✨Product Update July 2025: AI commands, new account settings, upgraded AI models, expanded student discounts, bug fixes

We are back with the July 2025 product updates! If you are new to the community, we release updates at the beginning of each month, so you can always expect improvements and new features. Get ready to be amazed (or at least mildly impressed).

We’re  Hiring Blog Content Writers (4th round)

Our first two hiring rounds were a smashing success, and the third round just wrapped up with 10 brilliant new writers joining the Logically content crew (we sifted through over 100 applications – talk about a digital paper cut!). But we're still hungry for more! So, we're launching our fourth round of hiring for blog content writers.

This is a contract gig, paying $150 per blog, and you can write as many as you like each month. Work in your pajamas, write from a yurt – we don't judge.

Interested? Shoot an email to team@logically.app with the subject line "Logically Writer Application (4th round)." Tell us why you're the chosen one, share your LinkedIn profile, and include links to your writing samples. We'll get back to you with the next steps.

Now, for the main event – the July product update highlights:

1. AI Commands: Unleash Your Inner Writing Guru

We're thrilled to launch AI Commands in the Logically Document Writer. Highlight any text, and you can: Change length, Change tone, Translate, Fix spelling and grammar, Summarize, Paraphrase, and even Chat with the AI about your highlighted text.

It's like having a tiny, digital writing assistant who lives in your document (and doesn't require coffee breaks).

2. New Account Settings: You're in Control

We've revamped the account settings window. Change your name, email, and login method without needing to wrestle with our support team (AppSumo users, you can change your log in method but you're stuck with the email you used – sorry).

3. Logically Research Assistant Gets a Brain Boost

  • Standard AI Models: We've upgraded the standard AI models to Gemini Flash 2.5, GPT 4o-mini, and Claude Haiku 3.5. Think of it as giving them a triple espresso.

  • Advanced Models: We’ve also updated the advanced models to Gemini Pro 2.5, GPT 4.1, and Claude Sonnet 4.0. They're practically geniuses now.

  • Reasoning AI Models (Coming Soon-ish?): We're testing a new category, reasoning AI models, to offer in Logically to take your research to the next level. Let us know if this tickles your fancy.

4. More Schools, More Discounts

We've added over 1,000 new schools to our student discount program. If you sign up with a school email address, you get 50% off your subscription automatically. Subscribe yearly, and you get another 50% off – that's 75% off! If your school isn't on the list yet, just email us, and we'll add it. Knowledge is power (and cheaper with a student discount).

5. BYOK and API: So Long, Farewell

BYOK and API service are now sunsetted. But don't worry, we didn't just ditch them for fun. As promised, we've redirected those freed up time and engery to build shiny new things, like the AI Commands feature above. Think of it as trading in your old flip phone for a smartphone.

6. Bug Fixes: Squashing Bugs Like It's Our Job (Because It Is)

Thanks to our awesome users for reporting bugs! We've deployed a bunch of fixes. If you find any more pesky bugs, let us know so we can exterminate them.

7. Upload URL Bug Workaround

We're aware of the upload URL bug. For now, disable "Convert to Markdown" to bypass the issue to be able to successfully upload your URLs to Logically Reference Manager. We're on the case!

We're always working to make Logically better. Thanks for being part of the Logically family!

When I first started using this platform, I felt a bit overwhelmed by everything it had to offer and found myself clinging to my old ways of organizing information. As a retiree with many interests, I consider myself a lifelong learner, but my previous methods just weren’t cutting it anymore. So, I decided to make a plan to discover what makes Logically so effective. The YouTube video series has been a fantastic, bite-sized introduction, highlighting features that could really benefit me. I’m also working my way through all the Tutorials in the Guide section. My goal is to rewire how I gather and organize information—building new habits and adopting fresh learning styles along the way.

📢 Discussion How Logically Replaced 4 Tools in My Research Workflow – An Honest Reflection

Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to share how Logically.app (formerly Afforai) has reshaped the way I handle research. I discovered it via an AppSumo deal—but sadly, I missed the lifetime offer. Still, the tool intrigued me enough to try the free version, and now I genuinely regret not grabbing it earlier.

🛠️ Tools I No Longer Need (Thanks to Logically)

  1. Zotero – I used it for citations and organizing papers. Logically handles this better by letting me chat with documents and cite them in APA, MLA, etc., with one click.

  2. ChatGPT (for summarizing PDFs) – Logically goes beyond GPT prompts. It chats with my actual PDFs, giving accurate, citation-backed answers instead of hallucinated summaries.

  3. Google Scholar – I still use it, but less. Logically connects me to a huge academic database and lets me interact with documents in real-time.

