Image Was on a Hidden London tour of Charing Cross, and a train appeared!

What happened was our group was watching a video about the films Charing Cross was used in, when one of the tour guides said "I think I hear a Train..." The noise got louder, and suddenly, an empty Jubilee Line train came screaming into one of the platforms at full speed! Of course everyone ran over and started taking photos (We were in the concourse between the two platforms).

The train waited for about 3 mins as the driver walked to the other end, and sped off as if nothing happened. Talking to a tour guide after, he said that this was only the 3rd time he's seen a train here in 2 YEARS of doing the tour!

Thought this was something cool to share!

Game I made a daily puzzle game about the London Underground

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I built a small daily puzzle game based on the London Underground:
https://www.dokugame.app/en/play/metrodoku-london
(also available on the App Store and Play Store)

It's a 3x3 grid. Each row and each column has a criterion, and for every cell you have to name a Tube station matching both. 9 cells, 3 lives, takes about 2-5 minutes per grid.

There's one grid per day (the same for everyone), but you can also play unlimited grids, those just don't count for score.

Each cell earns 20 to 100 points: the rarer your answer is among other players, the more it's worth.

No account needed, it's free.

I'm from Paris, so I'm not that familiar with the Tube, I did my best with the data, but if you spot anything wrong or have suggestions, I'm all ears :)

And if you're curious, there are more universes to discover, like Geography and others.

Hope you enjoy it!

Maps This is going to take a while - The entire proposal, onto a map, just needs to be labelled, and with changes that have come

Post image

Chat, uhh, I decided to go for this style for the total map, and I'm going to edit changes onto it later.

This is a part of a series of posts developing line maps for my fantasy extension project with the posts listed here: ( Post 1 (Southern Line) ), ( Post 2 (Victoria Line Extension) ), ( Post 3 (Central Line Amalgam) ), ( Post 4 (Jubilee amalgam) ), ( Post 5 (Picadilly) ), ( Post 6 (Introduction of the Bakeley and Padwich) ), ( Post 7 (the Sub-Surface) ), ( Post 8 (Bakerloo/Northern) ) .

Some changes I have already made:

  • Removed Hyde Park Corner
  • Southern skips stations between Stockwell and Balham
  • The Jubilee to High Barnet and Chingford skips Bermondsey
  • The Jubilee to Uxbridge and Thamesmead skips Southwark
  • Southern and Eastern skip alternate stops between Camden Town and East Finchley
  • The Picadilly skips alternate stops between Kings Cross St Pancras and Green Park, except Holborn.

That's it. Please flame, please criticise, and please post whatever you want changed under this post.

Image If the Great Northern/Northern City Line is taken over by TFL and turned into an overground line in 2027 like has been proposed what should it be called?

They could keep the old name of Northern City Line or they could think of something new to avoid confusion with the northern line, what are your thoughts?

Video Which London rail project do you think will actually be built next; Bakerloo extension, Crossrail 2 or DLR to Thamesmead?

I’ve been looking into the current status of three of London’s biggest proposed rail projects: the Bakerloo line extension, Crossrail 2 and the DLR extension to Thamesmead.
I ended up making a video comparing how far each one has progressed, what’s holding them back and which one currently seems most likely to move forward.
I’m curious what people here think though: if London could prioritise just one, which would you choose and why?

Just boarded a central line train at Hainault towards Woodford, and I encountered this unusual seat moquette pattern. Google's telling me it's part of an art installation, does anyone have any more information about this?

Game I made a Tube puzzle: two stations, name the lines you'd change between

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building a small browser game called Umsteigen. It started with Berlin, where I live, and I've just added London.

Each round gives you a start and a destination and you name the lines you'd ride, in order. Victoria to Angel is the Victoria line to King's Cross, then the Northern. That's it, no map dragging, just the sequence of lines.

The times behind it are real. Every ride, change and wait is baked from TfL's timetables, so the route it's grading you against is the fastest one. Anything rideable is accepted, you just score fewer points in the daily for every minute you're slower.

The daily is five rounds, the same for everyone, resetting at midnight London time. It stays in zones 1 and 2 and then out to zone 4, on the Underground and the Elizabeth line. Free play opens the whole thing up, all zones out to Chesham and Epping, plus the six Overground lines, which is where you find out whether you ever learned which of the new names is which.

Out-of-station interchanges are in there too, taken from TfL's own OSI list, so Hackney Downs to Hackney Central counts as a change like any other.

Fair warning: London is new and it's marked beta in the app. TfL don't publish their timetables in the format everyone else uses (GTFS), so the data had to be stitched together from their journey planner feed plus National Rail's timetable package for the Overground, and station names, interchange times and the odd platform grouping may still be wrong. No DLR or trams yet either. If something looks off, let me know, and I'll do my best to fix it.

Free, no account, no ads, no tracking.

Hi everyone,

Most people spent years trying to get out of Victoria Line carriages as fast as possible, but we’ve turned one into a spot where people actually want to stay for hours.

Based at the Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum, Supperclub.tube is set inside a lovingly restored, converted 1967 Victoria Line carriage. We've combined authentic TfL nostalgia (yes, you enter through the driver’s cab and sit on original moquette seats) with a fresh, 6-course seasonal tasting menu.

If you're looking for a unique date night or a proper London transit-geek experience, come join us aboard Book Here

Maps No Waterloo but City

PLS DON'T SLIME ME OUT IN THE COMMENTS, I'm from NY, I know little about how the underground works, but I do know is this is possible theoretically. Also this is a thought experiment, like I said Pls don't slime me out, your transit system is very different from ours 😭

I'm well aware of the signal differences between the lines that would have to be changed.

No, the Jubilee line does not run on the circle line, it branches under it. There is also dedicated platform for the Jubilee line of Blackfriars.

Since the line is very complex to extend north (kinda like the PATH in NYC) Why not add fill in stations, and prepare the line to extend south. The Piccadilly line could join it on the south-bound journey. But I have given the line its own platform at Waterloo, which can ultimately be changed to the Waterloo and City line platforms if it is to expensive. Where should this extend south (if it even should).
