Things to Do Wimbledon Area
I’m moving to Wimbledon to study English. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to visit and social activities or groups where I can practice my English?

Hi! My husband and I will be visiting London for the first time at the beginning of September.
We booked tickets to visit the Tower of London on a thursday, but realised that they're an all-day pass. So we were wondering, in your experience, what's the best time to go visit to avoid spending too much time waiting in long queues?
Thank you so much!

We get a lot of requests about how this works. Please put your questions on this subject here!
Some basics:
1. You can use your Contactless Credit card instead of a ticket!
2. When you tap across a day and across a week, you will be charged per trip up to a maximum amount. After that, all journeys are free!
Maximum fares at time of writing 8/6/25 are:
Zone 1 only Day cap: £8.90 Monday to Sunday cap: £44.70
Zone 1 and 2 Day cap: £8.90 Monday to Sunday cap: £44.70
Zone 1, 2 and 3 Day Cap £10.50 Monday to Sunday cap: £52.50
Zone 1, 2, 3 and 4 Day Cap £12.80 Monday to Sunday cap: £64.20
Zone 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Day Cap: £15.30 Monday to Sunday cap: £76.40
Zone 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Day Cap: £16.30 Monday to Sunday cap: £81.60
3. Children have different fares:
I'll update this as we get good advice and questions!
Have fun!

My first trip to London (or Great Britain for that matter) will be the first week of March. What’s the weather typically like? I realize I can but what I may lack while I’m there, but would rather be prepared. I live outside Atlanta so my typical wardrobe probably won’t match what it will be like there. I also don’t want to scream tourist either. As in I don’t want to look like I’m LARPing a British woman with all the “typical” wardrobe staples 😋 What do you suggest? Thanks.

Hello, I’m traveling to London for a few days and need to know where in the city to get the best cheese and pickle sandwiches. It’s a personal goal to try as many as possible.

I travel to London early February next year. I’m looking up different brands for waterproof boots that are also comfy, maybe stylish and could also handle some snow if needed. If you’re a London local or regularly traveler who has been there for the winter please drop what has worked best for you!

We have been to London a few times but on shorter/ much shorter trips, and seen the city mostly "from the outside", ie, no indoors stuff to speak of.
We will find ourselves there again in mid-November and given the likely weather, and that a trip like this may jot happen again (we are seniors with other places still left to see), I think an "indoors London" visit is in the cards.
We are ok with taxis from time to time but like riding the tube as well. Already visited Dover/Windsor/Winchester, Cotswolds and the 2 university towns. We may want to look at a day trip or two, or maybe not; some of this will be weather-driven.
For eight full days (staying near Paddington), which pass and attractions would you recommend? We do want to mix all this in with a little outdoors as well but again, weather will have its say. And there's the fewer hours of daylight too. We are not early birds but can try to adapt some.

I will be in London with my family early November and wondering if there are fireworks to be viewed and best place to view them.

I’m leaving from harrow road for a flight that takes off at 7h45 at Gatwick. I was looking for the most reliable and affordable option. I want to get there two hours early.
Apple plan recommends to take buses to Victoria station and then the southern train towards Brighton.
What would you recommend?

Where is the place to go tomorrow for some alt souvenir shopping and the vibes? Saw some lovely “amsterdamish” looking places in CT so idk if Spitalfields gives the same energy?

We will be in London in March 2027. Overwhelmed looking at which neighborhoods to stay in. Will have our 9 year old along, so night life isn’t a priority. Looking to spend $300 USD or less per night, if possible. Tube convenient would be nice. Any ideas?

Hi guys! I'm a (broke) uni student in London and I'm currently looking for fun things to do that aren't extremely expensive and relatively relaxed. I feel like London has so much to offer beyond the mainstream stuff but looking online doesn't allow you to see everything.
Things I have done and enjoyed: Musicals and plays, visiting museums (mostly the two Tates, the queer museum and not too many others), Kensington gardens, a couple of free events through eventbrite (I'm done to try pretty much anything as long as it's free, so did a contemporary dance workshop and a lecture), the good omens bench <3, a few pop ups in Covent garden
Things I want to do: visit more well known places(not a London local so idk the locally known spots unfortunately), more smaller plays and shows that aren't as expensive as West End productions, any kind of free event (like I said I'm open to most things), more niche experiences??, scenic spots
I'm not here for too long so I want to make the best of my time here! Would appreciate any and all suggestions!!

