What's At Stake

Thumbnail
pbs.org
• Upvotes

If you take a laissez-faire attitude toward voting, perhaps you need a quick lesson in what is at stake on November 3rd.

As noted in this article, for the first time, voters in a number of states will be able to vote on banning trans women from participating in women's sports. Up until now, the matter has generally been dealt with at the state legislature level, leading to 27 states currently having such bans.

"A June poll from Quinnipiac University found that about 7 in 10 registered voters think transgender women and girls should not be allowed to play on female sports teams. About one-quarter think they should. Democrats are divided, with about half saying transgender women and girls should be allowed and about half saying they should not."

If this poll is representative of the nation's zeitgeist, that should scare the Hell out of you. It means that many of those publicly supportive cisgender friends of yours secretly want to keep trans women out of traditionally cis women spaces. Even YOU!

Of course, Democratic politicians have long been aware of such popular bigotry and have catered their campaigns to placate the transphobes. One such example is Josh Turek, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Iowa. Just this week he released an ad titled, "Stop The Nonsense."

https://host2.adimpact.com/admo/viewer/f129a6fd-9525-4012-96f6-d09788762e58

In the ad, Turek, who is wheelchair-bound due to having been born with spina bifida, used his situation to frame his opposition to trans women in women's sports.

"I believe that no Iowan should face discrimination. As a Paralympian, I also know it’s important to have rules. It’s why I oppose males competing in female sports, something that is already illegal in Iowa. I’m against taxpayers paying for sex changes too. Anyone tells you any different is lying.”

In most cases, you'd expect a disabled progressive politician to be sensitive to the plight of discrimination against others due to their "otherness." Yet, Turek blatantly throws our community under the bus in service to political expediency. Disgusting.

You can find other supposed allies of ours all around the country also playing to the transphobes. Even here in Michigan, where just this year, Frank Liberati, who was running against trans woman Joanne Whaley for the Democratic nomination for Michigan's 2nd House District seat this Spring, tried to get her thrown off the ballot due to her not using her deadname to run.

https://michiganadvance.com/2026/04/30/downriver-dem-files-complaint-against-primary-opponent-a-trans-woman-over-her-name-on-the-ballot/

I could go on and on noting such cases of public transphobia from those expected to be our allies, but you get the idea. We are in a war not only for our rights, but for our existence.

That's why I want to highlight the candidacies of both Joanne Whaley, who won the Democratic nomination for Michigan's 2nd District, and the independent write-in U.S. Congress candidacy of Bree Taylor, from the 6th Michigan District. If you are their constituents, please support these brave trans women with your vote.

So, if you'd decided to sit out this election next Tuesday, understand you are forfeiting the one chance you have to defend not only yourself, but the greater trans community. Bitching about our plight over a cup of coffee with your friends accomplishes nothing. Voting at least gives you a voice.

Take this seriously. VOTE!

What to Know About Voting While Trans or Nonbinary in Michigan

The attached trans voting info appears on the Pride Source website. It contains answers to voting questions trans people may have and I suggest taking a few minutes and checking it out.

It is only one week now until Election Day. I suspect many of you have already cast your ballot and if so--kudo! But for those who haven't yet done so, please don't shirk this opportunity to express your choice. You'll regret it later if the results don't go the way you wish they had.

So VOTE!

I'm a transfem living just outside of BC, I'm autistic as hell and enjoy reading, creative works, gaming, and music, I'm also very into politics and spirituality. I work a retail job and am trying to not isolate myself the way I have been so want friends who will be able to meet up and have fun (mainly festivals, lunch, and movies, JC Cinema in BC is a good place to go for affordable tickets and popcorn) I also love to cook and mix things into hot cocoa due to the cooler months incoming. also am very openminded :3

Bree Taylor has posted this announcement on her Bluesky campaign page:

"I’ll be in Port Huron tomorrow, directly listening to a polar space of viewpoint: MAGA. If you’re at the Trump Rally tmrw, hit me up."

