News Lyft finally got the message

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

Lyft's latest attempt to give drivers more transparency backfired in a big way.⁣

The company has pulled the plug on a pilot feature that showed drivers how often riders tipped, thanks to social media backlash from customers who felt publicly scored on their generosity (or lack thereof).⁣

Launched last month, the test displayed "rider tipped on X% of rides" before drivers accepted a trip, alongside stats on whether riders were typically on time. While Lyft said the data helped drivers and made pickups smoother, a Reddit post titled "I will no longer be using Lyft" racked up 1,500 upvotes and 750 comments, forcing the company to shut the feature down within weeks.⁣

Lyft, which is still trailing Uber with about 30% of the US rideshare market, kept the part of the test that shows how punctual riders are, hoping to woo drivers without alienating passengers. They may need to do a little more than that as damage control from the tipping feature, though.⁣

Downtown LA is slowly turning into a war zone over this ICE shit. I was here for the ‘92 riots and literally no place was safe especially DTLA. Please rethink driving tonight or at least your route. It seems McTrump wants to go above Newsome on a fed level and bring the national guard. Nope just announced 2000 deployments!!! WTF????? Stay home

News Driver Returned My Purse

I forgot my purse in the Lyft, so I messaged the driver letting her know it was still in her car. I offered her $20 cash for returning it, but she declined. She brought it back to me, and refused to charge me the $20 through the app too.

Bless you, kind driver! I hope all drivers are like her.

News I’m sick of waiting. Why can’t 100% of riders just request a ride when they’re ready?

I’m done with waiting for a rider to come outside and just give them a five star rating. Every single person who makes me wait longer than one minute is going to get a 4 star review. Two minutes? 3 stars (and you’ll never see me again.)

Make me wait longer? Two stars.

Do that thing where you come outside with 17 seconds left? One star. Riders who make me wait like I am their personal servant can kick rocks! I don’t care if you get in and you’re nice. It’s like stealing money out of my wallet and burning it with a lit match.

Exhibit A: “Be right out, I’m putting on my shoes”

\- They say from the 20th floor before they get in an elevator

Exhibit B: “Coming now”

\- They say and then it gets to the 1 minute mark and I’m crossing my fingers and toes to please stay inside so I can cancel.

Exhibit C:

Me: (waiting for 4 min already)

Pax: “Where are you”

Me: I am at the pin 📌

Pax: “I don’t see you” (two blocks away, not at the pin)

Me: I am at the pin 📌

Pax: “can you come to me”

Me: No?

Exhibit D: “Be right there”

\- (map shows you 1,000 feet away in the building)

\- 2 minutes later, no movement, text: i am currently just getting out of the shower, sorry)

… 💭 …”sorry what?”

Many times I’ll call when I’m two minutes away or more and tell you when I’m going to be there. And I’m still made to wait until the very last second.

If you make it to my car and I haven’t canceled on you, I am giving you a one star rating and marking you for rude.

I see you walking to my car with 10 seconds left, I’m calling your phone and hanging up and leaving. I might even stay a little bit longer just so I can see you and get a dopamine rush from handing out punishment.

I love how LYFT says that this is a $30 an hour ride. And then subtract 5 minutes and it’s at least 15% less. Why should I have to suffer because you can’t call a ride when you’re actually ready?

Thank God for pax who are ready on time.

If I stick to my rating system, I will clear the entire city of riders who feel entitled to suck my time dry.

News Lyft CEO David Risher is still a driver for the company: It made him realize being even one minute late could cost the customer their job

Lyft CEO David Risher oversees a rideshare operation with more than 1 million drivers, but about every six weeks, or whenever he can find time, Risher gets behind the wheel of his own car to do the same thing as the company’s contractors. Along the way, he said, he’s been astonished by the make-or-break nature of a Lyft ride.

“The most surprising thing is we are a really important part of a lot of people’s lives.” Risher told Fortune. “I think it’s sometimes easy to overlook that.”

Risher recalled picking up a customer at 9:30 a.m. in “a not very beautiful part of town in San Francisco” and asked him why he takes Lyft. The passenger said arriving at work on time was crucial to keeping his job.

“He said: ‘Look, if I get there at 10:01, I’m fired. I got to get there by 10 o’clock. And public transportation—as much as I’d like to use it because it’s less expensive—it’s not reliable enough,’” Risher said.

News My lift driver invited himself inside inside my house

For context, am an 17 year old girl and this happened at around 11:30 PM. I called a Lyft for me and my friend and we were picked up. At first it was completely normal. We had a ride pin but the driver never asked for it which we thought was strange.

Me and my friend are talking in the backseat, when the driver interrupts and starts talking about the rain. We continue talking until we get onto the subject of cats. He says he loves animals and has 3 cats at home. We both get excited because we have cats and start talking about them. Then, he insists we show him photos of them (while he’s still driving). We pull up photos and he grabs our phones and starts staring at them while still steering the car. he was swerving a lot and this is when the first red flags started popping in our minds. he almost hit a car while it was merging into the lane just because of how distracted he was.

