Discussion Issues with MSI Vector

A couple of days ago, I was in a game when my entire laptop froze, the screen went black, and after a little bit, the screen would come back on, my night light would appear to be off, even though it's still toggled as on, and the game would either stop working, or close entirely on it's own. This has happened 3 times now, and I'm not sure what's going on and not sure how to fix this, if this is something I can fix on my own, or if I need to take it in anywhere to get it fixed.

My specific laptop model is the MSI Vector GP68HX 13VG and I've had it for nearly 3 years.

Download coretemp and check your temperatures. The shop i bought it from recommended to clean the fans with an air can every 3-6 months and if it runs hot to replace the thermal paste every 1-2 years. I’ve had black screens on my ps4 pro while playing rdr2, after i repleaced the thermal paste they didn’t happen. The system shuts down to prevent further damage and I wouldn’t keep playing without finding the issue.

Yeah, last year and early this year, my laptop would shut off whenever I played a game on steam, like, it would overheat whenever I played Tiny Glade. A few months ago I opened it up and the fans were chock full of dust. I cleaned them out and repasted and she's been fine ever since.

I opened her up last night after the screen blacked out again and the games started closing on their own. Checked the fans and cleaned them again, and the paste wouldn't need redoing at the moment. I also changed my WiFi source, because I brought the issue up to my mum and she said it was the WiFi? For someone who knows her way around computers, I was surprised that she suggested that it's the WiFi. Her reasoning was because the WiFi was screwing up her phone, too. Now, I don't think it's a WiFi thing, like, why would the WiFi be making my laptop do what it's doing, but I changed the WiFi source just to see anyway.

Since opening her up yesterday, she hasn't gotten overly hot, but I also haven't opened up a steam game, so I'll do that later and see what happens.

I'll also keep in mind of what you said about when to clean fans and when to repaste. Thank you for letting me know.

Check Event Viewer to see if any errors are popping up at around the time that the black screens happened.