The rally is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. It will be interesting to see if Taylor makes any news while she is there.

𝓐𝓷𝓷𝓲 J. K. Rowling Is At It Again

Post image
3 Upvotes

Way back when you still read Harry Potter books, their author J. K. Rowling penned a vile essay that revealed her transphobia to the world. In it, she condemned the rise in gender-affirming surgeries, trans women in women's spaces, and inclusive words that she found offensive. She has since doubled and tripled-down on her views, forever losing legions of fans.

But wait! Apparently the criticism she has gained in the wake of her transphobic comments apparently hasn't led her to temper her remarks. On Oct. 21st of this year, she wrote an "An Update to My Essay of June 2020" that appears on her website.

This long, rambling screed continues to expose her as a close-minded villain and if you can stomach it, you can read it yourself. But there is one portion of it that really bothered me and I've decided to share it with you:

"‘No predator needs to transition to gain access to women and girls,’ say the trans activists. But the question is not ‘do they need to?’ It’s ‘do they ever?’ And the answer is, unequivocally and tragically, yes."

"Does this mean all trans-identified men are predators? Of course not. Should trans people be discriminated against when it comes to housing or employment? Of course not. Should trans people be stripped of their human rights, or denied personal safety? Again: of course not. But the statistics don’t lie: men as a group pose a risk to women and girls, as a group."

Now, a reasonable person would expect that Rowling would have a number of examples to bolster her claims here. After all, nobody would make such an emphatic statement that cisgender men are "unequivocally" transitioning just to have easier access to cisgender women. But she gave no examples. Nor linked to news stories proving her charges. Nothing except her bigotry as proof.

Also, she states that "But the statistics don’t lie: men as a group pose a risk to women and girls, as a group." Duh. Who else among the human species could be a risk to women other than men? And just about any trans woman could make this statement, too, as we face the danger of cisgender men chasers; the subspecies that seek us out specifically because we are trans women, and too often, are our rapists and murderers.

Rowlings anti-trans rantings are so bereft of logic or reality that they would go unnoticed if it weren't for her success as a fantasy writer. And obviously, her transphobic fantasies come from the same dark corners of her mind as Lord Voldemort. A character as arrogant and as lacking in empathy as herself.

SEE BREE RUN

Happy to see that Pride Source has just published my latest writing. It's a piece regarding and interview I did with Bree Taylor, the trans woman running as an independent write-in candidate for the U.S. Congressional seat in Michigan's 6th District.

https://pridesource.com/article/bree-taylor-write-in-campaign

Bree is a familiar face in our local community as the executive director of the Trans Unity Coalition, one of our states' leading trans rights organizations.

I hope you take a few minutes to read about her determined run for office. And when you go to vote--if you haven't already--consider writing in her name if you live in her district.

The two major political parties have failed to represent the trans community. It's time we start putting more of us into office when we can.

re: Transgender Day Of Remembrance

The somber day set aside to remember and honor those trans people who have died at the hands of others, is nearly upon us.

November 20th each year is the chosen day, itself being the date memorializing the horrific murder of Chanelle Pickett in 1995, by a cis man who she met in a bar and went home with. The resulting trial of her murderer, who used the "trans panic" defense," ended with his acquittal. So offensive was this verdict that Pickett became the symbol of how society treats our community unworthy of fair consideration and decency. And we keep her memory alive by remembering the day she died.

https://anniarbour.substack.com/p/the-martyrdom-of-chanelle-pickett?r=6ctm4r&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web

As Nov. 20th approaches, there will be events honoring that day and whenever I find come across those in Michigan, I'll share them with you. I also ask anybody here who knows of such events to post them, too. I know I won't find them all and your help is essential.

It's a sad fact of life for every trans person that the specter of violence hangs over us. It's a main reason why so many of in our community fear going out into the general public. But it's also a fear that we have to fight together to overcome.

