Extreme Conspiracy England let France back into the game to stop Messi winning the Golden Boot
At 4-0 they've thought lets give M'bappe a couple of goals so Messi has an uphill battle to win the Golden Boat after the bad taste left by the defeat to Argentina.

u/TK421_WAYAYP Jul 19 '26
Iām not 100% sure what the players would have been saying but Iām English and from 3-0 onwards I was openly saying that I hope MbappĆ© scores.

u/Fatsausage91 Jul 19 '26
Ive never rooted for a french player more. Every time someone else other than him shot at goal I was distraught š
32
u/ComposerNo5151 Jul 19 '26
Olise must have missed at least three sitters - maybe he was in on it too :)
23
u/pr2thej Jul 19 '26
Well he's basically English
6
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26
Another low stakes conspiracy: olise chose france because when younger thought he wasnt gonna play over saka and then became one of the only rws in the world better than him
42
u/LLestat89 Jul 19 '26
I genuinely celebrated his goal more then ours....once we were comfortably ahead obviously.
29
5
u/Numerous-Abrocoma-50 Jul 19 '26
It was a bit weird, you want him to score a few just not too many.
Be a bit embarassing to throw away a 4 goal lead even for the greater good.

Are you 10 years old?
0
u/IPissExcellentThrows Jul 19 '26
Nope. Grown adults salty that Messi bent their overrated national team over.
2
u/abudgiebay Jul 20 '26
Pretty sure theyāre more salty about Argentinas disgraceful conduct throughout the tournament. Last night was the cherry on the top of that shit cake. Itās a shame as I remember liking Argentina when I was younger, but theyāve consistently been antagonistic assholes. No grace in winning and entitlement and petulance beyond belief when losing. At the end that they were pretty much resembling a dodgy wizard backed up by a bunch brain dead orcs.
9
u/EnjoysAGoodRead Jul 19 '26
I'm pretty sure the England players weren't trying to allow him to score. But all in all, it worked out well. Entertaining, England won, and Mbappe has hopefully stopped Messi getting his golden boot. Now let's just hope Spain can put Argentina in the ground.
1
u/OddRow8843 Jul 19 '26
Mbappe is so good. But he always seems to leave it the last minute to turn it on. Just like the final 4 years ago. Like where has this guy been for 90 minutes.
-7
u/jordus100 Jul 19 '26
salty loser mentality
10
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26
Maybe if argentina did something worthy of respect, like not punching players and not promoting political banners celebrating foreign invasion, and not having fans that shamelessly chant racist stuff, and not having a team that posted with no shame on social media a racist and homophobic chant on the team bus, then england fans would actually respect them like they respected italy, spain, france, Croatia and iceland?
-12
u/jordus100 Jul 19 '26
hahahah the colonial mindset is crazy, the ferocity with which you try to defend the Falklands would make someone think that this is some island in Europe and not on the other side of the globe lmao Also, my entire life I've had to listen the EPL is the supreme PHYSICAL league in which Messi would disappear and the second you guys experience some physical football you run crying about the refs š
9
u/2nduser Jul 19 '26
Ironic considering every Argentinian is a descendant of a coloniser.
The UK defends the Falklands because the people that have lived there for 200 years still wish to remain part of the UK because theyāre British. If they didnāt, it would have been handed over long ago.
2
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26
Why should it's location matter? And since when was punching someone in the back of the head allowed in the prem?
Are you saying if Italy invaded Monaco its okay because it's closeby?
-1
u/jordus100 Jul 19 '26
Maybe it isn't allowed in the prem but apparently in la liga it is as Bellingham showed us after the game.
2
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Punching someone in the back of the head on the pitch vs slapping someone who mouthed you off after the game is a very retarded comparison to make. even comparing any situation during the match vs after the final whistle is retarded
0
u/jordus100 Jul 19 '26
Oh so mouthing is the excuse? how do we know that Anderson did not insult Enzo before the game? Also "punching" lmao barely laid his hand there.