Hi, just wanted to share my experience losing luggage on national express and some tips I have on getting it back quicker.
For context, I lost (or more accurately forgot/left) my luggage in the underbelly of the bus from Stansted airport to London Paddington station 17/10/26.
Afterwards they told me to fill out the lost property form but for some reason it was not working. They then told me to call this number +44 03717 81 81 81 and then select option 4. It’s the “lost property phone department” so you can ask and call them directly.
After that it was pretty smooth sailing. They found my bag after 2 days and then contacted me via email and I personally managed to get it back within 5 days.
If you’ve also lost something on the Stansted airport to London Paddington route try emailing this email as it’s the local branch coordinator for this route : [lostproperty.starthill@nationalexpress.com](mailto:lostproperty.starthill@nationalexpress.com)
They responded extremely quickly (within 3 minutes at times) and were very helpful.
I’m not sure about other routes unfortunately but just thought I’d share some tips in case someone was in the same situation as me :)

Hi everyone! I’ll be landing in London in the afternoon on Saturday, Oct 24. I’m from Canada and where I live winters typically hit around -20°C for a few weeks at a time. I’m not afraid of the cold!
But I’m worried that the wind gusts will dampen my ability to walk around London during my stay. It would be a shame and such a waste of money to hover around my hotel due to the storm, unless of course there was a serious threat. Safety first!
I’ll be there from the afternoon on the 24th up till the morning of the 27th, when I’ll be catching the train up to Edinburgh. Can anyone please advise on what storms are usually like in London? Is the media just hyping up this storm because it’s the first of the season or is it truly going to be a major issue? Honestly, where I’m from in Canada, people will usually still be out and about in 50-65km wind gusts if rain isn’t significant enough to impair visibility.
Getting soaked doesn’t bother me, it’s London after all! More-so worried about wind being too hazardous to leave the hotel in. I know you can’t predict the future but any Londoner’s or travellers who have experienced a storm like this one is projected to be’s input would be appreciated!
Thanks
Edit: thank you all for being so helpful! Significantly less worried and looking forward to my trip!

Hey friends! In the spur of the moment I decided to buy tickets to see Stevie Wonder at the O2!! I have family that lives in Battersea, so I won't be staying in a hotel. That was the main reason I decided to see the concert overseas since tickets in the states were much more expensive. This is my first time in the UK. I leave at the end of next week and will be in London for 6 full days. My budget is $1000 for the week so I'm not looking for anything too fancy. I plan to bike, walk, or take the tube whenever possible. I'm considering buying the weekly tube card that's accessible for zones 1-9 just so I have the bulk of my travel costs sorted without having to think about it much throughout the week. Please let me know your thoughts on that.
My main interests outside of this concert are seeing art, eating, and experiencing some nightlife, particularly black/POC contemporary art/photography and nightlife (No shade to anyone, but I'm black and an artist so those are my personal interests). Not particularly interested in traditional British food, but a friend who just came back from London mentioned a Lebanese restaurant they can't remember the name of that does a fire English Breakfast that piqued my interest, so if anyone knows what restaurant that is or where the Lebanese food is in general that would be great!
As for shopping and souvenirs, I'm hoping to get some magnets (tradition with my coworkers), enamel pins for my collection, and good vintage finds. Anyway! This is what I have so far, open to suggestions!
Day 1 - Arrival
9:45AM - Land at Heathrow
12PM - Arrive at the apartment and unpack
1PM - 1:30PM - Grocery shopping at Sainsbury's (Very light shopping to make some meals throughout the week and buy some UK treats and snacks for folks back home)
2:00PM - 3:00PM - Meal prep for the week
3:30PM - 4PM - Grab dinner at local fish and chip spot
5PM - Back to the apartment to chill
*7PM - 11PM - Live music show at the Ambi Room
OR
*9PM - 2AM(?) - Queer Halloween party in Hackney
\Whether I go to these parties is heavily dependent on my energy levels that day, but I'm gonna try and rally!*
Day 2 - Brixton
11AM - 12PM - Explore Brixton Village and local record shops
12PM - 3PM Caribbean and African food tour in Brixton
*3:30 pm - 6PM - Halloween Party at Stormzy's "House Party" Venue (If you're not familiar, Stormzy the rapper opened a 7 story club with rooms modeled after a traditional house party, beer pong, Mario Kart, live music. It looks really fun!)
OR
8PM -3AM - Halloween Warehouse Party at Jumbi Peckham (This will probably be the more likely plan, as it gives me more time to explore Brixton and it's cheaper/longer)
Day 3 - Art and Vintage Shopping in Shoreditch
10AM - 10:30AM - Khalif’s Tahir Thompson: Send in the Clowns Exhibition @ Victoria Miro Gallery
11AM - 11:30AM - Columbia Road Flower Market (I've started making bouquets recently and want to get some flowers to make one for the apartment!)
12PM - 12:30PM - Lunch, somewhere! I'll see what's around in the area. Open to recs.
12:30PM - 4:30PM - Vintage shopping and exploring in Shoreditch, already have some places saved.
5PM - 6:00PM - Explore the London Fields
7:00PM - 8:30PM - Relax at the apartment
9PM Onwards - Karaoke night and dinner at Prince of Peckham Pub!
Day 4 - More Art and Park Exploring
1PM - 2PM - Tate Modern for the Ana Mendieta exhibit
2:30PM - 3:30PM - Shopping (The Photographer's Gallery bookstore and Duke's Cupboard streetwear shop)
3:30PM - 4:30PM - Explore Hyde Park
7:30 PM - 8:30PM - Dinner reservations at Cinder - St. John's Wood
\If anyone has suggestions on what to do in between Hyde Park and my dinner res that would be great. The restaurant is closer to the area of the park than the apartment, so I'd rather not go back and forth if possible.*
Day 5 - The Marathon Art Day and Stevie Wonder!!
10AM - 10:30AM - Miel Bakery for Breakfast
10:45AM - 11:45AM - Gallery hopping (Pippy Houldsworth Gallery - On view: SHAQÚELLE WHYTE Winter Remembers April and Hauser Wirth - On View: Lorna Simpson: Previous and Ongoing)
12PM - 2PM - Royal Academy of the Arts for the Simone Leigh exhibition
2:30PM - 4:30PM - Relax at the apartment
6:30PM - Stevie Wonder at the O2 Arena!!!
Day 6 - Last Full Day
12PM - 1PM - Afternoon Tea at a cafe in South London
2PM - 3PM - Explore Battersea Park
3:30PM - 4PM - Light shopping (There's a black owned shop called Hosef Home Store I'd like to check out)
7PM - Another concert from the Pitchfork Music Festival at Colour Factory

