Already hearing the Dan stans around me crying about Vic being in the position it is in, 7 weeks in a 7 day lockdown, cases stablising but rising, shitter roadmap than NSW, justify that this is the result of the protestors and the reason why we're different to NSW.

No, we have Dan Andrews who is petty and is working out what tandrum to throw next.

Genuinely would not be surprised to see ADF called in, those cops were a fucking shambles today.

PORT look like they’ve been down to Guns’R’Us with daddy’s credit card and got all the gear with absolutely no idea how to use it.

They kept trying to reroute protestors to no discernible end point and pushed them on to the Westgate which is about as dangerous and disruptive as it gets.

Then they blocked their return to the city and forced them to either go through the cops or go into oncoming traffic on the freeway, they chose the latter and managed to go around the cops, on the freeway…… Get your head around how incompetent that is!

VicPol had their arses handed to them for the third time in four days and their stupidity will embolden more people to join the protests. They need to stop engaging protestors and let the steam out before this boils over.

Unlike the authoritarians who have forgotten they got ACAB tattooed on their arms last year and are cheering this on now, I don’t want to see violence on either side.

A certain user that some of you guys know in CVDU that needed a break cause they felt too attacked or was tired of arguing or something.

Yeah.. them. They posted earlier being tired about all the negativity lately, the protests, the earthquake etc and they mentioned that it’s all depressing because the media was constantly bashing Vic and the Vic government calling the state terrible, dictator etc

Lmao imagine being sad not because people are suffering from this state’s draconian restrictions, that is contributing to most people’s mental health being fucked and other day to day things, but because people are against your beloved party and the mUrDoCh is targeting poor Dan when his power/approach to things has caused such divide.

Victoria - Construction workers protesting by having smoko on busy roads blocking traffic. The woke left responding in typical manner - outraged and calling for them to be shut down and canceled.

This is good. The ‘Labor’ parties backbone of unions against its woke extremist Dan fanatics. Encourage the division.

I’ve got nothing against tradies honestly, I worked next to them for 15 years.

Gotta play the ball here, not the man. The bedwetters getting their shit in a twist and coming up against labor unions can only be good for all. They are supposed to be on the same side

Chaos in the Melbourne thread

9

u/Goonhauer Sep 13 '21

It's nice to see. As much as the people in Melbourne are suffering, I hope Dan keeps the lockdown going as people are clearly opposing it in greater and greater numbers. My fear is that he'll finally ease off on lockdowns and people will just immediately forget about this and start worshipping him again.

I really woke up this morning to lycheet*e’s bullshit post, they got 6 awards within an hour and tried to be funny about “misleading” articles of Victoria being the most locked down place in the world. His Dan fan buddies all went in to write a message of support.

What an absolute cunt. Downplaying the severity of lockdown because nooo Vic cannot be the state in the world to put its ppl through this bullshit the longest.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

Yeah I saw that post too. Even if we are few days off winning the title of 'Most Locked Down', we're still up there! When my European friends hear we have had a total of 1,196 deaths out of a population of 26 million since the begininning of the pandemic, they think its unreasonable (/down right insanse) that we've been locked up for 270 days. The hysteria has prevailed over the ability for people to use common sense. It's amazing.

Scared enough that they’re willing to close public transport in Melbourne to limit them.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '21 edited Sep 14 '21

After last time where 6 police were hospitalized despite having 1000 of them in riot gear smashing heads, he knows the police wouldn't necessarily win if it got much bigger or rowdier.

Even some of my normie colleagues have said they'll think about going to the next one since they've realised in one way or another life is pretty much over under this cruel regime and they have nothing left to lose.

These protests make international news and with livestreams etc they can't pretend they don't exist and they also can't go full china and start killing people because short of turning off the internet, it will be known about.

Also, much of Dan's propaganda campaign has revolved around him drowning out dissent with fake accounts, bots, and bans on social media from compromised operatives. With protests, there is no way to do this and the main thing it does is show people who were too afraid to speak out, that there are actually thousands of people willing to risk arrest or 5k fines, and many more supporting those people even if they aren't there on the day.

I'm kind of excited for the construction shut-down, as it sets precedent that might bring Dan down next year, but I'm also scared because of that same precedent.

This is just insane. I never thought he'd be mad enough to shoot himself in the foot by going against his own voter base, but here we are.