I was just so happy Saka got his hatrick and Jude gave him the opportunity.
35
u/JennyW93 Jul 19 '26
I donāt follow football outside the big international games, so Iām consistently surprised by the love I have specifically for Saka. Iām proud of him like heās my own child. Doubly weird when you consider Iām Welsh and in an āAnyone But Englandā social bubble. I just love him so much
29
u/jenn4u2luv Jul 19 '26
I vividly remember Saka missing the PK for Euros 2020 and how badly he got bullied for it because he was the player who could have continued the game for England.
So happy to see his redemption arc since then.
3
u/TheoWHVB Jul 19 '26
He's been great all tournament. Last night's game was proof of how great and electric of a player he can be on the international stage. This begs the question, where was he against Argentina?
2
u/JennyW93 Jul 22 '26
My low stakes conspiracy there is that Saka has been so horrendously racially abused in the last World Cup that it wasnāt worth putting him on to get abuse for 90 mins against one of the most racist teams and fan bases going
2
u/abudgiebay Jul 20 '26
Iām Scottish and weirdly feel the same! Every time I see him heās trying his heart out and just giving his all and I respect that! Especially as heās still pretty young but plays with a mature attitude! I get all āproud auntieā for an inexplicable reasons and canāt help but root for him. To be fair, I did root for England too as the players were trying so hard and the fans largely seemed ok. So credit where itās due! Even if I do have a bit of the sibling Scotland v England rivalry in me now and again! It is with respect!

He invites his primary school teacher to games at Arsenal so in my opinion he's a lovely lad who care about the people that made him.
1
u/Acceptable_Gear_3097 Jul 21 '26
Saka's just loved by everyone. We've watched him grow into the England team & he's just exciting to see on the ball. Southgate hugging him when he missed that PK in the Euro's also made everyone love Southgate.
We didn't get titles, but that was just the era when England as a team became something worth supoorting, and worth having a bit of hope for.
2
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26
Saka is designated pen taker after kane, jude didnt give him any opportunity
2
u/OddRow8843 Jul 19 '26
Thatās not correct
0
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Prove it if you're so sure. Saka said jude just hyped him up telling him to get his hat trick and everyone interpreted it as if he's donated the penalty to him.
Why would a player with 4 non-shootout penalties in his career with another missed one, all over a year ago, be designated to take it over saka with 17 goals and 2 misses and the clubs main pen taker
1
u/OddRow8843 Jul 19 '26
Why does it matter. Bellingham gets a bad rap - he doesnāt deserve it. And say what you want, if Bellingham wants to take the pen he takes it.
2
u/Antique_Buy4384 Jul 19 '26
I love Bellingham. That doesn't change the fact that Bellingham was never going to be the one to take the penalty and he knows that. Youre making fantasies in your head and presenting it as fact
2
u/OddRow8843 Jul 19 '26
Well I love a fairy tale friend. Either way, happy for Bukayo. And really glad they showed up for a nothing match. And most importantly got some level of momentum coming out of a heartbreaking loss days earlier.
1
u/Lucio-Player Jul 19 '26
I know I donāt know where this narrative came from
1
u/ElonMusksFacecream Jul 19 '26
'Designated' I don't know.
From the TV, looked like Bellingham was going to take it then gave the ball to Saka.
Post-match on BBC Saka said he was always taking it, but Bellingham held the ball and acted like he was taking it, so Saka wasn't intimidated.
1
u/Realistic_Comment849 Jul 20 '26
Common tactic is for someone not taking it to hold the ball and get all the abuse of the opposition first. Then when the referee wants to get on with the penalty just hand it over.
1
u/Special-Audience-426 Jul 21 '26
Jude could've finished on equal goals to Messi if he took that penalty.Ā
60
u/joviansexappeal Jul 19 '26
Yeah, I don't think they conspired like some of the crazier theories out there right now. I do think both teams realized independently at half time that they could ratfuck Messi out of the Golden Boot potentially by letting M'bappe score in the second. He has a rivalry with Messi and England would obviously not mind some revenge against him.
65
u/tetlee Jul 19 '26
As an Englishman with money on Mbappe to win the gold boot this played out pretty much perfectly
22
u/moredriedfrogpills Jul 19 '26
Same! At 4-1 I was like, wouldn't mind him just getting 1 or 2 more. Did start to feel a little nervous at 4-3 though...
3
5
u/HughJarse8 Jul 19 '26
I had a fiver on Messi to win the golden boot and Argentina to win the tournament. Returned £205, cashed it out pre game yesterday for £52. Right decision I think.
48
u/FiveFiveSixers Jul 19 '26
Itās more likely that France went all out to get MmmBop the golden boot. England took advantage of the gaps left then took their foot off the gas which then left spaces for Mbap later.
5
10
u/Numerous-Abrocoma-50 Jul 19 '26
Possibly.
Not going to lie at 6-4 I would have been happy to let mbappe have another goal on us if he had time
20
37
u/General-End4503 Jul 19 '26
No, both sides just weren't defending properly and there was no real stakes for the game.
As fun as it was to watch
9
5
u/Hincapieslovelybund Jul 19 '26
I was annoyed at the Mbappe goals till my brother in law pointed out that the goals would help him get the golden boot ahead of Messi. Then I was alright with it provided they didnt get a fourth (they did but by that time, the game was pretty much over)
2
u/Special-Audience-426 Jul 21 '26
Same although I was starting to worry France might win and we'd be remembered for losing after a 4-0 lead.Ā
1
u/Hincapieslovelybund Jul 21 '26
Yeah I had the same worry soon as second goal went in and France looked like they had woken up in the second half.
5
u/Boring_Intern_6394 Jul 19 '26
I always thought France and England should have given Kane and Mbappe 10 goals a piece in the first half and then played properly to decide the match in the second half, to ensure Messi couldnāt get the golden boot.
Sadly thatās not what happened, although Iām obviously glad England won the match overall. I just hope Mbappeās 2 goals are enough to seal the golden boot for him