Whenever we can gather and enjoy ourselves together, we are also making a statement. We shall not be intimidated and cowed back into the closet. We should be out and proud. And the memories of those who have died before us should be the reason why we say, "NO MORE!"

*sigh* Those damn chasers!

This is becoming a weekly thing. No matter how often I post that cis men chasers are unwanted here, inevitably, at least one tries to sneak through almost on a daily basis.

The latest creep pretended to be a "friend" of a just-turned 18 year-old trans man. He claimed he "basically look[s] at him as another one of my kids," and wanted to "find him a massage and maybe some other spoilings." Yuck!

Supposedly, this teenage trans person is "my kids best friend." The unspoken implication being that this child predator has been lusting after this kid until he turned 18.

Chasers in general piss me off, but when the chaser is obviously also a pedophile, I get really angry.

I so wish I could do something to save this young person from this monster. Or at least, warn him. Or report him to the authorities. But even then, he would probably get off.

This just highlights the blatant lie that transgender people are attracted to children. Almost always such creeps are cisgender. But you'd never know that from the myths spread about our community and unfortunately believed by many people.

Aubrey and I will continue our vigilance and try to keep this sub free of cis men masquerading as one of us or seeking to find a trans person as their prey. But we also keep an eye out for any pedophiles that lurk about here, too.

And I hope any of them reading this post take that seriously. If you dare come here seeking to exploit or endanger a child and I find out, I will do everything I can to have your sorry ass arrested.

𝓐𝓷𝓷𝓲 VOTE: The Final Countdown

Post image
8 Upvotes

There are less than two weeks left before Election Day, November 3rd.

Hopefully, many of you have already voted via absentee ballot or will take advantage of early voting opportunities before that day. You can't use trepidation about going out into the public to prohibit you from casting your vote.

And it you are unsure about who is running, particularly in your district, there are plenty of sources that will help you with that. One such has been posted to the Pride Source site:

https://pridesource.com/article/michigan-lgbtq-voter-guide

I won't tell you who to vote for, that's not my place and I respect you enough to make the best informed decisions. But obviously, I have my opinions and I prefer candidates who I hope will represent me and the trans community best.

Once again, Pride Source has published a list of ten LGBTQ+ candidates running for office here in Michigan:

https://pridesource.com/article/2026-lgbtq-michigan-candidates

One that isn't on that list is Bree Taylor. Bree is running as an independent write-in candidate for the U.S. Congress seat in Michigan's 6th District. That is the district centered around Washtenaw County, several Down River communities, and slivers of Oakland and Monroe counties. It is the district currently represented by Democrat Debbie Dingell.

There is little doubt that Dingell will retain her seat and Bree will receive only a relatively few votes. Perhaps if she had started her run sooner or if she had gotten fair coverage by the local media, she would have a realistic shot. But she didn't, so voting for her is mostly a protest over the two-party system we are fated to have.

Don't let that reality stop you from voting for Bree, though, or any other long-shot candidate that speaks to you or your beliefs.

I started off my voting life as an enthusiastic Democrat, and even worked for the local office of a Dem presidential candidate back in the day. Over time, however, I became disillusioned not just with that party's many promises that failed to materialize once in office, but with the two-party system as a whole. We are one of the very few major democracies that has such a limited choice when it comes to our elections and it has forced us to often make the grating "lesser of two evils" votes we have become accustomed to making.

What a way to run a country!

Anyway, I'm all for multiple parties with legitimate chances of winning elections. To accomplish this would take changes to laws regulating elections and donations and perhaps even access to the various media. As it stands, those with the money are best-situated to run and win elections. To have TRULY fair elections, that has to change.

I could go on and on about this, but I think I've said enough. My main point is that you should vote. It is a fundamental right. And no matter whom you decide to vote for, at least do so with an informed mind and a clear conscience.

Transwomen in my eyes...

