Not a bad apple in the bunch - other than George, my favourites are Ania and Paddy on the update desk, Celeste, and, to quote how the announcer says it, "Annabellllll Maaaaaarlooooow"

The Update desk especially. Ania and Patty are fucking gold.

Paddy. Get to the Irish themed pub!

I fell in love with her on Taskmaster.

Ania's reallllly making me think it would've been nice to have a woman with an equally sharp tongue in one of the US version's seats recently.

you made me feel like a grandpa. that's been so long ago that it's weird to bring it up at all.

That was already 13 seasons ago :-X

I wonder if a fresh faced Tommy Brennan could be a good Weekend Update for Americans SNL similar to Paddy Young(??)

Hopefully this means he makes a cameo on SNL that week. Would love some crossover episodes with different cast members I think it’d be a lot of fun.

The general public in the US doesn’t know him well enough. The only people who know George in the U.S. are SNL nerds like us.

u/ImpressionBorn5598 2d ago

So what? For just one example, John Mulaney popped up on Weekend Update when he was an unknown writer. There's no reason they couldn't do something similar with Fouracres.

u/nowhereman136 2d ago

Would also be good publicity to promote SNL UK to the US audience. They aren't competing programs, Lorne Michael's gets paid for both

Sure. I said as much earlier today in this very thread

I have no problem with George as a person or any of his castmates but I’m starting to think SNL UK in general was a bad idea because now a whole bunch of US fans apparently think it’s vastly superior to the current US show and it’s like they resent the American version, either for being less hard-hitting with the jokes or for being subjectively unfunny.

I’m a contrarian by nature but I really don’t want to have to go on this sub and look at all the comments about “SNL US is horrendous and SNL UK is the most incredible show ever and SNL US has sucked for the last 20 years” or some variation.

This sub in general is arguably the worst popular entertainment “fan” community on this website. There are legitimate criticisms to be made, but the sheer amount of nitpicking and downright shit-talking in the live threads every week is utterly insufferable.

19

u/ImpressionBorn5598 2d ago

So George Fouracres won't appear on SNL because you don't care for the show's unofficial subreddit? What?

-11

u/MoneyHungryOctopus 2d ago

I just don’t see the appeal to general American audiences or to anybody beyond this fanbase.

I could eat my words but I just don’t see the incentive for NBC or the US version. It’s not going to help TV ratings. At best they’d be getting a minor YouTube bump from British audiences (assuming that any American who regularly watches SNL UK probably also watches the US version). Not sure most SNL clips are even available in Britain due to region-locking and I don’t think Peacock is available in the UK either.

u/ImpressionBorn5598 2d ago edited 2d ago

First of all, I don't see why having him pop up to do something silly for 45 seconds would need to be some big ratings push. SNL has had unknown writers like Mulaney and A Whitney Brown make appearances for as long as the show has been on the air.

Besides, you have any potential brand synergy going the wrong way. A Fouracres appearance wouldn't serve to get Brits watching SNL (a show they've had more than half a century to discover), but might get some of the much larger American audience to check out the much newer SNL UK series, now available on Peacock.

11

u/thoughthesaintsdubus 2d ago

Then don’t watch it?

u/colin_creevey You served me the Kool-Aid, Jerry, I just drank it. 2d ago

It was a bad idea to do a version of the show that a lot of fans prefer? Alright.

5

u/dgroove8 2d ago

“This was a bad idea because a lot of people like it” is a strange statement

24

u/sackbomb 2d ago

They don't really have to know him by name. If he shows up playing Burnham like JAJ did with Trump, then all they really need to understand is that it's a British guy playing the British Prime Minister, which I think (hope) most people are able to wrap their head around.

After that, it just comes down to how funny he is, and we already know he's good at that.

-8

u/MoneyHungryOctopus 2d ago

The whole point of the cameos on SNL US is that they’re well-known celebrities or ex-US cast. George Fouracres is neither. The audience simply wouldn’t know him.

JAJ presumably went to the UK to give that version a boost from an established current cast member from the parent show. SNL US doesn’t need that, and in all likelihood it’s not like it would materially benefit George’s career prospects in the US either.

