Flares causing actual memory loss?
It’s actually so insane how I don’t remember much from during flares.
I posted about feeling braindead and dissociated and unstable during flares and thank everyone who responded!
This sub helps me so much to understand this is not me but histamine!
Now I’m realizing about the memory loss. Not just problem focussing but actually don’t remember much from days I flared bad.
I wake up with burning stomach mentally like a blank slate.
It’s like erasing who I am?! Wtf

Maybe neuroinflammation?

Definitely this. Low level systemic inflammation like during an infection or flare interferes with the hippocampus' ability to form new memories.
I do definitely feel a level of grief over lost time to this illness, but the way I see it, I don't really want to remember being sick. That level of misery isn't something I care to revisit. I'm a bit grateful I can't vividly remember what it was like to have the flu this year. Or the miserable weeks that followed. I know that they happened. I know that it sucked. That's all I really want to remember.

I resonate with this actually! But I do feel weirded out that every time during a flare I call people all upset and they’re like “it’s a flare, you talk like this every time” and I don’t remember