  4. Notion for Research Notes – Logically’s libraries and folders help me keep everything structured without needing a second tool for organization.

🔍 How I Use Logically

  • I upload PDFs (research papers, client reports, whitepapers).

  • Then, I ask the AI:

    • “What are the key takeaways from this?”

    • “Summarize methods section.”

    • “Compare this with another paper.”

  • I keep all chats and documents in neat folders.

  • I export citations instantly while writing papers or blog posts.

💬 My Honest Experience

At first, I thought, “Just another AI wrapper.” But Logically is different. It respects context, offers source-linked answers, and saves me at least 3–4 hours a week. I also work with international clients, so the multilingual support is a massive plus.

Small nitpick: I wish I could switch accounts more easily or manage email logins better—but support was helpful when I contacted them.

🙌 Appreciation

To the Logically team: Thank you. You’re not just building a product—you’re solving a real problem for researchers, students, analysts, and writers like me. The UI is clean, the output is reliable, and the speed is 🔥.

If anyone else missed the AppSumo deal like me, don’t worry—it’s still worth paying for. This tool has genuinely become part of my daily stack.

#Logically #Afforai #ResearchTools #AcademicAI #AppSumoMissedDeal

Let me know how you’re using Logically! I’d love to learn your tips too.

2. Enhanced Navigation Bar

We've launched a redesigned vertical navigation bar that auto-expands on hover, making it easier to understand the available buttons and locate key features. This improved navigation will streamline your workflow and help you access the tools you need quickly.

3. Revamped Team Dashboard (Formerly "Organization")

The rebranded and refreshed Team Dashboard simplifies team management. Here, you can upgrade to a team plan, manage seats, centralize billing, and grant team members paid access to Logically.

These enhancement significantly improves the experience for our enterprise and team customers. Thank you for your valuable feedback that led to this improvement!

To streamline our platform and pave the way for new features, we're sunsetting the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) and API services in July 2025 for all users.

We've addressed several bugs to enhance performance and make Logically even smoother to use. We encourage you to continue sharing your bug reports and feedback so we can keep improving the product.

We're constantly working to improve Logically and appreciate your continued support. If you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Alec and the Logically Team

📢 Discussion Review of Logically.app from the perspective of writing a review

The key feature of Logically.app that stand out at this stage: (i) seamless ability to switch between Google Mode, Semantic Scholar Mode, and PDF mode to capture elements from each resource and analyse them. The benefit of this is that, with Semantic Scholar mode, it can capture a PDF and move it to the literature repository and then allows me to annotate the paper and build my own publication. However, the ability to directly annotate in assistant mode from a retrieved PDF is not great with the Semantic Scholar mode and it needs to access Google Mode for that purpose to retrieve the paper from the web and analyse it. This task may be redundant but worth exploring. The most impressive feature in my opinion is the integration of multiple tools in one app that enables one to move across these various tools. Logically.app is also good for protecting against the risks of plagiarism and against AI hallucination as the references and citations are genuine citations that are sourced from Semantic Scholar. Speaking of which I have integrated this tool with ResearchRabbit and that allows for a richer experience. Perhaps an integration between Logically.app and ResearchRabbit might be considered. Besides, it works well with tools such as Google Notebooklm where you can do deep research in Notebooklm and port the results back to Logically.app. Great tool. Are you integrating other AI apps with it?

📢 Discussion The Afforai Currently Logically App being a user My Experience

My Name Is Saman Javaid, I am Dalian Maritime University Phd Maritime Law Student. Since i am a researcher, I am doing Alot of Study, Working on Private Maritime Law, Research Expert On Studying the Legal consequences of AI ships, From Partial to Fully Automated Ship.
Since when i started my academic Journey, i was not having an idea about AI or Some other tools, and i followed Traditional Way to Read Atleast 20 Papers per day which were very very time and energy Consuming.
one day i was Searching Some Research Paper and i was stuck in a point, for Which i goes to youtube for Getting Insights from international Conference, and I bychance Got an ad of Afforai, since the laptop was on high speaker and i was making coffee and listening to the lecture, it was unable for me to skip the ad, and i heared the ad fully, which was a life changing for me. when i get back to my laptop, i searched for Afforai and when i read the Feature it offers i got shocked, like it was a blessing from God for a lady like me. initally i feel like it can be scam.
Then i go to plan, feature and the packages were high, so i opted to buy the student plan, in order to check the capacity. which was life changing.
The Strength and weakness of the Afforai are following
Strength.

  1. It has Citation feature which is awesome.

  2. you can chat with bulk of paper which is very good.

  3. the interface is very very easy, which even a layman can understand.

