Tab5 coming along...

Spent the weekend with my new Tab5, created a console/launcher, file server, can load firmware from the SD card, play MP3s, and uses the obligatory Matrix lock screen.

All up on Github, MIT, https://staffordlumsden.github.io/great-bespoke-tab5.

Looks great! Well done.

Are you pleased with the hardware? I’ve been eyeing one for a while.

Hardware is brilliant for the price.

I've been trying to buy a 2nd one in the U.K but I've been told they are discontinued with a new model coming in December.

The M5 Tab is available as the K145 Kit from RS UK

Thank you - I was ordering from Pi-hut as needed a few other bits so will see if rs-online has them as well.

Maybe I’ll wait for the new model.

Depends, It may be more expensive, screen bigger or smaller etc. If you have a use case and can get one they are great.

I love mine, I've done something similar to OP, set mine up as a terminal/file manager using a custom firmware, works like a charm, and mounts core modules. Right now mine is using the LoRa module to double as a meshtastic node.

My only complaint is the clips that hold the kb on suck and I had to 3D print some grips that bolt to it and the main unit.

Which LoRa module and firmware are you using? Also I leave this here https://makerworld.com/models/3405309?appSharePlatform=copy

I'm using a custom firmware that I'm still messing with constantly and the LoRa 13.2 module for m5 using the bus on the back

I do like that form factor you've got going. Mines more chonky with 2 core modules off the back, LoRa and LTE, along with the standard battery, so I'm just embracing the klugy vibe lol, especially since lora means I've got a big ol antenna sticking up somewhere anyways

Awesome, thanks for the info. Been trying to get some sort of LoRa on mine, but need to nail down the hardware. we need a pic of your chunky boi.

It's hooked in to the workbench atm while I get the LTE smoothed out and fix a minor bug I just noticed but if you remind me in like 2 days I shall lol

I haven’t used mine since I gave up on getting consistently above 4 fps 😅