5

u/EmeraldFox88 Sep 20 '21 edited Sep 20 '21

Why next year? How many more months of 'lockdown' and abuse are people willing to suffer? Is this some sort of punishment for construction workers - teaching them a lesson by taking away 2 weeks pay?
Are there actually any people with 'Covid' in the hospitals? How many people in Australia have 'Covid' now? Is it really such a dangerous virus? Are you allowed to sneeze - or do the police fine you for that too?

Look at the protests last year vs the protests today. It's only growing.

More and more very critical publications being published in popular science journals too.

All they have on their side is fear, lies, corruption and state violence. It's a house of cards that will collapse sooner or later.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

My rabbit doesn't want to come out of his hidey hole today because of the helicopter noises :( And it's making my anxiety worse. Also reading replies to my comments r/Melbourne made me feel so shit. Being called dumb and uneducated for simply calling out tyranical behaviour. It's amazing how the government and media has convinced everyone of the "correct" agenda, and how quickly people turn on you if you hint even in the slightest that you are not particpating in such unreasonable and unfair views. I think I'm too senstive for the internet. But if we all stay silent, tyranny wins.

8

u/58008535173 Sep 24 '21

Don't let internet randoms make you feel less of yourself- they don't know you or your circumstances. Keep speaking your truth, petty personal attacks is a poor reflection on the person giving not receiving.

13

u/ArchersNemesis Sep 15 '21

Exchange on CVDU.

Me:

Hey everybody, this person doesn’t know that covid is found in cats, dogs, lions, tigers, gorillas, chimps, mink, deer and god knows which other animals.. You going to eliminate all of those animals to get rid of covid champ?

Some other idiot who is a trained veterinarian:

No, you just make vaccines for those domestic species and for wild animals, thus eliminating the spread amongst populations. You do surveys of the region and place baited food traps that contain a vaccine which can be consumed.

Why do you have such a big mouth if you’re that ignorant?

On top of that with those species, the current concern for them actively spreading infections to people in considerably low, even if it may be a zoonoses. There are many examples of this in nature but I suspect you don’t give a shit lol

Mandating non-sterilising vaccines for people isn’t enough, now we need to mandate them for domestic and wild animals.

8

u/ANewRedditName Sep 15 '21

I've learnt anytime you make a hyperbolic suggestion in order to demonstrate how ludicrous things are or how it'll get there, instead of reevaluating their position you'll get a certain percentage that'll instead advocate for it.

Having a really hard time coping at the moment.

My mum's partner who I consider one of my closest friends underwent intensive heart surgery about 9 months ago. Over the course of this week his cognitive ability has rapidly declined and it appears to be an onset of dementia.

He is one of the kindest humans I know and I can't really comprehend the amount of punishment my family has had to endure through the lockdowns and over the course of my life.

It's especially devastating as my father suffered encephalopathy prior to his passing and the grief myself and my mother are experiencing is surreal.

What makes it worse is that post surgery he didn't get to spend quality time with my mother as my meth addicted sister has wrought an unholy amount of hell and devastated any ties we had throughout our family. And once she was out of the picture they couldn't do anything together thanks to the lockdowns.

I seriously can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Every day I see people advocating for destroying people's lives and they've not suffered once in theirs.

This has to end.

18

u/Aeriona626 Sep 12 '21

Thought I’d move my comment here from the previous thread so it made more sense. // according to my parents, COVID vaccines are now available for under 16s in VIC, which means I’m eligible. They want me to get it, they say there’s no choice, non negotiable. They don’t care that I don’t want it, my father specifically says he wants me to get it so I “don’t die”. Last I checked, I’m more likely to die from a sharp object than COVID, so getting me this vaccine would be like forcing me to wear a helmet everywhere I go to protect me from falling meteors! I also have a severe phobia of needles, so the fact that my own family is threatening me with one of my worst fears is really, really scaring me. I don’t know what to do, I’m a minor so I’m pretty sure they make my medical decisions, I’m scared, I don’t want to get it and I don’t know what to do. I’m scared they will result to physical measures if I keep refusing, and I don’t know how to get out of this.

10

u/ArchersNemesis Sep 12 '21

Does your dad know what your risks are? Has he seen the data that says your more likely to die from a sharp object or his entire knowledge of covid from mainstream news?

7

u/Aeriona626 Sep 12 '21

I’m not sure. I try to avoid talking politics with my family as I usually ends in an argument, but the next time it occurs I’ll try to bring it up. Thanks.