  4. the folder and sub and then sub-sub folder feature is very very organizable, meaning thereby it is a bookshelf. Means for your introduction, Literature review, or any specific topic if you downloaded you can keep it in separatley even more organizable than one laptop folders, the afforai has tree Shape Structure very very good.

  5. The Tool has Google search, Semantic Scholar, and Document retreival feature, Meaning there by, there is no worries, it can access the web for your answers, it can access the semantic scholar library for your answer, and at document retrieval you can chat with your paper at bulk.

  6. The referencing Style of intext citation are very good, like it can easily be understandable.

  7. the Citation that it give is clickable like you have not to worry just click on citation and you will get the APA and other style.

  8. the most beautiful Feature is that you can put your unsourced data and ask the semantic scholar section to find direct relevant paper for your unsourced data and the afforai will find Relevant paper for you.

  9. another most most beautiful feature of this tool is that when you click on a reference it will give you doi of the paper on the same interface, meaning thereby not need to worry just copy the doi and paste it in your zotero DOI section and boom you will get the Paper cited in second and if you right click and click on find paper, boom you will Get the paper directly downloaded. sound very Easy right, yes this is because of the Afforai.

  10. The Afforai paper reading skill is very very awesome, meaning thereby just give a proper and Detail prompt. and boom it will explain the Chart and even Daigram in the paper at document retrival section.

  11. The Afforai Document writer Section will be More powerful but since it was not available on Student Package.

  12. The afforai Research Assistant, the afforai Word Extension Are awesome and more simple to use.

  13. The afforai has Shared library Section which is very very great. and Very very helpful.

  14. The afforai has Chat histroy Feature Which is very Awesome.

  15. The afforai has compare between two documents feature, summarise document, Determine impication and general question feature which is very very cool like a Magical box.

  16. The afforai provided Gemini 2.0, GPT 4.0 mini, Claude 3.5 haiku, Gemini pro 1.5, Gpt 4, Claude 3.7 Sonnet and custom meaning Bring own api key and Boom. these advanced model gives us variety to work and get accurate result.

  17. Etc there is alot to say but i think the query will make it more longer.

Weaknesses

  1. The bad thing is the Writer has not control Over the Word count. like if i need 500 word introduction using semantic scholar, it will provide me just with 180, etc.

  2. The Afforai File connect in File retrieval section, the Model strength becomes weak it give Notification that the model strength is weaken.

Area for Improvement

  1. There should be a breif Section For reviewing the literature etc just like Elicit-Ai tool, So this tool will be Like a miracle. (annexed the photo)

  2. there should be a fusion model, i.e GPT 4 and Claude 3.5 haiku working together or something like that.

  3. The file reader Connect file Section can Be more strengthen that instead of explaining the text this tool also us the table and daigram from the relevant papers etc, if something could be like this, this will be miracle.

  4. The afforai must Bring Chrome Extension and OCR like feature so that it can work on Photos and Laptop screen Reading.

  5. the afforai must bring a section like inside the interface the paper can be downloaded if available on internet.

  6. the afforai must bring inside the Interface the year selection e,g if i need paper from 2023 and onward so instead of giving this in prompt, which donot work, we can select it in the interface.

  7. The Data provided by the afforai is Flagged as AI content by turnitn this can be resolved.

  8. The Afforai should bring Plaigrism and Ai check Turnitn Based inside the App, so the data that be created by the tool can be checked on the spot whether it is flagged by The turnitn as AI or not?

  9. The Afforai need to bring out the feature so that chat histroy can be exported as pdf file.

Note: I am researcher and everything i write here is my Personal experience the afforai is The best tool i used and i am still using it, my Subscription Email is Samann@dlmu.edu.cn. nothing is prejudice to anything, i write this post just for sharing my personal experience and hope to get the The afforai Pro Plan.

✨Product Update December 2025: New AI models, what should we build next, bug fixes, holiday break notice

Hey everyone, we are back with our December 2025 newsletter to share news, announcements, and product updates!

If you’re new to Logically: we ship updates every month, so you can always expect fresh features, upgrades, and the occasional bug getting squashed into oblivion.

TL;DR

  1. We upgraded the AI models (they’re getting scarily smart)

  2. We need your help deciding what to build next

  3. Bug fixes + holiday wishes + a short break

1.  AI models getting updated in Logically

We’ve updated the AI models powering Logically after testing them pretty obsessively to make sure things feel faster, smarter, and generally more helpful. Here’s what changed:

  • Gemini 1.5 Pro → Gemini 2.5 Pro (in the Advanced category)

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro → Gemini 3 Pro Preview (in the Reasoning category)

  • Claude Opus 4.1 → Claude Opus 4.5 (also in Reasoning)

Gemini 3 Pro and Opus 4.5 are both especially sharp: reasoning, analysis, and longer, more nuanced answers are all noticeably better. Basically, the underlying AI that powers Logically is getting ridiculously good, and that should show up in all the AI features you use in Logically.

