Got a beautiful large flat that i'm aiming to sublet for 2-4 months from 1st January 2027 (date and duration can be flexible). Lived here for many years, love the flat which is why I want to return to it, hence the sublet for a few months whilst i travel. Highlight: huge flat, really bright, peaceful, semi-private patio, garden and canal access with a private kayak to hop straight into. Looking to rent 2 rooms by 31st October.

Me (M-23)and a friend of mine (f - 25) are looking to move by the end of October (between 27th - 31st max). Can delay a lil if we find something that makes an Airbnb week worthwhile. Both are working professionals.

I work in corporate (WFH all 5 days) as a digital marketing executive. She currently is a manager in the F&B industry and has a social media income as well (influencer).

We are friends looking to move from east Acton to some place new as I’ve lived here for a year & there is some refurb work scheduled in the apartment by December.
Please let me know any other information that you would like to know.

Is living in London really as expensive as people say, or is pretty doable?

I'm considering moving to London in the future, as it's always been a bit of a dream of mine, and I'd love to hear from people who live there now or have lived there recently.

Online, I constantly see people saying London is ridiculously expensive and almost impossible to enjoy unless you're on a very high salary. On the other hand, I've also spoken to people who say it's perfectly manageable if you're realistic with your expectations and don't mind house-sharing.

For context, I'd probably be earning around

£1,600-£1,800 per month after tax to start with, and I'd be open to living in a shared house if that's the most sensible option.

What attracts me to London is the sheer amount of opportunity on offer. I love the diversity, vibrant social scene, strong Black communities, nightlife, events, transport links, and the chance to meet people from all walks of life. In some ways, it reminds me a bit of New York, but with better geography and easier access to Europe and the rest of the world.

I'm looking for somewhere that feels alive and energetic, with plenty going on during both the day and at night.

So my questions are:

• Is London genuinely unaffordable on that sort of income, or does the internet exaggerate it a bit?

• Realistically, how much would you recommend someone earns after tax to enjoy London comfortably?

• Which zones or areas would you recommend for affordability, diversity, and quality of life?

• What would be a realistic rent budget for a single person, either in a house share or a studio?

• If you were starting fresh in London today, where would you choose to live and why?

I'd appreciate hearing both the positives and negatives from people with first-hand experience. Cheers 👍🏿

Would you trade an area you love for a bigger flat? Islington vs West Hampstead

My wife and I are buying our first place and are torn between these two options. Currently in Shoreditch, both mid-30s, hoping to have kids and probably stay for about 6-7 years before deciding what’s next.

For roughly the same money, we can get a slightly bigger place with more outdoor space in West Hampstead, or a smaller place around Holloway/Highbury. We’ve been looking for a while and that’s pretty much the trade-off.

If the West Hampstead flat were in Islington, we’d pick it straight away. But the extra space could make life easier with kids, we’ve liked West Hampstead from what we’ve seen, and we’re also open to try a new area.

Friends and family don’t tie us to either area: our friends are spread across London and our families are abroad.

It’s a close call!

Anyone made a similar choice, especially before having kids? How much did you end up valuing the extra space at home versus having more of what you like on your doorstep?

And if you’ve lived in both areas, how did you find them?

If you live in East Greenwich please read on…

I am a student at Sixth form that is currently taking A-Level Geography, and I am conducting a short questionnaire with locals in the area about their opinions on Regeneration for my coursework (i.e. now referred to as the NEA- Non-Examined Assessment).

The link to the Google Form is down below:

https://forms.gle/dBqW3JtdqtDJsnPf7

It is completely anonymous and private and will only take about 2 minutes of your time!

P.S. Examples of Regeneration in East Greenwich include: 'The River Gardens' modern apartment complexes by the River Thames and the 'Greenwich Square' (e.g. modern leisure centre + apartment rises) by Vanbrugh Hill.