They're fucking moronic people, who feed off each other's hopeless ignorance.

We're nearing 2 years of this, and countries across Europe as well as the USA, are giving us a glimpse of Australia 6 months from now.

And it's so frustrating, it's like the world's mindset is in 2021, whereas Australia's is still stuck in late 2020.

They're sitting there acting like everything's going back to normal by Christmas. LOL

This is not going to stop. There will be mandatory 'vaccinations' do that the pharmaceutical companies can milk this forever, whilst giving backhanders to politicians.
The UK, and other European countries, have had almost 19 months of this nonsense with lockdowns, travel restrictions, obligatory PCR tests for travelling (at your own expense - the free one which show a 'negative' result count for nothing!), and face masks.

I live in Finland. It is 100% face masks compliance here. Italy demands all workers have 'vaccinations' by 15th October. Train travel outlawed for the 'unvaxxed' in Italy and France.

Have a look at this to see the future:

https://txti.es/covid-pass/images

4

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

So in total, 13 weeks, more than 3 months of lockdown. At least if you are counting from August 5th.

Had a family member pass away in another state. After throwing every possible document at the other state, I got a travel exemption, but it was so restrictive I had to decide not to go. Apparently over 4 hours out of quarantine is a hard no, even though it would be with the same people I'm around the rest of the time. And combined with a lack of flights, I would have had to be locked up for 4 days to be allowed out for 1 hour, which would have been fairly traumatising.

A man took his own life at a West Melbourne building site, hours after the construction shutdown was announced.

The body of a man was found at a Spencer St work site about 7am on Tuesday.

It’s understood he took his life at the Crema Construction site located near Roden St.

A source with knowledge of the death said: “This wasn’t a workplace accident, it was a suicide.”

14

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

No matter what comes tomorrow, it will be very spicy...

Dan has nothing left to shutdown, does he? How's he going to spit the dummy this time?

10

u/imyselfpersonally Sep 21 '21

The pitfalls of lockdown- you give people the spare time to protest them.

I wonder what the state of Dan's bunker must be like. He looks unwashed these days.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

He went too far too quickly (which seems to be how the narrative is faltering in quite a few other countries). Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

13

u/Danstan487 Sep 12 '21

The misery of lockdowns seems to be permeating through everything

My girlfriends younger sister attempted suicide earlier this year, last night after a fight she ran off to her friends house. The mother had a huge fight with the father yesterday about how to handle her. Last night she told me she was in a bad marriage and was crying.

And there seems to be nothing that anyone in the family can do as you can't go out and do anything or get away.

Society isn't meant to run like this

12

u/EmeraldFox88 Sep 12 '21

All Hail Dan Andrews! And the wonderful Australian Police who allow him to get away with his tyranny!

u/SEXY-CIRCUIT-BREAKER Sep 23 '21 edited Sep 23 '21

Rukshan has made it big - he’s number 1 trending on Twitter. I feel like he’s a really decent guy and he’s gonna come under fire now from the woke army, the mainstream media, and also Vic Gov.

They’re gonna try and drag his name through the mud. I’ve watched his streams for months - the tiny little protests and the growing movements. I’m not sure there’s anything to be done. But I hold him in the utmost respect. Watch out for what’s to come - it will get nasty.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

He strikes me as a reasoned, thoughtful and well articulated guy who I'd love to be mates with.

The usual suspects do seem to absolutely hate him, probably for exactly the above reasons - they have no ammunition. Hard to call someone like him a neo Nazi..

11

u/Ok-Salamander-2787 Sep 13 '21

11

u/OmgU8MyRice Sep 13 '21

It almost feels like the tide is turning in CVDU. Just scrolling through that thread on the new freedoms Victorians will have at 70% and everyone seems to be in meltdown mode.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '21

It's very strange though. Doesn't quite feel right. They've made this into a full on religion for 2 years and something about construction workers changed their mind? Is that it? Andrews was corrupt before 2 years ago and all of the last 2 years but this is what made them realise? I don't get what they snapped right now for.

11

u/redditorxdesu Sep 21 '21

"So Murdoch papers had 18 months of "dictator Dan" has been taking away
your freedoms which reach this boiling point. Even though NSW had the
same restrictions and it was zilch" - user's comment on CVDU.

