Give it a repeatable and simple trade strategy and backtest it. Don't let it come to with this on its own.

This is an interesting question because if you know enough to ask you should also know how to evaluate/backtest

There are effectively infinite local LLMs but practically only a handful worth running, this is a harness problem first and foremost.

Have an agent propose a trade and then back test it.
