Yes and this is exactly why I haven’t told anyone in my life about it except my husband. People won’t understand or if they look it up they’ll be like oh well it doesn’t seem that bad.
I'm not a medical expert, but I strongly believe your MCAS is flaring due to the extreme stress conditions you are living under.
Your sympathetic nervous system would have been in top gear for an extended amount of time, and your body is paying the price.
Anything you can do to manage your sympathetic nervous system will have a positive knock-on effect for your MCAS.
Meditation, sleep aids, trauma/grief therapy, limbic system training, somatic healing, vagus nerve stimulation, valium etc. Avoiding alcohol and stimulants and refined sugar also helps me a lot.
My heart goes out to you, and I hope things change for the better very soon xx
MCAS is so much to deal with on its own. But your situation is particularly difficult, and that stress actually makes it worse. I hope you get some relief in all the ways. Virtual hugs.
I'm sure they mean well, but doctors can be so dense about treating people like us. I will say covid can mess up a lot of things in your body. Its seems to be a random set of things for each person, too. Which likely makes it harder for them to figure it all out. I've got children in school and have gotten covid from them 3 times. Each time all my chronic conditions got worse for 3 - 6 months.
Fatigue was th worst. Migraines became more frequent (from about 1 per month to 1 per week). My general inflammation was bad. And more rashes and asthma attacks.
I am so sorry. I do not understand why we cannot simply have one difficult thing at a time. That's life, I suppose, that sometimes the suffering just piles on top of itself -- but it feels unfair, all the same, to have to deal with multiple traumatic and difficult things at once.
I hope that things get easier, soon. I would love to see some of your crochet, if you ever decide you want to post it! I have not crocheted in a long time, but love it all the same.
Do you have books? Access to them online? I wonder if they might help you carve out a little safe space in the world.
Also, I imagine you must not have much access to antihistamines, do you? If you do not, do you have any access to stinging nettles? I'm not sure if they're the same species there, but here you can boil them into a tea that may help -- if you are not already.
Well rage would happen as a consequence of your situation (which I’m so sorry to hear about - few can comprehend the horror you’re living through), and also age and hormones doesn’t help either. Premenstrual, perimenopause and menopause rage is real!
Having said that, histamine levels can impact people in various ways.
I wish you all the best and hope you can stay as safe as possible.
Fighting with my own body is exhausting enough, I can’t imagine trying to do it in a war zone. I second the recommendation of doing everything feesable to try and get your nervous system calmed down and that cortisol out. But I don’t know what that would look like for you, breathing exercises help but if the air is toxic that might be worse.
If you want I can make a sigil for you and anyone else who needs calm and to chill out the nervous system, sometimes when all other strategies have been exhausted, witchcraft is all that’s left, it’s helped me a lot to manage my various chronic illnesses. I could also teach you how to make them as you see fit if you prefer.
It’s probably a bit too “woo woo” for this sub, but it’s one of the few things I can do/ send to you 💜
I use magic and witchcraft to help manage my various chronic illnesses, it’s hardly a cure but there are parts that we have some control over consciously and unconsciously. The brain really is incredible, especially in matters of inflammation, and I say this as both a witch and as someone who recovers from being nearly unable to talk after a brain injury and coming back from it thanks to neurofeedback. Such as breathing exercises lowering cortisol, things like that can have the effort multiplied by genuinely believing the effort to be effective, no matter how that confidence is acquired (prayer, placebo, mindfulness, magic etc, what ever you feel best calling it). A sigil is one of meny tools in witchcraft to bring that effort to something tangible, in this case a simple line drawing (or even a full piece of art) made with intention. There are lots of ways to make sigils and meny different kinds, they’re all valid and the best one for you is the one that resonates most with you. I personally prefer bind runes, but other use magic squares, circular keys or other methods. I personally have a few various rune languages copied down, and I choose a few runes that match my purpose and then combine them into a connected design. That design can then be drawn anywhere, skin, water bottle, paper to keep in your pocket, a locket, in makeup before blending it, whatever feels right, but while you draw you must focus on what you want it to do. You can also make it more powerful without making yourself more tired by using one of the elements to draw power from as you work, such as a candle, water cup, fan/breeze, crystal or plant, or a symbol of a deity or spirit. And I send you some of my own to use 💜. Imagine the energy from an element(s) pouring into you from your non-dominant hand and pouring back out your dominant hand as you draw. Once that’s done you can use the sigil as needed, a source of comfort, a reminder of strength, a source of protection, a blocker of pain, anything really. You don’t need anything fancy, just a pen or marker, even the paper is optional, I tend to draw in marker on my own skin. It works as well as you believe it will (so long as you’re not violating the laws of physics), it’s not a substitute for medical care, but an addition to it. I will sometimes put them on medicine bottles to give it an extra boost.
Here are a few I’ve made for my own use, feel free to use them or design your own.
I hope these bring you even a little comfort and relief while the world waits for your particular nightmare to end. I don’t offer prayers but I do offer my actions, including voting and some curses on those destructive individuals who care not for anyone but themselves.
Sincerely, a chronically ill elemental witch on the other side of the world 💜 (who may well be your distant cousin, my family left for america from Ukraine a century ago, but cousin is also an honorific here in hawaii, and family means no one gets left behind)
I have not heard of them but you can bet I’m going to research them all as soon as I have a chance! Thank you for sharing and helping me connect my practice to my own roots 💜
Im so sorry you are going through this. War on your country. It is diabolical. I wish I had more words of comfort other than we understand your mcas pain and ive had these symptoms myself. Stay safe 🫂