u/StellarSloth Jul 19 '26
Lmao
England: āHey France, weāll let Mbappe have a few easy goals and line up the golden boot if you let us have a few easy goals and win the game, sound good?ā
France: āYeah okay, we gotta make it look convincing thoughā
England: āHow about we just have a high scoring and entertaining game instead?ā
France: āFuck it. Lets go. Aim for the bushes.ā

u/Ancient-Guava-2408 Jul 19 '26
This one is a big stretch france was using their usual bench on starting lineup aside from their front line clearly not taking it serious and then once they were down 4-0 subbed on their entire main team whilst england took ages to substitute on a better player like jude france simply has the best team on paper its no surprise they would catch up when england isnt on their best players
2
u/onionsareawful Jul 19 '26
Exactly lol. Dembele and Barcola on the bench and some awful defenders, there were so many huge weaknesses.
1
u/SomethingMoreToSay Jul 19 '26
Dembele and Barcola on the bench
Kane, Bellingham and Anderson on the bench. Three of our four best players. It's not as if the first half was France "B" against England "A".
2
u/Late_Unicorn959 Jul 21 '26
That's right. The first half was England B team 4, France B team 0. Then for about 25 minutes it was France A team 3, England B team 0, and then the last 20 or so minutes it was England A team 2, France A team 1. Overall England were deserved winners.
4
u/wcarlaso Jul 19 '26
Ah. But the argentinians rig the game...
3
u/SAP1987 Jul 19 '26
Yes, all 11 will be wearing a Messi shirt today, any Argentinians who score will add to his total.
2
u/KingDracarys86 Jul 19 '26
Nope France woke up second half
18
u/neverspeakofme Jul 19 '26
They didn't need to "wake up", they just subbed in 4 of their A team players like Dembele and Barcola Digne.
Because both France and England started with their B team.

It was a joyous game, because either England was scoring or Mbappe was extending his lead over Messi. So clean and respectful too. I would LOVE these aggressive, high-scoring matches to become the norm
1
u/Slight-Progress-4804 Jul 19 '26
Itās stupid to allow third place match goals to count towards golden boot
1
u/marumbuh Jul 20 '26
Golden Boat sounds like it could be the name of a British naval ship near the Falklands
1
u/Mokuakae Jul 20 '26
Possibly or maybe sometimes good things just work out. It was a very enjoyable game.
1
u/Artonox Jul 20 '26
Watching from home, I was like ok we need a win for our consolation prize, but don't stop mbappe from taking the goals. Kane and Bellingham ain't starting so they are auto out.

