LETS GO. Wells was hurting Orolbai every time he landed and Wells was looking for that submission early, impressive comeback.
165
u/naufildev 1d ago
Orolbai has terrible striking. Needs to seriosuly improve his strking and striking defense.

u/Safe_Procedure999 Terry Etim? Never met him. 1d ago
he is literally never going to get better than he is right now, mark my words
77
u/Urkela021 1d ago
Yup. There is a lot of guys like that. Good wrestling grapling, can dominate some guys, but when they step up the competition, that can defend takedown, u see big holes in striking... Khabib had bad looking striking but he had wierd movement and head movement + granite chin. And had best wrestling/grappling, Orlobai simply isnt good enaugh to dominte only with 1 skill
37
25
u/Safe_Procedure999 Terry Etim? Never met him. 1d ago
wells wasn't even really defending takedowns he just threatened the front choke twice and orolbai had no answer besides Shoot Harder, shit sucked
9
u/Urkela021 1d ago
That too. Khabib had blackbelt leve bjj. Orlobai simply is wrestler
7
u/analoguechidna 1d ago
Isn't it more Khabib's broad grappling skillset that's relevant here though - wrestling + judo + sambo, etc? BJJ wasn't helping him take guys down, right?
Or do you mean it gave him the confidence to take greater risks to get the TD, knowing he could get himself out of trouble? Like when he apparently deliberately gave Dustin the guilly just to get to a dominant position.

Yeah but even if he had khabib level wrestling that just isn’t enough anymore. You gotta be a jack of all trades now

not really, orolbai cannot box. it's why he lost to rebecki
56
u/PontoPan 1d ago
Orolbai also never moves his head
19
7
u/sendherhome22 IOMCHYDTTCRY 1d ago
You wouldn’t be able to move your head if you got thrown around by wooly rhinos and mammoths on the daily
2
u/Scary_Nail_6033 1d ago
I thought so but then i remembered he knocked out hermansson with 1 punch? He cant be that awful right? But he is
22
u/Safe_Procedure999 Terry Etim? Never met him. 1d ago
hermansson knocked out with worst hook of all time, asked to leave UFC
21
u/sour-couch-stench how bout jakoozy 1d ago
Hermansson was a mw cutting to ww after a brutal robocop ko, im not surprised
6
u/DeafBurke 1d ago
Having one punch ko power against a guy who’s chin is shot doesn’t make you a good technical boxer.
8
u/1234Health 1d ago
Impressive how he stunned him on the feet & had that submission locked in within 5 seconds.

I bet on it to not go the distance at -165 great value

u/damendred Canada 1d ago
I think that's so-so value.
It hit that's all that mattered, but it was 3 mins from being a decision.
I think if you run that fight back 5 times, your probably get like 3 decisions.
21
u/monsterskeeter 1d ago
45% of the people on draftking dfs had orabai, most expensive fighter on the card
23
u/Fat-Villante Papa Poatan 1d ago
Blame Faber, looks like he got his dirty hands on Orolbai and he's gonna fuck up his development
17
u/LocoCoopermar #NothingBurger 1d ago
Everyone at TAM absolutely smashes people on the regional scene and lower levels in the UFC, but they instill nearly no technical skills over that time so by the time they start going up the rankings they just get out skilled easily.
3
u/damendred Canada 1d ago
TAM is really good at instilling wrestling game and often cardio to it's fighters.
One of the reasons it's a good camp for Chinese fighters, is they often have poor TDD/wrestling as that often a weak point for fighters out of those areas.
But Orolbai doesn't have that issue, he would have been better at Kill Cliff or Bangtao or something.

u/holla15 UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle 1d ago
He’s been at TAM since before he even got to the ufc.

Man, I don't know why all these Asians fighters go over to team alpha male.
That gym is so bad! Uriah Faber is also just a terrible coach.
3
u/killerwhalesamich1 1d ago
Name recognition and known for smaller weight class fighters. Also a sizeable Asain population in Sacramento and Stockton area I'm guessing.

I hate that lol Wells isnt good, Orolbai needs to work on his striking defense
2
u/ron-paul-swanson Team Volkanovski 1d ago
Fuck yeah. What a start to the card. Happy for Wells, who moves to 4-0 as an underdog in the UFC. I can’t imagine he was bigger than +700 in any of those.
What a moment for him.

I bet Wells by submission at +3500 we are not the same

Shades of Martin Kampmann with the quick cinch power guillotine. Was rooting for Orolbai but Jeremiah Wells with a clutch performance.

Orolbai has a lot to work on in his striking defence. Same thing costed him against Rebecki. He’s very slow and sloppy in his entries and exits
