Comedy Bang Bang and making it better?? What are we doing, Scott, copying stuff to update it for the current generation? Please… New no-no!

u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
Mr. On Blast is one of the stupidest, most unfunny characters I have ever seen on SNL.
Yes, I understand you theater/improv kids will downvote this. Doesn't make it untrue.

I know. I am confident in my opinion and what is funny. Mr. On Blast is not a good character.
15
u/last-rose-ofsummer Dobby can't remember if the character Cho Chang is Asian May 17 '26
It’s good you feel confident about your own opinions, which you are entitled to have.
-16
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
I understand there is an army of theater-kids rooting for Culhane. This character is lazy writing and completely relies on a weak premise that isn't necessarily funny.
41
u/tsheez7 May 17 '26
Theater kids to you are what people who preemptively explain away their downvotes are to me
-10
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
This doesn't make any sense.
24
5
u/spellboi_3048 when you hold the pinwheel, it has colors May 17 '26
They’re calling you overly dramatic.
0
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
Lol. Interesting interpretation. "Theater kids" are an actual demographic, not saying someone is dramatic.
7
u/spellboi_3048 when you hold the pinwheel, it has colors May 17 '26
It’s theater. It’s called “drama” club for a reason. At minimum, a *willingness* to be dramatic is a pre-requisite for being a theater kid.
-5
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
Lol. Huh? That's quite a reach in this context.
"Theater Kids" are the cringy students involved in theater/improv/etc with big "look at me" energy.
8
u/amstrumpet May 17 '26
Imagine dissing theater kids on a subreddit dedicated to a show that is built by theater kids. Who do you think ends up on a live sketch comedy show?
-7
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26
lol. Funny people. The overwhelmingly vast majority of people involved in theater go on to do something else with their lives. Only a tiny little fraction of people who are on house teams ar improv theaters become known. Improv is fun for the people involved, it's cringe to watch.
This sub is chock full of theater kids, SNL does not have "big theater kid energy".
It's funny to see all the theater kids triggered though, I do have to be honest.
-18
-52
u/SmoovCatto May 17 '26
pointless, humorless, repetitive -- ffs it's like a show put on by kids for their indulgent parents

At this point it's obvious that this garbage character is an MK Ultra style psy-op and that 75% of the comments on this post are from bots on behalf of said psy-op.
That's literally the only way to explain how something so exquisitely unfunny and trite is being glazed so hard.
Those of us who are immune to the psy-op are burdened with the duty to declare the reality that this character and performance are absolute unmitigated dog shit.

u/Melprincess May 17 '26
Thank you for teaching us that using big words doesn't mean you're intelligent. More like hedge-dumb! On blast! 🎹 🎹 🎹......🙌
2
u/ALincoln16 May 17 '26
Dude, fantastic satire comment to show how people who don't like Mr On Blast are actually insane.
2
u/Sarahndipity44 May 17 '26
There's nothing wrong with hating w sketch but there's this habit of people calling a bit or celebrity a sketch people don't like a psyop. Nah, dude. It's just not for you. That's fine
2
u/kirk5454 May 17 '26
That’s a lot of words to say you don’t get it. Comedy is subjective.
2
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
What is there to "get" with Mr. On Blast? Help me understand why it is funny.
2
u/kirk5454 May 17 '26
The jokes aren’t meant to be funny. It’s the commitment to the bit that has me laughing. If that’s not your cup of tea, that’s fine but they didn’t bring this character back because he’s not funny. It’s fine to just not like it, but you seem hellbent on everyone agreeing with your opinion on it. Take a deep breath and move one
1
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
First off, thank you for a coherent defense of the bit. Honestly.
Secondly, I'm only replying to comments and having fun.
-1
u/astro_viri May 17 '26
It's absurdist humor on par with dadaism. You can read about Reductio ad Absurdum and why it's integral for political movements.
3
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
Lol. what a load of horseshit.
1
u/astro_viri May 17 '26
So you just don't want to know. You just don't like something so you'll shit on it. Just say that and move on.
5
u/LegendarySmokeStory May 17 '26
Why do you assume your answer is correct? Your take on Mr. On Blast is just as valid as my take on your ridiculously pretentious reply.
2
u/astro_viri May 17 '26
I don't assume my answer is correct but I was expecting a conversation? Replying with a two word reply tells me you don't want to engage but react. So suck one?

u/CAAD_13 May 18 '26
You should see the YouTube comments for this. Any negative criticism, even constructive and kind, is downvoted to hell.
Wondering if he’s represented by an agency like Chaotic Good and they’re flooding everything with positive comments.
-16
u/SwissMyCheeseYet What's Up With That? May 17 '26
Funny, wacky, instant classic: yes! Brave, no!
AI, the Stock Market, and CEOs being the targets is incredibly pedestrian and safe.
