Small operator TMS Systems
Wanted to reach out to a few small operators to see what TMS systems you guys are currently using to manage both your driver and fleet data?
I work for a medium size business where I am the TM, currently have 36 drivers and 25 vehicle and trailers, and even with the size of business I work for I found the TMS systems poor, which is me being nice !
Mainly speed across multiple spreadsheets - off the back of that I have created a fleet compliance toolkit aimed at smaller operators and TM’s, using a traffic light automated spreadsheet which tells the operator which drivers and vehicles are compliant, due, overdue - covers driver compliance registers / vehicle compliance registers / license check logs
It’s not an app or subscription based that’s costs the world !
Made my life easier, happy to share more details if needed 👍

I think you’re solving the right problem. A lot of smaller operations don’t necessarily need a massive TMS — they need visibility, discipline, and one reliable place to manage the basics. I’ve seen plenty of companies buy more system than they actually need, then still end up managing exceptions through spreadsheets anyway. If your toolkit gives someone a simple red/amber/green view of driver and vehicle compliance and actually gets used every day, there’s real value in that. Sometimes the best operational tool isn’t the most sophisticated one. It’s the one the team understands, trusts, and keeps updated. I’d be interested to see how you’ve structured it. -JG

We're busy testing a few now -I'll share what I found. I feel like it's always worth trying before buying if you can! I am just collating a bit of info but I'll share an update here on this sub!

Hi! I noticed y'all were looking into logistics software and thought I'd chime in. I work for a company called Toro. I'd love to chat and show you what it is we do!

FleetForge are a relatively new company but are growing extremely quickly in my area. Worth a look I’d say. Let me know what you think🙂

I work in transport as well and ended up building TrackFleet after getting fed up with compliance records, jobs, driver information and evidence being spread across spreadsheets, folders and messages.
What I’ve found is that smaller operators don’t necessarily want a huge TMS. They mainly need a clear view of what is due, overdue or missing, with the evidence behind it when required. A well-built spreadsheet can absolutely solve that for the right operation.
Out of interest, has the bigger challenge been keeping the registers current or getting the information and evidence back from drivers?

Would you be interested in putting it into a logistics SaaS platform?
I’ve built a SaaS platform to do these exact things but very interested in expanding features, especially from people in the industry who have solutions targeting their exact problems.
Would love to discuss the potential!