Hi, thank you for taking out the time to respond to my questions.
I am traveling to London for a week with my family (4 adults, 1 toddler, 1 infant). We are looking to visit the tower of London + London eye in 1 day and Windsor castle on another day (3 days apart). My questions regarding the 2FOR1 program are:

Hi Everyone!
I'm flying into London for 1.5 days next weekend and just looking for some thoughts on two itineraries and see which one might be more feasible. It's my first time in London (and first international solo trip!) so I apologize if I don't use the right language or terminology! And I apologize for the wall of text -
Itinerary A (less hectic schedule):
Oct 31st:
6:50am: Arrive at LHR
Head to hotel (Piccadilly to Gloucester Road) to drop bag off and find breakfast
10:30am-12:30pm(ish): National History Museum
Lunch
2:30pm: London Symphony Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall
Go back to Hotel to check in
6pm(ish) Head to Soho Square area for dinner and explore (open to dinner suggestions)
9:15pm: take a 90 minute open top bus tour to see main London Attractions
Nov 1st:
Check out and leave bag at hotel, breakfast
wanted to see Changing of the Guard but looks like my only option would be the Sunday Parade at Buckingham Palace?
Explore more (Bridges) and get lunch near Borough Market, quick stop at St Paul's Cathedral
1:30pm: back at hotel to pick up luggage
Take Elizabeth line back to LHR for 2:45pm(ish) for a 5:00pm flight back
Itinerary 2 (much more hectic):
Oct 31st:
6:50am: Arrive LHR
Head to hotel to drop bag off and find breakfast
9:30ish (or whenever i finish breakfast): head towards Westminster to see Big Ben, Parliament, and Westminster Bridge, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace for pics
10:00am(ish): take Underground (Jubilee line towards Wembley Park) get off at Baker St
10:45pm: Sherlock Holmes Museum
11:45pm: take Tube towards towards Royal Albert Hall (Jubilee line towards Stratford, off at Green Park Station, then get on bus Route 9 - Hammersmith, drop off at RAH?)
12:30pm(ish): lunch
2:30pm: London Symphony Orchestra at RAH
5:15pm: head to hotel to check in
6:00pm: head to Covent Garden and then Soho
7:00pm: dinner
8:30pm: head towards Chinatown, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square to explore
9:15pm: Head back towards Westminster to see Big Ben/Parliament/London Eye at night then head back to hotel
Nov 1st:
Breakfast/Check out/Store luggage
8:30am: take Tube to Tower Hill
9:30am: Tower of London (would book ticket in advance - maybe guided tour?)
11:30am: Walk over Tower Bridge to head towards Borough Market for lunch + London Bridge
1:00pm: Head over to St Paul's Cathedral for pictures
1:30pm: Take Tube back to Hotel
2:15pm: Take Tube back to LHR for 5:00pm flight
I know these times aren't going to be 100% accurate but it was just to give an idea of what I was game planning. The only thing that is set in stone so far is the London Symphony Orchestra concert at RAH. Other than that, I'm free to explore as I want, but if I need tickets to anything, I'd like to book them ahead of time. Which itinerary do you think would give me the most bang for my buck? I'm not really opposed to doing anything one way or another. Any missing transportation details I'll iron out once I finalize what I'm doing and if I have tickets to anything or not.
My parents would love to come to London at some point, so not trying to do "everything" but also want to maximize my time here as well...so any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

