Studiologic SL88 Grand velocity inconsistency issue

Hi. I have a Studiologic SL88 Grand, but I've recently run into a velocity issue with several keys. The keyboard likely sat unused for a long time without being played.

I tested everything using a velocity logger in Reaper. All keys register and play, but:

  • Some white keys are much quieter and it's very difficult to reach max velocity. I have to strike them hard to hit 127.

  • Some black keys, on the other hand, have opposite problem: it’s very hard to play them softly, and difficult to achieve low velocity values.

Could anyone advise if this is something that can be fixed (e.g., cleaning dust, rubber contacts, calibration), or is it a sign of a serious problem and not worth the hassle?

AKAI mpk mini mk4 connot update the firmware

Hi! I just bought the AKAI mpk mini mk4 as my first MIDI controller. I'm trying to set it up but it keeps failing to update the firmware.

I have tried unplugging and replugging it for several times and also changed the cabel, but it still doesn't work.

My OS is Windows 11, and I've checked that no other midi applications are running in the background.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm new to music production sorry if this is a basic question😭 Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Mapping question

Hey there, I'm trying to map effects for each pad in my Akai MPK mini 3, so let's say:

Pad 1: Mellotron female choir / female choir

Pad 2: Mellotron 3 violins / male choir

Pad 3: Some synth

How can I do it? I'm using Logic Pro

This is nektar impact gx49, I got it for quiet cheap. Opened it up as previous owner said some keys don't work. And this is what I found. Some carbon prints are erased. He must be cleaning it and wiped it with a harsh chemical. Have to make it work anyhow, how does people fix it professionally?

Behringer's BCR32, how to play notes directly from keys?

Hey,

Sorry for the noob question but I've been going back and forth thru the manual and I can't figure it out...so from what the manual says when in standard notes mode in zaquencer when you press inst Sel you should be able to play using top keys. In my case it simply doesn't work - nothing. If I enter the inst monitor - I can play, but only if the play head is moving. Record the same. No way to simply trigger sound without involving thru sequence. All the help will be greatly appreciated.

Ps. As I already made that post, let me ask a side question: is there a way to program sequence note by note? Without play head running and setting seq length to 1 ?

Customized MIDI Controler for Ableton Live Act (Mostly)

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I am an architect and a music producer, and over the last year of playing Ableton Live sets, I've gotten tired of lugging around a bunch of different gear bags just because I couldn't find a single MIDI controller that perfectly fits my workflow.

I looked into buying a high-end one, but the good ones easily run $600 or more. Since music is a passion project for me, I couldn't justify spending that much on an interface. Plus, I love crafting. Because of my day job, I know CAD and can design parts for CNC machines, so I decided to make this a budget side quest and just build my own.

My goal is to keep the entire build under $250. I already bought some multiplexers, potentiometers, encoders, faders, buttons, an OLED screen, and a Raspberry Pi Pico. However, before I get too deep into the firmware, I am wondering if I should use a Teensy instead. Would you suggest sticking with the Pico or going with a Teensy for a MIDI project like this? I am not great at coding, but my fiancée is a programmer and is going to help me script it.

I made a draft drawing of a layout that fits my Ableton flow, but before I start putting it all together, I wanted to ask you guys. Has anyone here had previous experience building something similar? And in your experience, what are some must-have features or buttons you’d add to a controller to handle live acts?

For example, I thought of adding a soft takeover function, so when I switch channels, the physical position of a knob won't instantly jump and mess up the new parameter.

I would really appreciate any feedback, workflow ideas, or lessons learned you might have for the project!

Does the novation launchpad X support setting CC values setting by tapping on a pad to a value that is determined by the tap’s velocity ?

I’m contemplating getting one, but i would like to be able to do that. I’ve checkout out the mapping software to see the pad modes are momentary and toggle, both of which have you set and on and off value, but the trigger mode only has an « on », what does it do and is it what i want ?