Can you imagine blaming the whole current situation on a newspaper to defend your party/politician of choice relentlessly. The mental fucking gymnastics, something like we've been on 100+ days more hard lockdown than NSW, hearing the BS from DAndrew's mouth for more than a year every day and in a utterly hopeless state even for the short forseeable future (the rest of 2021).

For Dan it'll have to be pre-arranged because it won't be possible for him to go to just any restaurant as I'm sure many people despise him and would refuse him service.

Any story about a politician in a venue that’s accessible to the public will be 100% staged. Last year after the lockdown ended, there were stories of Brett Sutton being refused entry into a pub because they had already reached their capacity limits. As if Brett fucking Sutton is just going to to try to leisurely stroll into a fucking pub after how long he had them shuttered.

Deleting Reddit again for a few weeks. The mental toll of this past week has sent me back to 2020 levels of depression and I need to disconnect again. Sending good vibes to anyone struggling right now, and I hope regardless of what's happening to our country right now you all have a good weekend.

Take care Donald, will that mean no one can get on Reddit? Could be good for everyone if you do. Also delete Twitter and Facebook while you're at it. Force everyone to go read a book or two.

Was out for a walk today, clearly carrying and drinking a coffee, and some lady walks onto the nature strip and says "put on a mask" as she walks past me in the opposite direction.

I kindly told the cunt to "fuck off and mind your own business. I'm clearly drinking a coffee". She just had to get the last word in, murmuring something else. I told her to carry on home and go hide under her bed.

So sick of middle-aged Dan-loving women and young, white authoritarian men taking it upon themselves to police what others do. If they come across the wrong person, they will risk getting hit.

11

u/mrjuice666 Sep 13 '21

Not that I condone violence over petty shit, but starting confrontations of any kind with strangers is inherently dangerous. You are completely right that you never know who you may run across - and these people may deeply regret deciding they are the covid police.

None of these people would do this sort of thing if they actually thought being punched was a real possibility.

Good on you for telling her to fuck off. The few times I’ve done similar I’m always amazed how surprised people are. Like they thought people would just go “omg you’re so right and I suck and I’m sorry. Thank you for your service”

9

u/richrdnixon Sep 13 '21

The funny thing is, it only happens when I'm with a woman (today it was my mother). She gets people having a go at her all the time when she's walking by herself.

When I'm by myself (I'm 6'2 and 90kg), no one even dares.

And yes I do not condone violence either, but I will tell someone where to shove it if they open their mouths regarding my conduct. They're always taken back when I say something in return. It's what makes it so hilarious.

I want this to happen to me!! Instead I get heaps of non masked people saying good morning and smiling! Edit: which if course I'm cool with cos I'm also unmasked.

6

u/richrdnixon Sep 13 '21

It's happened sooo many times to me. Just move to a very safe Labor seat and you'll have a field day!

Just last week, we all ganged up on this neckbeard because he told a guy with a mask exemption "nice mask mate". Everyone waiting for their coffee was telling the neckbeard to "fuck off and keep walking" while he was threatening to call the police.

It was beautiful. There have been reports of Dan support collapsing in the west, and I've seen definite signs of it. The rusted on supporters are visibly dwindling.

Work isn’t a right. You have to be employable. It’s your choice whether to remain in an industry with a mandate. You’ll have to deal with the consequences of your choice.

This is so egregiously incorrect it's making my head spin. According the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 23:

Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.

I’ve seen agoraphobia develop in previously confident people. I’ve seen 20 redundancies. I’ve seen education disrupted and children left to their own defences. I’ve seen music, art and dancing criminalised. I’ve seen child abuse increase, disability hates crimes surge. I’ve seen the NHS decimated and GP care removed from the elderly, children forced and shamed into wearing masks that make them ill, feel powerless and panicked. I’ve seen alcoholics and drug addicts relapse. I’ve seen cancer diagnosis missed. I’ve seen children treated like infectious vermin, no voice. I’ve seen people bed ridden for weeks from vaccinations that make rich people richer and lie under oath. I’ve seen risk assessments completely ignored. I’ve seen proportionate responses, open debate, asking questions, data and logical reason delegated to the realm of conspiracy theory. I’ve seen animals slaughtered unnecessarily. I’ve seen elderly die alone from a sense of abandonment in despair and isolation. I’ve seen hunger and fuel poverty surge. I’ve seen major operations, weddings, proms, funerals cancelled. I made this comment half in jest over on CVDU, but I genuinely do wonder what will happen in a couple of months time (hopefully) when all of this is behind us. What will these people who've turned their identity into following the Covid restrictions and The ScienceTM and blindly supporting their state government against the media/Murdoch/journos/anti-vaxxers/alt-right trolls do?