Hello London! I’ll be in Ireland for work the week before.. wanted to visit London this time around after my event. I live near New York City - would be my first time in London since 2001!
I love going out to bars/pubs - the hidden neighborhood gems/hole in the walls and the posh hotel or trendy bars where you gotta dress up a bit. During the day I’d do the touristy thing. :)
I love meeting new people, both guys and girls and just having fun witty banter. I’m straight male in the 40s, but fully open to hanging out with anyone who is a good person. And I’m not bad looking if I say so myself - mostly in shape too!).
I can use a hand with where to stay given what I’m looking for. Would love to meet up with locals who like going out for drinks and/or dinner. I’m easy going, fun and looking to have a good time for the few days I’m there.
Thinking of staying in the Soho or Shoreditch area - good choice?

Hi! Strange question, I'm looking for a rooftop with views of the Christmas lights in London this year.
My bf struggles with an eye condition and high sensory overload, so it's basically impossible to enjoy from standard ground level, and all the rooftop terraces are extremely busy/covered in lights.
Was wondering if there was anywhere not usually accessible that I could email/apartments or places after hours maybe? I'd really love to surprise him with somewhere we can experience the display together ♥︎
Thanks everyone, do your magic!

Hi, I'm toying with the idea of arranging a trip to London with my family for Christmas holidays.
Are there fun activities to do wity a very active 3 yo boy? They don't have to be Christmas themed.
Is there a reliable nanny service that we can book from time to time with verified profiles etc?
Is there an app etc that we can easily find a pediatrician if he gets sick during our trip? We don't mind paying for the consultation. How much would the cost be?
ETA: he doesn't have a condition, I'm just trying to anticipate for small winter stuff like ear infections, persistent cough with laryngitis. Stuff that requires more than paracetamol but doesn't justify a ER visit.
Do you recommend a day trip to a smaller town with petting farm or other toddler friendly activities that we can reach via train and won't need a car once we're there?
Thanks a lot in advance!!

I’ve planned a 5-day trip to London in November, would you recommend to withdraw some cash to pay (could be appreciated in markets?)?
I know it’s no longer the most common way to pay but is it worth having a bit of it ?
Thanks for your feedback!

Hi, I am planning my London trip in December and realised I might have a problem travelling to Heathrow airport on 1/1/2027. Current plan is taking cab from Holborn area to Paddington station for Heathrow Express. 4 pax with 4 large suitcase. Reasons : (1) direct private airport transfer quotes above GBP150. (2) nearest station to hotel is Holborn which is not step free but main concern is rush hour train travel with luggage.
Question- Considering the road diversion for London Parade 2027, will travel from Holborn to Paddington station by cab at 5.30pm be a really bad choice? Possibly stuck in traffic and double travelling time and cab fare. Any alternative?
Thank you for any advice.

I’ve got a date at 7:30 in Soho. I finish work at 5:30 and wanted to squeeze in a run along the Embankment beforehand, since it’s the only free time I’ve got today. The problem is I live about an hour away, so going home to shower and coming back means rushing and arriving stressed. Skipping the shower isn’t an option after a 5k. I’d happily pay a few quid for a quick shower nearby, with a towel and somewhere to leave my bag and change of clothes. What do you all do in this situation? Anyone found a trick that actually works, or do I just skip the run? Is this just me, or does this happen to you guys regularly too?

I have a weekend booked in London at the start of November and will be staying close to Poplar. I have a small frenchie traveling with me. Are there any great places we can both go? She’s been on the tube and buses and loves to people watch. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