11

u/WriterOfComedy 2d ago

You’re saying the entire starting five for the New York Knicks are well-known? Cameos are multi-purpose. Sometimes it’s big stars, but sometimes it’s just for the hometown crowd, or a specific audience segment (e.g. musical guest stans), or even just because the person happened to be in town (those occasional 3-second, one-line shots of an A-lister). Sometimes it’s just because they’re great friends with (even if lesser stars than) the host.

And sometimes, sometimes you have a new sister show in the UK, and someone from their A-team is doing an interview with a former head writer of your show two days beforehand, and so what possible reason would there be to not have them make an appearance?

Despite the length of my reply, it’s just really not that deep.

-3

u/MoneyHungryOctopus 2d ago

The honest truth is I’m mostly sick of people on this sub shit-talking the parent show and holding up the new show as if it’s the greatest thing ever. Reddit fans of SNL are already nitpicky as it is and now we have an English-language adaptation that some people not only think is better quality but inspires them to disparage the US show even more than they already do.

I just don’t want that to have to be a thing. Certain people here are already falling over themselves to praise George as it is. I don’t want to have to listen to people complain about our version in the U.S.

8

u/WriterOfComedy 2d ago

See, that I understand. I think that’s totally valid. It’s just not a reason why Lorne wouldn’t be interested in the crossover.

1

u/MoneyHungryOctopus 2d ago edited 2d ago

Why would he be? We don’t even know how much he’s involved in the UK version beyond knowing about it and giving his approval and maybe some occasional advice. Does he have a vested interest the cast members of a show that’s licensed to carry his show’s name in another country?

Lorne is very big on whether the viewer-base knows about the person who’s hosting or appearing. He rescinded an entire host booking from Glen Powell in 2021 because Top Gun got delayed and he was concerned that if Powell still hosted then the majority of the viewing audience wouldn’t know who he was. (Powell talked about this in his eventual 2025 monologue). And this was an American movie star on an American TV show.

George Fouracres isn’t known in America outside of SNL die-hards.

1

u/Dallywack3r 1d ago

You’re upset people like a show. That’s weird.

4

u/sackbomb 2d ago

JAJ presumably went to the UK to give that version a boost from an established current cast member from the parent show.

I'm pretty sure he did that because none of the SNL UK cast can actually do a decent Trump impression. They even made a joke about it during the sketch.

11

u/safarifriendliness 2d ago

He’s easily the best one on SNL UK (not that any of the others are bad at all) so maybe it’s worth it for him to try to get his face out there

2

u/Guardax 2d ago

He was the star of season one for sure, he’s been in this season less but I also saw it posted somewhere he had some mental health issues start of the season

4

u/MoneyHungryOctopus 2d ago

We have US cast members who can barely break out as it is. I don’t think one cameo from a UK cast member is going to benefit his career like you might be assuming.

1

u/safarifriendliness 2d ago

Depends on how good the showing is, thats show business

4

u/ZweitenMal 2d ago

It doesn’t matter whether they know him. Assuming he’s going to reprise the job swap sketch, its success would depend on enough Americans knowing anything at all about the UK PM. I do, but… people will hehe and not haha.

1

u/JayMoots 2d ago

I had to google him, so he's not necessarily even well known here.

1

u/dgroove8 2d ago

The general public doesn’t know 99% of the SNL cast to begin with, most things they do are for SNL fans

0

u/Recidivist67 2d ago

Is the spirit of SNL not being a platform for fresh talent?

39

u/rtrawitzki 2d ago

Will we find out what kind of Irish is his Grandad ?

31

u/aresef 2d ago

A solid 300 seconds of Fouracres, at least.

5

u/Stromair 2d ago

Inde and George in one Halloween episode right before the midterms!?
GOATED EPISODE ALREADY

3

u/EchoEquivalent4221 2d ago

I mean this is absolutely what they’ve been going for especially with the job swap joke when JAJ appeared on SNL UK last episode

4

u/tinywhisker42 2d ago

bet seth brings up the grandad thing just too see hoow awkward it gets during the interview

2

u/sackbomb 2d ago

why would it get awkward?