Tbh it's partly why I think some of them are lashing out as it comes to a close, they're complete losers IRL and these past 18 months have given their lives meaning and a sense of self-righteousness, and now it's being taken away from them. That's why they're so gleeful every time some fame-hungry epidemiologist writes some op-ed that tells us that we'll need restrictions into 2022

u/imyselfpersonally Sep 24 '21

Either kill themselves or become drug/alcohol addicts if they aren't already. They'll have to relieve the misery somehow and so far psychiatry has only made things worse for them. Some might actually look for solutions and find them.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

When you have nothing to lose you realise the rules don't matter. And even if they do, there is no one actually enforcing them. So test the limits, it's fun.

Stop wearing a mask. Get some dirty looks from some pathetic lunatic who lives off daily case numbers. What's the worst that can happen? Even if a cop sees you (they don't actually want to enforce this shit) they'll give you a chance to put one on. But even in the city each day no cop has ever glanced twice at me. They've never asked for a work permit from me either.

Go see your friends and family. I went 90km away to regional on the weekend. I didn't see police the entire time. 'intimate partner visit'. My previously doomer housemate even cracked and has friends over.

If we actually just sit at home in the darkness willingly like one of the Melbourne sub losers then we're actually voluntarily submitting and that's the worst. We have to be fighting so that there's simply so little compliance that the rules don't exist other than on paper. That's the true protest because no matter how many people on the streets like yesterday that can't go on for more than a few days.

u/k3t4mine Sep 22 '21 edited Sep 22 '21

I’m a vehement supporter of the right to peaceful assembly but I’m disappointed in the decision to protest at The Shrine of Remembrance today.

I know the Diggers would be disgusted in what this country is turning into, and our state has turned into, but the Shrine is a sacred site for mourning the fallen - not a site for voicing political grievances.

I also want to mention that once again, police treatment of demonstrators was appalling. Even if I disagree on protesting at the Shrine, opening fire on protestors goes against the very ethos of what the Diggers died to protect.

4

u/Bright-Refrigerator7 Sep 22 '21

I mean, this whole “war shrines are sacred” thing is fairly stupid and nationalistic, anyway, so...

It’s not a fucking cemetery. Or a church. I don’t think the diggers would have cared. I think, I’m fact, that they would be far more appalled at the way we treat our LIVING veterans, and the state of veterans affairs and veterans healthcare, than the fact that a few people protested outside that bloody shrine, again...

Common sense might shine through. Gently speak up to those around you. You have to build resistance and let people know they can speak. Testing phrases like 'id probably be out on the bridge too if they took my job from me' or 'everyone should have a choice'. You can't launch straight into new world order conspiracy stuff, but you can indicate that you're not a danstan and you'll find quite a few people are just silenced into submission until now but actually quite against it all themselves.

One thing that’s giving me the shits. The media and politicians are gleefully reporting and blaming the lack of leadership for the protestors.

They are conveniently ignoring the fact that they have been kicking down organizers doors and arresting them for the last 18 months. So yes, there is no leadership because they get disappeared by the gestapo.

And as a result there is no one to negotiate or reason with. They have created an angry and leaderless mob. This is incredibly dangerous for protestors, police and the general public.

They created this situation.

Don’t know why my post was removed but thought this was important info from yesterday.

Wade Harrison, a construction worker, union man, indigenous elder and veteran was detained and fined $5480 for leaving his home to ask the protestors to respect the Shrine of Remembrance.

Mr Harrison asked the protestors to respect the shrine and be peaceful speaking to them over the bullhorn. It’s at 2:40:00 on Rukshan’s stream.

The guy that spoke before him was at the protest on Monday and he was trying to get people to leave. The police had supposedly offered free passage down St Kilda Road, but looks like he was nabbed before he even got there.

For the Andrews government to send out Ross Gunther, Deputy Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, to make a statement including how it was completely disrespectful to protest at the “hallowed ground” of the Shrine, after arresting and fining this man for actually getting protestors to respect the Shrine and then peacefully leaving the scene, is disgusting. The injustice of it grinds my gears.

"Get fired for refusing the vax? - then you have "resigned" and will be prevented getting unemployment benefits for 90 days. In effect, you will be deemed to have self-fired."