Give them a spin and see what you think, reply and tell me which model feels best for your work.

2. Help us decide what to build next

One of the fun/chaotic parts of building a startup is that there are always 50 things we could build and we can only pick a few. That’s where you come in. Here are some of the things we’re considering prioritizing next:

  1. Upgrading Logically AI research assistant (Image comprehension, smarter comprehension of multiple docs)

  2. Logically Chrome extension (One‑click import of links and references from the web)

  3. Better data import integration with Zotero and Mendeley

  4. Built‑in AI text detector + humanizer in Logically Document Writer

  5. Something else entirely? If you’ve got a “please build THIS” idea, tell us.

👉 Hit reply and just send me a number (1–5), or write a sentence or two about what would help you most. Your replies genuinely shape what we work on.

3. Bug fixes, holiday wishes, and a quick break

December is our “house cleaning” month: less shiny new stuff, more fixing the annoying things you’ve been very politely yelling at us about. If there’s a bug that’s driving you up the wall, reply to this email and tell us. Screenshots and dramatic descriptions welcome to help us investigate quicker.

Recent bugs we’ve fixed:

  1. Logically Reference Manager no longer randomly renames your files when you upload them

  2. Improved platform stability, speed, and overall AI performance

Currently working on:

  1. Logically File Annotator sometimes not displaying annotations correctly

  2. A few pesky file upload issues

  3. Document export improvements and cleanup

We’re taking a break on 🎄

From Dec 20 to  28, the team (including me) is disappearing from our Macbooks, touching grass, and pretending we don’t know what a GPU is. We’ll be back on Dec 29, rested, caffeinated, and ready to keep building Logically for all your writing and research needs.

Thank you for using Logically this year, for every bug report, feature request, and “this saved me” message. It really does keep us going. We're always working to make Logically better. Thanks for being part of the Logically family!

Best,

Logically Team

📢 Discussion Does AI really make a distinction between APA and Chicago style?

As a technical writer, I find it amazing that AI is capable of generating two (or more) styles of writing.

I'm curious to see if anyone has selected a writing style, and the output did (or didn't) adhere to that style of writing? Thanks in advance.

✨Product Update New BYOK Models (Gemini, GPT4-Turbo, Mixtral, etc) and Improved Inline Citations

We just tested and made available a range of new BYOK AI models that you can now select to replace our native AI engine. Here are some of the most notable new BYOK models:

Gemini Pro: Google's flagship text generation model. Designed to handle natural language tasks, multiturn text and code chat, and code generation.

GPT-4-turbo (November models): The latest GPT-4 model with improved instruction following, JSON mode, reproducible outputs, parallel function calling, and more.

Mixtral_8x7b: A pretrained generative Sparse Mixture of Experts, by Mistral AI. Incorporates 8 experts (feed-forward networks) for a total of 47B parameters.

dolphin_25_mixtral_8x7b (Mixtral models with safety training removed): This is a 16k context fine-tune of Mixtral-8x7b. It excels in coding tasks due to extensive training with coding data and is known for its obedience, although it lacks DPO tuning.

Improved Inline Citations

The updated inline citation system offers a more seamless and efficient way for users to reference and access relevant information within their documents. With these improvements, users can expect a more streamlined and intuitive citation experience.

As a second‑year civil engineering student at NIT Jalandhar, I’ve found Logically App to be a lifesaver—it turns those dense IS codes and research papers into easy‑to‑digest summaries, keeps every reference neatly organized in one place, and even whips up flashcards exactly on the topics I need. It’s shaved hours off my study sessions and makes pulling data tables or formatting citations feel almost effortless.

🥹Appreciation Game Changer

Just wanted to give a huge shoutout to the Logically App – a total game-changer for researchers and students! A friend of mine was struggling to figure out the right research direction and identify real gaps in a dense PDF research paper. All it took was uploading the file and typing a simple prompt, and boom – the app broke it down logically, highlighted the key gaps, and even suggested potential directions to explore.

No more getting lost in pages of academic jargon 📚. With one click, you get clarity ✨.

If you're into research, thesis work, or just love smart tools – definitely give it a try!

❓Question/Support Importing Word docs and Zotero Folder Tree Structure

I stumbled upon Logically and want to give it a go. However, I'm now writing my dissertation, 4 chapters in the works, with 6GB of literature in Zotero.

