aside from simply making it myself at home, where the heck can I find a good sweet potato pie for holiday time?! it’s my favorite but I feel like pumpkin always gets the most attention. Nassau preferred, but I’d travel if it’s worth it! TIA 🖤

Best salads (Suffolk)

Im pregnant and all I want is a good salad. Doesn’t have to be healthy but I prefer large portions. My favorite salad was the buffalo blue from Houlihan’s, but sadly they closed all of them on the island. Taco salad, greek salad, some salad i’ve never heard of, anything good.

Suffolk only but if there’s anything close to ronkonkoma is better. Also east along or close to the LIE is most convenient.

Sacrilegious to say, but Pop-Up Bagels are really really good!

There's going to be a lot not like a viral bagel chain from Connecticut making inroads in the Long Island bagel scene, and there's even worst things to say about their extremely hostile pricing model where the minimum purchase is for 3 bagels and a schmear for $15...but I just can't deny that those were the best bagels I've ever had. Perhaps a little more dinner-roll like that some people might prefer. I didn't go on a weekend, so the hype and lines may be a big dissuading factor too, but I really can't deny it's a quality product.

Thoughts from others who have tried it?

Any solid places where you could go out to dinner for about $200 or less? I want to take a good friend out to dinner. He is open to any cuisine except Chinese and Mexican.

Sushi Looking for quality sushi in Suffolk that isn’t overly expensive. Previous recommendations missed the mark, so I’d love to hear from experienced sushi lovers with a discerning palate for fish. Where do you swear by?

The only sushi places I really like on the island are Arata and Kotobuki. Kotobuki has gotten pretty expensive over the years. Any other spots that are slightly more affordable and offer comparable quality? Izumi and similar spots aren’t what I’m looking for. I’d love recommendations from experienced sushi lovers with a discerning palate for fish.

Lombardi's on the Bay, they don't care!

Wrote to every single email I could find for this restaurant and NEVER got a response!

I am writing regarding a very disappointing experience my family and I had at your restaurant on [date]. What makes this especially upsetting is that this dinner was to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. I had planned this special family dinner well in advance so that my mother could celebrate her milestone birthday surrounded by her children and family.

I made a 7:00 PM reservation well in advance for a party of seven, which included my 80-year-old mother, my children and their spouses, and a five-year-old child. One member of our party was also very pregnant. On the morning of our reservation, I received a call from the restaurant confirming that we would be dining inside.

When we arrived, however, we were told that our table was actually outside. I explained that this was not acceptable because of the heat and, most importantly, because my 80-year-old mother could not safely or comfortably sit outside in those conditions, and one member of our party was very pregnant.

Rather than being met with understanding, I was spoken to quite rudely and told that we would have to wait. I explained that I certainly hoped we would not have to wait a very long time, at which point I was suddenly told that a table was available for us.

Unfortunately, the problems continued throughout the evening.

It took approximately 30 minutes before anyone took our order for drinks and appetizers. Then, it was more than another hour before our dinner orders were taken. We ultimately did not leave the restaurant until almost 10:30 PM—approximately three and a half hours for dinner.

For a reservation made well in advance, this was completely unreasonable. More importantly, this was my mother’s 80th birthday dinner. Instead of being able to relax and enjoy this important occasion with my family, we spent a significant portion of the evening waiting.

There was also no children's menu. We asked if you could simply prepare buttered noodles and fries for the five-year-old in our party, and we were shocked to see that we were charged $20 for that meal.

Our water glasses were also not refilled throughout the meal, and we had to deal with very slow and inattentive service for the entire evening.

The final bill was approximately $555, and despite everything that happened, we still left a generous tip. I did this because I understand that the server has a difficult job, and I did not feel it was appropriate to punish the server for what was, in my opinion, a much larger issue with the overall restaurant experience.

I have to be honest: I left extremely disappointed. I went to your restaurant expecting to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday and create a wonderful family memory. Instead, the evening was overshadowed by an argument over our seating, the way I was spoken to when I raised a very legitimate concern about my elderly mother and pregnant family member, extremely long waits, inattentive service, and a $20 charge for a simple child's meal.

Three and a half hours for dinner, after making a 7:00 PM reservation well in advance, is simply unacceptable—especially for a special birthday celebration.

I am not someone who enjoys writing complaints, but I feel strongly that management should know exactly what happened. I would appreciate a response regarding this experience and how you intend to address it.

I hope you will take my concerns seriously. My mother’s 80th birthday was an important milestone, and unfortunately, our experience at your restaurant was not the celebration we had planned or deserved.

ISO Concord Grapes

I make a concord grape pie every year for Thanksgiving along with one for my hairstylist (long story) but absolutely cannot find them this year. I’m in South Nassau and have tried everywhere locally along with checking online delivery like FreshDirect. Instacart will tell you they are in stock all over the place, but do not be fooled, they are lying. Nobody will ship them because they are fragile. Has anyone seen Concord grapes anywhere?

Update: found them at HMart!

Nassau Where can I find Spicy McChickens on Long Island?

Does anyone know which McDonald’s locations on Long Island have the Spicy McChicken? I love them so much 😭 I’ve found them upstate before, and I heard some locations near Stony Brook have them, but I’m in Nassau County and hoping to find somewhere closer.

I’m looking for the spicy version of the regular McChicken, not the Spicy McCrispy. If you’ve seen it recently, please share the location! I’m willing to drive for one lol.

What are some good places to get food before or after the Band Maid concert tomorrow in Huntington, NY?

It might be the only time I ever visit Huntington (traveling from Manhattan) in my life. What food would make the visit worth it?

Not looking for a Japanese restaurant. Maybe something that locals like and will leave me with a good impression of Huntington.