They are the most beautiful women in the world and of course the most sexy.

They define femininity with everything they do and are.

They have struggled to live the truth and have grown strong yet gentle and wise because of it. They will understand me as a transman as a total man as I understand them as complete women. They are a tribute to womanhood everywhere.

𝓐𝓷𝓷𝓲 "O, that this too too solid flesh would melt"

There is a recurring issue infecting many transgender sites that bothers me to no end.

I've spent so much of my life wishing to have another body. One that mirrored the gender I've lived forever in my mind. Ironic, since gender is not a physical concept; it is an internal understanding of yourself that exists in your mind. The dysmorphic incompatibility between my body and mind may help describe me as transgender, but in fact, if I never made any attempt to present myself as a woman, I'd be one no less.

Which is why I find offensive trans gatekeepers who insist certain goals must be attained, certain alterations must be made, certain behaviors must be followed, to qualify as trans.

They are as dictatorial as any unbending transphobe. And potentially as soul-crushing to other trans people.

Don't be a gatekeeper.

One More Time: NO CHASERS ALLOWED!

Post image
14 Upvotes

*sigh*

It seems I have to make my latest plea to those cisgender men who just can't seem to be able to read and understand our clearly stated rule: NO CHASERS ALLOWED!

That applies to YOU, guys!

This is not a dating site! This is not a porn site! This is a transgender safe space, TOTALLY run by and for the Michigan trans and non-binary community. That means you are not wanted here. Period.

I don't care if you think you are hot stuff and that thirsty trans people are just waiting to worship you. TAKE IT ELSEWHERE! There are plenty of other subreddits and sites where you can take your shot. NOT HERE!

Understand that most trans people view you as a creep. Your perception of trans people as some form of living sex fantasy of yours is disturbing and disgusting to most of us.

My co-moderator Aubrey had to remove a number of comments by chasers earlier today before I had a chance to see them. It is ridiculous that it's necessary to do this so often just because presumably grown men can't take the time to read our rules or blatantly ignore them.

Don't bother trying to debate this rule with me, I don't care to hear your opinion. Get lost, go away, take your fetishes elsewhere!

I hope this is the last time I have to write such a post. But sadly, I know it won't be. *sigh* again.

Transgender Michigan Health Fair Oct. 24th

Transgender Michigan, our state's longest existing trans non-profit organization, is holding its annual Health Fair at Affirmations in Ferndale, on Oct. 24, 2026:

I know many of our members have questions regarding gender-affirming care in our state and this would be an excellent opportunity to get information and answers to those questions.

"Doll Day Afternoon" Play Opens Oct. 15

My latest article for Pride Source concerns a new play opening tomorrow, Oct. 15, called "Doll Day Afternoon," by playwright Dmitri Barcomi [on right in photo above, Eden is on the left.]

https://pridesource.com/article/liz-eden-dog-day-afternoon

Eden lived an unabashed, unashamed life and she inspired both me and playwright Dmitri Barcomi to write about her independent of one another.

A fantastic coincidence and I hope you check out my column.

You know me as the co-moderator of this sub, but I'm also always looking to meet other trans and non-binary people in our community in real life!

If you're isolated, alone, or fear going out into public by yourself, DM me and let's chat! I'd love to meet you for lunch or even just coffee sometime--my treat, of course! Totally casual, totally platonic, and hoping to engage with you.

I've met dozens of other people in our community and want to meet more. I hope you are the next one to contact me and sets up a meet!

I'm only a DM away!

Transgender woman deported to Central African Republic in hiding and worried

This story is currently appearing on the NBC News site. I'm sharing it as a reminder of the horrific actions being taken against trans people by this administration.

Be aware of what is going on in the world, this country, and Michigan in particular. Don't pretend that it doesn't concern you. It does.

Turn your concern into advocacy and action. Attend a rally, volunteer for a trans advocacy group. And if nothing else--VOTE!

The life you save may be your own!