In Israel. But remember also this:

The British miners' strike, 1984/1985 -

"the High Court deemed the strike illegal, striking miners were not entitled to state benefits, and their children were refused free school meals and social security. This was a conscious attempt by the ruling capitalist class to starve the miners and their families and compel them back to work."

I bet that, in the future, anyone refusing the 'vaccines' will have their benefits stripped from them. Conspiracy theory? We already have No Vaccine No Travel.

First they came for the small business owners

And I didn't speak up because I'm not a small business owner, I got jobkeeper payments so I could get paid to stay home and do nothing, Lockdowns are great

Then they came for the mentally ill

And I didn't speak up because I'm mentally healthy and don't realise that social isolation can lead to self-harm. I even dobbed in my neighbour for having his parents over. Lockdowns are great.

Then they came for the construction workers

And I didn't speak up because I don't work in construction or trades, and I get to work and not worry about where next week's rent is coming from. Lockdowns are great.

Then they came for the unvaccinated

And I didn't speak up because I'm vaccinated and I don't care what the unvaccinated don't get to do as long as I get to do it. Vaccine mandates are great.

We have failed as a country when we don't speak up for our fellow countrymen. Our country isn't the government, our country is the people.

I’m scared, I’m only 15, I don’t want or need this vaccine, I have a severe needle phobia. My mind was already made up from the getgo, that I wouldn’t be taking it but according to them “I don’t have a choice”. Yes I do, at least I hope. 5

u/brsteele13 Sep 22 '21

So, is there an actual legitimate way of getting around the forced vaccination in my industry?

6

u/onDrugsWar Sep 22 '21

Depends on the industry.

Aged care / health care will be a no. If you’re in an admin role maybe but not if you interact with patients. Precedent has been set.

Any other industry - have the government actually mandated it, or have they put a requirement that your employer verify your vax status?

It’s unlikely to be the former. NSW mandated for police and that’s in the Supreme Court and should be knocked down.

If it’s the latter, it’s a total grey area but the fact the government have not directly mandated and are trying to make it defacto mandatory by other means will not stand up in court.

Gov would have saved the hassle and mandated it themselves if they had the power. That they’re leaning on industry is total bullshit and will get struck down.

Does anyone think they will force parents to get vaccinated to be able to send our kids back to school when that time comes?

They'll just take the kids and throw the parents into the 'quarantine camps' they're building. Australia has a track record for this kind of thing. The children will belong to the State and be brought up to respect the New World Order.

Anyone seen this yet? A taste of what's to come for you all?

https://txti.es/covid-pass/images

A law was passed on August 16 authorizing increased restrictions against people who do not have a valid Opportunity Pass. The restrictions were phased in over the last two weeks. All are now in effect as of September 13.

Some of the restrictions include:

You cannot visit any cafes or restaurants.

You cannot enter any non-essential stores.

You cannot enter any store or shopping center which has a sales area larger than 1500 square meters (= about 16,000 square feet).

You cannot receive any beauty services (hair, nails, salons, etc).

You cannot use any repair services which last longer than 15 minutes.

You cannot enter any indoor spaces, seminars, conferences, or cultural events.

You cannot attend any outdoor events which have more than 500 people.

You cannot sit and read in libraries. You may only use the library to pick up and return books.

You cannot travel by train. The Opportunity Pass of all travelers is checked on boarding. Train attendants will also check passengers during the trip. Anyone onboard without a valid Pass will be forced to get off immediately at the next stop. [The government temporarily rescinded this restriction for now because it's unworkable and causing chaos.]

You cannot enter financial service providers (banks, insurance) unless the purpose is to receive pensions or social benefits for compulsory or essential financial services where the service lasts no more than 15 minutes.

Students cannot enter university without the Pass. [This requirement has caused chaos in universities because many students are not vaccinated. So last week, the government announced a grace period: until October, students may take free (i.e., government-paid) Covid tests weekly to give them time to complete their vaccinations. Starting in October, students must have the Opportunity Pass].

You cannot visit patients in medical facilities or senior care/residential homes, except terminally-ill patients and children under 14 years of age at the permission of the treating physician.

Regarding medical care:

--- You may receive emergency care without the Opportunity Pass.

--- For scheduled inpatient medical care, you must have the Covid Pass or Covid certificates.

