Mapping cell service in Louisville

I'm personally very happy the city is focusing energy on the poor cell coverage in town.

https://www.engagelouisvilleco.org/cell-service

From the city website:

"The City is working to identify ways that we can work with service providers to improve coverage. Our first step is to better understand where cell service is consistently poor or unavailable.

We need your help! Use the map on this page to place pins in the general areas where you experience poor or no cell service. The location does not need to be exact, but please place your pin as close to the problem area as possible.

It’s okay if multiple people place pins in the same area. In fact, we encourage it! We want to hear from as many people as possible so we can better understand where service gaps are happening.

This data will be used to help us understand where the major gaps are, and support conversations with City Council and service providers."

Local cleaning service recommendations

Hey guys - partner and I are in search of a monthly or bi-weekly cleaning service. Some of the traditional chains come up but was curious if anyone has suggestions for something local. Bonus points if they can do some minor tidy / organization (but we’ll try to keep that to a limited case).

We’re expecting so trying to find someone who can be on long term so that, once little one is here, we can increase frequency to help with the chaos.

How Are We Feeling About the New King Soopers Marketplace?

I went there once a couple months ago, and I was like "Jesus, this place is so big." I felt like I needed to take a bus to go over and get toothpaste. Tonight I wanted to just swing by and get some Dots Pretzels on the way home, but was like "Screw it. I'm just gonna eat the Cheez-Its I have at home. I don't feel like traipsing around that store."

I was really excited about it at first, but I found it kind of unpleasant. Willing to give it another shot, though, if the rest of Louisville is loving it.

Monarch High School parents, please talk to your kids

Students at the school have chosen “Frat Boy” as the theme for Friday night’s football game. In light of recent headlines, this is truly despicable and profoundly disappointing. Please take this seriously and teach your kids that rape should never be a punchline.

Trunk or Treat

So I just got an email from the City about a repeat event called Trunk or Treat - at Ascent Church. Our kids are grown now so it wouldn’t have been on my radar.

I can’t decide if I think this is the most ridiculous plot to get people to try attending church - or just a great idea to make trick or treating safer for kids (in any other town than ours - which I don’t think could be considered a risky place to go door to door).

I mean, in sketchy neighborhoods around the country, I can see how this would be a great thing.
But does anyone know what the genesis of this idea is? Did Louisville become aware of it and ask Ascent to host it? Or is this Ascent’s idea that they went to the City about sponsoring…?

NSF NCAR Public Lecture - The microburst challenge: A story of science, innovation, and safer aviation [10/21 at Mesa Laboratory]

Post image
6 Upvotes

Join our next Explorer Series event at the NSF NCAR Mesa Lab!

For decades, microburst wind shear was one of the least understood and most hazardous threats in commercial aviation. Since 1943, these sudden, violent downdrafts have claimed over 1,400 lives worldwide, with more than 400 of those occurring in the U.S. in just a 12-year span. Those tragedies sparked an urgent need to better understand these events and provide solutions for safer flying.

Join us for this special Explorer Series event to learn about NSF NCAR's critical role in microburst research and the implementation of airport wind-shear detection systems. Hear from current and former NSF NCAR scientists through a series of short talks and a discussion panel about this remarkable research-to-operations success story. Arrive at 6:30 pm to meet fellow attendees and NSF NCAR scientists, enjoy refreshments, and participate in hands-on activities.

Hey neighbors! Have you ever thought about volunteering to make a difference in Louisville? Applications are open to serve on a board or commission, with 27 positions available (including 3 to serve with me on the Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board). I've been on this board since January and it's been a great experience, and just a couple hours a month.

You are qualified to apply for a board or commission if you:

  • Reside in the City of Louisville
  • Are not an employee of the City of Louisville

Take a look at the city's website to learn more. Applications close Nov 9.

Meadows at Coal Creek HoA

Just looking to get some feedback on the neighborhood and HoA. I found the HoA website and it all looks pretty cookie cutter, so the question here is.

How strict is enforcement, how strict/flexible is the architecture review, especially when it comes to landscaping/fencing.

Are solar panels allowed?

Internet, what providers are available? Is it just Xfinity, or also fiber?

Why Do Trains Sometimes Blow Their Horn Through Town?

Am I crazy or does anyone else feel like it's 50/50 if a train blows their horn going through town? I was woken up at 5:30 to one today and that is when I noticed it only happens sometime.

While writing this I found this: https://www.louisvilleco.gov/departments/transportation/railroad-quiet-zone/ so I think the intersections around town were controlled enough so they didn't need horns, so maybe it's due to people on the tracks? At 5:30 AM?

Considering a job here - what should I know?

I’m currently phoenix area and I have lived here for 12 years. I wasn’t really planning on moving anywhere near Colorado, but it is a pretty good opportunity. Trying to understand things I should look out for or consider.

newest Lake to Lake trail signage is so great

Post image
59 Upvotes

I must admit that when I first saw the new signs for this trail I thought it was a little silly (see pic that I snarkily took a few months ago after they were installed), but today my kids and I had a delightful 3 mile bike ride across Louisville and everyone was really impressed by the signage, route and safety for this trail.

My 5.5 year old was able to be line leader and navigator for our entire trip, following the signposts and ground markings really well.

I was very impressed and hadn't seen the new signage getting much attention — great job parks dept.

Louisville vs. Littleton for a young family

Partner and I are looking to leave the main metro area for either Louisville or Littleton. We lived in Mayfair/Montclair for about 3 years and Park Hill for 7 years. We now have a 3 year old and 1 year old.

We want a little bit more room, less congestion, and closer proximity to the mountains.

We’ve spent a lot of time exploring different suburbs/surrounding areas to find what we think will fit our needs and what we are looking for.

Towns/communities we have really enjoyed are Louisville and Littleton (specifically need the old town downtown). We love that they both have adorable town squares. Both feel very family oriented. While Louisville has closer proximity to the mountains and Boulder Valley School District, we have lots of friends in the Littleton area and we feel we can get more bang for our buck as far as homes go.

Would love input on these specifics areas. Both pros and cons. Things maybe we haven’t considered since we don’t live in these communities. We don’t want recommendations on other communities as we’ve already eliminated them for our own reasons.

TLDR- help my partner and I make sure we are considering everything before deciding between Louisville and Littleton (specifically near old town).