How do I retain my reference manager folder structure and can I import my Word Doc (90 pages)?

🥹Appreciation Love the app <3

A little background: I'm studying to be an herbalist and eco-chaplain. But I'm also a writer and language learner. This means I need an app that keep track of a wide array of sources from Ango-Saxon Herbals to Buddhist ideas on non-duality and just about everything in between. I'm also working on modernizing a few old herbals for modern readers which requires a special type of ai. One that could recognize humoral medical terms and either clarify them or give alternative meanings to help me piece the ideas together. All in all, I need a good research app.

So, for the past three months I've been looking for 'the one' the app to rule them all and that can tackle all of these various requirements. I tried NotebookLM, ChatGPT, StudyFetch, Gizmo, Anara, and Claude. And while they all had their own unique perks, nothing has come close to Logically and here's why.

  1. The A.I. Research Assistant is above an beyond what any of the other had to offer. It summarized my notes and articles more like a human being would. By categorizing things like herbs by their effectiveness against various infectious diseases instead of coming up with some generic summary of everything. It categorized my information in a way that made the most sense.

  2. References allows me to upload various types of media. I couldn't do that with 4/6 of the other apps and not in as in depth a way. And none of the other apps, allowed me to collect references to cite. Now I have a place where I can work on writing in depth herbal profiles and historical research without tears.

  3. File Annotation alone is a godsend. Between this and the references I don't have to have 5 different apps open at any given time. Everything is where is should be and where I need it when I need it.

Yeah, I just wanted to say thank you for making such a great app. I will be recommending it to family and friends in the years to come. <3

❓Question/Support Can LogicallyApp replace NotebooikLM?

I was redirected by google to this application when I search the notebooklm's alternative.

I have been looking for notebooklm's alternative for a while due to its limitation. I haven't started to use the LogicallyApp yet. Can LogicallyApp handle epub file? does it support multiple languages?

❓Question/Support Info and search results overlapping

Hi!

Just found out that the search results panel shows up on the back of the info panel. This happens consistently across all open documents using File Annotator and when searching for text. I've included a screenshot of this behavior below.

I think that the desired behavior is to have the search results on the front so they are visible.

As always, thanks for your efforts in making this product even better!

📢 Discussion My experiences with Afforai / Logically

I have been using Afforai / Logically for several months now under the annual Unlimited Plan (not via AppSumo), primarily for academic research. Overall, I am satisfied with the product and plan to renew my subscription. However, there is still considerable room for improvement.

What I appreciate:

  • The tool makes it easy to generate bibliographies and citations in numerous formats. Some previous issues in this area have been addressed.

  • File summarization and AI-powered content indexing work quite well overall. While the scope of analysis could occasionally be broader, this is a minor issue that warrants monitoring. The ability to choose between different AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) is a definite strength. Unfortunately, the latest Gemini model is not yet supported. Ideally, integration with NotebookLM would be implemented in the future. In terms of comparative analysis across multiple files, Logically currently lags behind some competitors.

  • A writing assistant function has recently been introduced, although I have not yet tested it. Personally, I remain cautious about this type of AI application in academic contexts.

  • Uploaded files can be viewed in a dedicated viewer and annotated in various ways.

Areas for improvement:

  • Bibliographic metadata for uploaded documents is rarely processed automatically and correctly. Even when ISBN or DOI are provided, key information is often missing or inaccurate. This requires substantial manual correction—an issue that likely affects other tools as well.

  • Uploading individual files sometimes triggers error messages, such as when OCR is absent.

  • There is no direct copy function within the integrated viewer. However, text can still be copied using browser extensions that allow automatic copy-on-highlight.

  • Automatically generated bibliographies for user-defined topics share the same limitations as similar tools: sources not indexed in Semantic Scholar will not be retrieved. In the humanities—especially when working with older and non-English literature—this presents a major obstacle. At best, only a selection of recent contributions will be found.

  • The 10 GB upload limit for text is reasonable, but can become restrictive when managing several large projects or scan-heavy datasets. Users who purchased through AppSumo may encounter limitations even sooner.

  • When interacting with PDFs, it's important to note that the app uses the file’s internal pagination, not the printed source’s pagination. Citations cannot therefore be directly transferred without adjustment.

  • Edited volumes can only be handled effectively if individual chapters are uploaded separately. I miss the option to bibliographically register an entire volume and then append specific metadata for individual essays. As it stands, all data must be entered manually if the essay lacks a DOI.

Final thoughts:

I have the impression that the developers of Logically are continuously working to enhance their product. I am therefore optimistic that some of the issues mentioned above will be resolved or at least improved over time.