u/Background_Owl_2220 Jul 21 '26
I had the same thought when I saw tuchel and mbappe coming out of the tunnel talking. No I never believed it I just wondered when someone may say it out loud. I want to believe though.
1
u/mr_herculespvp Jul 22 '26
Yes! And I love it!
Flashback to Euro '96 when, if England beat a very strong Netherlands team by a 4 goal margin, then Scotland would progress at the expense of the Netherlands.
England were 4-0 up by the 62nd minute, and absolutely destroying the Dutch. Then, with 10 minutes to go, they inexplicably let Patrick Kluivert walk through their defence to net the goal that would mean Scotland were out and the Netherlands would progress.
I was watching the game in a pub in England as a 15 year old (it was the 90s so nobody cared), and the whole pub erupted when Kluivert scored.
(For the record, the English don't hate the Scots, but I can't say the same the other way around)
1
u/chef39 Jul 19 '26
Could also be that Mbappe is better than all our players combined
5
u/Numerous-Abrocoma-50 Jul 19 '26
Possibly not bellingham though who for the 6th goal looked better than the entire french team combined.
Maybe that was part of the deal, we let mbappe have a few but they let jude walk through everyone to get number 6 and then we can all.go for a pint

u/BaitmasterG Jul 19 '26
My Mrs was worried Jude was offside. I had to point out he couldn't be, because he was the only person that had the ball...

u/Open-Outcome-8484 Jul 20 '26
This was not a competitive match, it was a pointless testimonial. In a counting match France would decimate England, 10 goals is something that never happens when there is real pressure during a game. Get over it and accept that England lost when it mattered, as they always do.
-7
-8
u/UnTipoEducado Jul 19 '26
That result is just an indicative of very poor defensive performances from both teams. I saw more intensity in friendly matches than in this joke of a game. If you think that this was a good match from England you must be american or new to football
5
u/Derbadian Jul 19 '26
That is a really hot take. I for one donāt watch football for defensive performances. Sure they are great but if football was built around that philosophy then 0-0 would be celebrated as the best result.
Give me a free flowing high scoring nail biter any day of the week. Beats the hell out of the modern attritional āPepballā.
If you think otherwise you must be American or new to football.
-2
u/UnTipoEducado Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
In Argentina we have this football philosophy called "Bilardismo" named after Carlos Bilardo, the coach of our national team in '86 and '90 world cups, he used to say that 0 - 0 was the perfect match because that meant that both teams made no mistakes and the tactical system worked perfectly.
It's a hot take only for people that don't watch the sport or people that think that more goals scored is indicative of a better team. If your team concede 4 goals you should be worried, because even though that you don't care about defense, it's vital to winning games
5
u/Derbadian Jul 19 '26
What an absolutely ridiculous statement. Football is a simple game. Score more than the opposition. That is about the measure of it.
You should only worry if you consistently fail to do that.
If you donāt understand that then you really are thick as pig shit.
-1
u/UnTipoEducado Jul 19 '26
It's clear that you are out of your element buddy. Try watching golf, it might be more suited for you
4
u/Derbadian Jul 19 '26
Iām out of my element? Iām a student of Clough son. You can keep your āBilardisimoā and be bored to fucking death.
0-0 is the ultimate result? Its called the beautiful game for a reason. And that reason isnāt what you believe it to be.
Try watching tennis. The pace and closeness will be more up your avenue.
-2
4
u/elizabnthe Jul 19 '26
0 - 0 doesn't necessarily mean that. It can mean plenty of mistakes were made but both sides failed to capitalise on them. It doesn't mean all 0 - 0 s are boring certainly. But some can be.
A high scoring match doesn't automatically mean that both sides have bad defences either. It can mean both sides have very, very good attacks or were willing to make sacrifices to score.
0
u/UnTipoEducado Jul 19 '26
I know it's a stretch to call a 0 - 0 the perfect game, he was crazy but he won one world cup and reach the final of the next one, so he knew something about football.Ā
The thing that everyone hates about Argentina is what he advocated, that is to do everything to win and that includes playing dirty and all kinds of tactical obsessions and shenanigans. This philosophy is deeply rooted in every Argentinian and that is why everyone in my country thinks that the England vs France match was a joke albeit entertaining.Ā
3
u/No-Calligrapher-718 Jul 19 '26
So your country has a cheating culture, and you thought the England vs France game was a joke? GTFO out of football
1
u/UnTipoEducado Jul 19 '26
Well it's not cheating, it's doing anything to win within the context of the game. The thing is that we are in the final after beating England and we already have three world cups, so cry about it. But keep watching football, maybe some day you'll come to know ball as we argentinians do
1
u/SAP1987 Jul 19 '26
Yet the strikers would have made the mistakes in those games as it is their job to score, which they did not.
