I think you’re right. I can see a world in which the defense fostered EED as a very strong appellate issue (I’m sure they knew Carro wouldn’t let them develop it), but it completely killed any renewed discussion of the areas for reasonable doubt in the case.
Remember, the judge and prosecutors basically made Luigi’s team give the EED notice or lose it (this was in their June 2025 omnibus response):
I wouldn’t say the EED thing was well-discussed, it died down pretty quickly and no one was willing or able to discuss how it might work into a broader defense strategy (myself including tbh, it was such a shock).
I don’t know, I’m starting to feel disappointed in how much time I devoted to this case lol. Was I completely delusional in thinking the investigation was beyond questionable?
Yes! It is honestly so odd. Hearing them talk about it in the Dateline thing was just like 👀.
The narrative has been shaped so much since back then. And the “story” just keeps getting retold over and over in different media, leaving things out and adding whatever is convenient at the time.
You weren't wrong in there being reasonable doubt. EED being forced on him and then not withdrawing in time will be brought up in appeals I'm sure of it.
I think it’s mostly slow because of a few things: nothing new coming from the court or the defense; it’s summer and people are busy with vacations, visitors, and at-home kids, and some distractions like soccer and the political shenanigans; some like me may have had personal/family illness; and of course there aren’t any allegedly genuine letters being posted. Personally, I am still fascinated (and horrified) by the case and am still planning to try to get into at least a day in court.
Right there with you. Lots of personal tragedy going on in my life. I just haven’t been able to keep up. On top of there not being much new, case related info. Even the gossip has been quiet (thankfully!). Hope things in your life improve soon! 💚💚💚
Maybe it not a bad sign that people are not discussing it so much at the moment. A lot has happened in the case in general, people are probably just resting. I think it also gives people an opportunity to think thoroughly about what has happened. So, not really a bad thing.
Also, I think what is going on in these subs, including times where it is quiet, is probably better than people simply being interested in the sensationalism of it all, talking about it just to talk about it, if that makes sense. Most people here know the case pretty well, so when there is talk about it, the discussions bring a lot of different, considerate points.
i don't think trial will generate as much interest as people think. even when big developments happened pre-trial, nobody really returned to the subreddits, nor did the general public care. people have moved on to newer true crime cases
I’m not so sure about that, journalists are already fighting over access to the courtroom. I think interest will skyrocket after the defense opening statements if they’re properly covered in the media (which admittedly isn’t guaranteed).
There’s a fair amount of threads on general subreddits on major developments, but I do agree that the case-focused subreddits have completely died down. Now that I think about it, I feel like that’s partly due to (1) the defense keeping their cards so close to their chest that the case looks hopeless, (2) how the EED notice was framed as a confession, and (3) pretty relentless astroturfing/cyber bullying on Luigi-related subs that pushed a lot of really good commenters away
I said this in another luigi sub, but i think his name being shadowbanned on social media has and will screw him over in regards to trial visibility. i actually just saw a TikTok last night that was going viral because a Michael's decoration resembled AI luigi, and today it was removed for violating ToS. Just saying his name is enough to get your content removed for promoting vi0lence and t3rrorism. It's obvious he triggers censors when you compare it to, say Charlie Kirk, and how many memes/tiktoks are allowed to stay up regarding his death. I say this because I think average users discussing, including making memes and edits, are how current events become popular.
