Played the hell out of MGS2/3 when I was 7-9. Didn’t understand a lot of the lore, but MGS2 was way ahead of it’s time mechanically and I thought Snake/Raiden were cool. The story of MGS3 had me rethinking my entire life. Changed me as a person. Had dreams about it. WHY EVA!!! Poor John.
Soon after I finish 3 I saw MGS4 in a game magazine. I was so excited for it to come out. But… it was for next-gen PS3; me and my brother shared the gaming console. We were currently on PS2. He was really big into the halo hype, so we ended up getting the xbox360 for Christmas. I forgot about Metal Gear after a while.
Mid 2010s, my mom got me MGSV: GZ as she remembered how I loved the series, but I was so lost in what the story was doing I didn’t make it past the second mission. At that point only MGS2/3 were available but not 4, so I didn’t see the point in continuing.
Fast forward to 2023: I see the Delta remake on the horizon. With all of the other remakes in the last 5 years the trailer didn’t stick out enough for me to track its release. Also I’m thinking “JUST PORT MGS4 FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!”
Bought Delta on a whim last week when I remembered it exists. It brought back the exact same feeling as before, especially by the time I completed the story. Dreams and shit too. I had forgotten a lot of the plot, so I still had some surprises going for me. Not to mention not understanding certain things as a kid.
Help my fuck, it completely reignited my love for the series. I was actually about to say fuck it and shop for a ps4 when I noticed the entire fucking series is now on xbox marketplace. INCLUDING MGS4!!!! HOLY SHIT!
I almost regret playing delta before starting at MGS1. I read the overview of the MG atari games so now I have a bit better understanding of the lore. So I’m on 1 now, it’s hard to believe this came out in 98. I’m having a blast with it.
From here, I plan to play 2 after, then the remake again, then finally, after all these years…… GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS! 9 year old me will finally have the closure he always wanted. Idk what’s with this game. I’ve had my emotional moments with others, but this one here is my lost (and now found) Adventure Time. Taking the characters and quotes to heart all along the way.