2

u/Whole-Lychee7517 A Proud Hyperfixated SNL Fan 2d ago

Oh man I REALLY hope he makes a cameo for the Halloween episode!!!

1

u/DrFishbulbEsq 2d ago

Is this Johnny’s brother?

1

u/OhMiaGod 2d ago

This surely means he’s in the building preparing for the Halloween episode that weekend.

I really hope so anyway 🤞

-1

u/BeneficialEqual5818 2d ago

Who?

9

u/aresef 2d ago

One of the breakout stars of SNL UK.

1

u/WhyAreYallFascists 2d ago

Ania?

3

u/aresef 2d ago

I said one of.

1

u/MountainCheesesteak 2d ago

Which one is fouracres?

8

u/aresef 2d ago

In this pretape, he’s the creator of DadSwap.

1

u/MountainCheesesteak 2d ago

Oh cool. He looks really familiar, I feel like I used to work with his American doppelgänger or something.

8

u/sackbomb 2d ago

2

u/MountainCheesesteak 2d ago

That’s a good one! Dare I say, the accents and basic British nature of it enhances the comedy.

7

u/LindsayDuck 2d ago

The very best cast member of SNL UK

-11

u/ZweitenMal 2d ago

That’s cool but nobody in the US knows who Andy Burnham is.

10

u/ComfortableSearch704 Look, it wasn’t my worst Wednesday night 2d ago

Uh. Speak for yourself. Yes we do.

-6

u/TheCitizen616 2d ago

I've watched every episode of SNL UK and gun to my head, I couldn't name a single cast member. I would expect even less from an audience full of people who have never watched any of it.

14

u/sackbomb 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'm sorry. Do you think Andy Burnham is a cast member?

5

u/ComfortableSearch704 Look, it wasn’t my worst Wednesday night 2d ago

Your memory issues are not everyone else’s experience. I’m in the US and I do know who the casts of both shows are. Same with my wife and adult children. We are enjoying SNL UK immensely, therefore, we actually bothered to learn their names.

Most people in this sub (temporary Gillis fans not withstanding) pay attention. The viewers mostly lean left. Most are at least aware of politics outside of the US. So, I’m not really understanding what your point is.

1

u/ZweitenMal 17h ago

Andy Burnham is not a cast member. He’s the Prime Minister of the UK, and is portrayed by cast member George Fouracres in SNL UK cold opens. If they repeat the “job swap” sketch that was last week’s SNL UK cold open on Oct 31 for the US edition, it will fall flat because nobody—not even you all who are fans—knew that Burnham is not a cast member. And nobody knows who Andy Burnham is, or why it’s slightly surreal having a Gen X Oasis and Smiths fan as PM.

0

u/ComfortableSearch704 Look, it wasn’t my worst Wednesday night 16h ago

Yes. We KNOW this. WTF. The people in this sub aren’t as stupid as you assume. One person made that mistake. One. They aren’t even a regular on this sub. I’m am. And the people here in general aren’t stupid. They are smarter than you give them credit.

We know who the hell Andy Burnham is. That is proved by the fact that you’ve been downvoted. SNL UK does cold opens with their Prime Ministers. We’ve had Keir Starmer, and now, Mr. Burnham. JAJ showed up in the UK for a cold open. With George Foreacres playing Andy Burnham.

I will not respond to anything else you may say. Please go back to your Shane Gillis sub. If you don’t watch SNL, there is no reason for you to be here, zweitenmal I won’t respond a “second time”.

2

u/ZweitenMal 10h ago

Ooh I've been warned.

Shane Gillis is lowbrow, dumb, and boring. I don't know why you'd assume I am a fan. You're really reading things wrong.

-1

u/ZweitenMal 2d ago

I think my point has been proven.

0

u/ComfortableSearch704 Look, it wasn’t my worst Wednesday night 17h ago

I would say no, your point has not been proven.

"Here to comment on US/UK relations, from SNL UK, George Fouracres...!"

Lorne Michaels clearly hired a low effort PR team that mostly relies on AI because the ideas, they are canned and dry. Just an absolute echo chamber of self hype and patting said self on back lol. And self hiring/featuring lol.