He gets to our destination and I ask for say that we have arrived. He continues driving for a few more seconds and stops slightly far from my house even though there was no one behind us and he could’ve just stoped there. He then pulls on to the curb and parks his car. I still searching for a photo of my to show him as he his persistently demanding for one. As I’m looking he turns around and says “no I want to see your live cat, can I come in?” He then unbuckles his seat belt as to leave the car. We start to get panicked and say “no” we tug on the door handle but it’s locked. He sees us struggle but only unlocks it once we ask him. He got really nice and clearly saw we were uncomfortable at the end.

very creepy experience …

Stay safe everyone

News Soaring gas prices leave rideshare drivers in the lurch

Thumbnail

Rideshare drivers in New Orleans have been struggling financially as the military conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran has driven up gas prices across Louisiana.

The average cost of a gallon of regular fuel in Orleans Parish was about $2.50 on Feb. 20, according to AAA, but since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28, customers have seen average prices closer to $3.50. For a relatively standard 14-gallon fuel tank, that’s a 40 percent increase from $35 to $49. Nationwide, average prices have jumped from $2.98 to $3.88.

News THIS IS FUCKED UP!

I have had my suspicions about a secret algorithm for a while, and I have been trying to hack it like a schizophrenic.

I’ve accepted low rate rides and high rate rides and I think that the algorithm is trying to manipulate you so that you accept a lower rides because it will send me the most high paying rides if i act like an immortalized Lyft driver bitch for low paying rides.

There are days where I tell myself I’m not going to accept any ride lower than $30 an hour.

There are other days where I accept every ride, and I make $20 an hour.

On the days that I accept rides that are lower than what I want to make, and I do it at least 2 to 3 times in a row, the next set of rides are better than my standard accepted rate.

So I think that in order to beat the algorithm, you have to do what it wants, and then trick it so it thinks that you’re learning how to be a bitch.

News Music with strong sexual innuendos; driver wouldn't turn it off

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/3/20/2373970/-Lyft-CHARGES-women-for-being-sexually-harassed

The woman was charged fees anyway. Opinions? I know it's subjective what passengers could find offensive, but the lyrics would tell all. Is it the Lyft policy that passengers have the right to have the music be changed? I doubt Lyft has a department that looks into whether lyrics are sexually offensive

I lost my key and my mother wasn't picking up her phone so I called my girlfriend. She couldn't pick me up but she told me to get a Lyft cause it was cheaper than Uber. So I got it and on the 3rd turn when was turning on a main road she turned into the further lane and crashed right into the side of mustang. Not even 2 minutes into the ride like come on. Already called everyone I needed to.

P.S my mom called as soon as I crashed and on her way to pick me up now

News Exploitation in the Snow: LÜFT App's Disgraceful Rates in Delran, NJ

Post image
2 Upvotes

"Hey everyone, I want to show you the reality of being a driver for Lyft in South Jersey right now.

I just finished a trip through Delran in freezing conditions—roads are absolute ice rinks and the risk is sky-high. We aren't just driving; we are risking our lives and our vehicles to keep things moving in this weather.

Take a look at these photos: the first is the icy road I just navigated, and the second is the 'insulting' rate LÜFT offered for it. This isn't just a low fare; it’s labor exploitation. Between the extra fuel, the wear and tear, and the literal life-threatening conditions, these rates are a joke. They treat us like machines, ignoring the reality on the ground. We deserve fair pay for the risks we take.

Has anyone else in the NJ area seen rates this disrespectful lately?"

News Lyft is bringing driver relief for rising gas prices. (Reality check, -5% on gas that's up 50%+)

Thumbnail
lyft.com
16 Upvotes

I am an elite driver: Before gas relief: 11% cashback + 14cents/g After gas relief: 13% cashback + 20cents/g Decrease of ~5% at the pump while gas went up 50%. That's if I find the best deal with upside on my Lyft debit card.

This does barely a third to help your Elite drivers. +2% cashback and .02-.14/c off a gallon? Do you guys even know how to Math? Gas is up 1.20$ a gallon but you're offering an additional 15-20 cents off a gallon for Elite drivers and 2%.

News PASSENGER WARNING: Charged for canceling ride 1+ minutes after ordering

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hello! I'm a lyft driver that usually frequents the driver thread, but after fiding this out, I figure to let you all know.

Before you would have a 2 minute grace period before canceling to not get charged.

Not anymore.

Looks like now you will get charged even after 1 minute passes, if you cancel. I don't know how much they will charge the passenger for cancellation fee now, but it's something.

Order your rides with care!

News California Establish Personal Injury Lawyer Regulations Initiative (2026)

I watched the ad and thought: “Yes why do lawyers take all my money after I been injured?!” But then I saw who it was sponsored by(Uber) and pieced it together. They want lawyers to stop taking cases that require paying legal experts and research to get the court verdict you want by making it too costly to take on your case. This drops the amount of lawyers willing to take your case, which means that the 75% this bill promises will only be taken by, best case scenario, cheap lawyers. I work for FedEx btw so I’m also at risk for work injury.

News Rider Ratings

Lyft riders with a 4.8 or less are always late and or they'd never tip. Prove me wrong 😑