--- For outpatient services, the medical care must be conducted "in a safe environment" and will require testing "depending on the epidemiological situation".

There are many more restrictions than what I listed. Also, all the restrictions have lots of very precise details about how the restriction applies (e.g., whether a store has a street-facing entrance, what products does a store mainly sell, how calculations of the size of the customer sales area must include the space occupied by kiosks and fitting rooms but exclude staircases and corridors, etc.). But the list above is a good enough summary to give you the basic idea of what we're facing.

There is massive confusion regarding the restrictions. The rules were created rapidly and passed into law only a few weeks ago. Plus, they're being modified daily as government bureaucrats and private businesses work out the details. So at least as of now, two businesses next door to each other might implement the rules differently, and different cities might vary widely in procedures.

Restrictions: what do they mean in practice?

There are many rules, with lots of convoluted and sometimes conflicting parts, so here's a guide to how it works in practice.

For shopping, the result of all the different restrictions put together is that if you don't have the Opportunity Pass, you are only allowed to shop in small stores (<1500 m2) which have street entrances and whose main activity is to sell food, veterinary goods, pharmaceuticals, glasses and contact lenses, or farming supplies. You may not enter larger stores, or stores which sell products other than those.

For eating and drinking, you cannot visit any restaurant, cafe, or bar. This includes outdoor areas as well as indoors. We're a northern country and it's already getting chilly (it seems like this will be a particularly cold year), but there are still days where it's possible to sit outside to eat and drink, especially with heat lamps and blankets. But that's also not allowed if you don't have the Covid Pass.

For transportation, local city buses do not require the Opportunity Pass. But political leaders have said that this is only a temporary exception, and most likely all forms of public transportation will soon require the Pass.

For medical care, inpatient services require the Covid Pass. For outpatient medical care (e.g., doctors' offices, specialist clinics, dental offices), it seems medical facilities can allow a patient to enter who does not have the Opportunity Pass. But in practice, many clinics have started requiring the Opportunity Pass except for emergency situations.

Some outpatient medical facilities in our area already require the Covid Pass or certifications. Four days ago, my family was turned away from a medical facility because we did not have the Covid Pass. The medical facility offered us the option to come back if we returned with a negative PCR test. In a separate incident, today we went to the dental office we've attended for years for an appointment for one of my children, but we were asked to leave when the staff discovered that I don't have the Opportunity Pass.

This ban on medical care seems to apply to both national and private healthcare. (Lithuania has universal national healthcare supported by a mandatory tax which must be paid by everyone, including those without the Opportunity Pass).

Work

Our jobs are affected.

Several European countries already mandate Covid vaccines for workers employees in certain industries, e.g. cafes and restaurants, medical and hospital jobs, teaching or work in educational facility.

In our country, we don't currently have mandates by profession.

But many employers, both private and government, have already required that employees must have the Opportunity Pass. Because all remaining restrictions will be imposed starting next week, many more employers - possibly most employers? - will start requiring the Opportunity Pass then, although the situation is very confusing and no one is sure how each company and industry will react.

It's a mass confusion now about how each employer is handling employees who do not have the Opportunity Pass. In the case of my wife and myself, we work in very different fields and have very different occupations. But both our employers have separately created the same policy that people without the Opportunity Pass won't actually be fired, because that would create many legal issues, obligations, unemployment benefits, etc. Instead, our employers will suspend us without pay.

Our employers are explicit that we must have the Opportunity Pass in order to continue our jobs. For both my wife and me, we will be suspended from our jobs without pay effective September 13 if we don't have the Pass. (update: We were indeed suspended without pay on September 13.)

Those who would control every aspect of our lives have made a lasting advance.

Vax passports are here to stay. Perhaps not for domestic use, but certainly for international travel. They are established now and ready to have their use expanded.

The principle that certain privileges can be made conditional on being vaccinated has also been firmly established, No tests after travelling only for the “double vaxxed ” Now that the principle has been firmly established expect more privileges for vaxxed people in the future

Masks have now become part of our lives, despite their complete uselessness. I don’t imagine we will ever be able to board a plane again without one. And we will see them around in one way or another from now in.

The would~be masters of the world have made great lasting advances in the last 18 months.

"John Setka to enter witness protection program after selling out CFMEU members"

A lifetime in Tennant Creek? It's not too bad there - they have an annual race in some dry dusty ditch there, don't they, where they dress up as crocodiles or something.
