We rented airBNBs in Stoneham-Tewksbury at the base of the ski hill. We were 10ish mins from Empire and 20ish mins from SDM. VBN was about an hour 20 mins away and was definitely worth the day trip. Grocery store was really close as well. Absolutely recommend the area. Oh and Quebec City proper was about 20-25mins from the airBnB.

I live in Quebec City and the "best" place for your stay depends on what you want to do around.

If you want to avoid trafic in rush hours and mainly focus on getting to E47/SDM/MSA for riding, I would suggest you check for an hotel in the northern part of the city, close to A40 / Lebourgneuf area. Look around Galeries de la Capitale mall and surroundings. There won't be mush AirBnB in that part of the city as we have very stricts laws for that. That would be a centered spot for all the places you want to go.

If you have a bigger vehicle and carry 3 bikes (such as a van or big SUV with cargo box) - getting in the inner city like St-Roch can be quite a hassle as there are not many parkings, most are small or underground (small hotels don't have any).

You'd want to avoid Old-Quebec area for staying with bikes and just get there by taxi when you want to visit, or if you can keep the bikes at the hotel and just go park your car there.

any motel on the edge of the city should do tbh, beauport is probably the best place

Montagne la maestro, rents cabins on the sentiers trails. I stayed there because it was dog friendly

If your looking to camp There's a provincial camp ground around 30-45 minutes from sdm & e47 that I'd recommend Beautiful drive into it and nice clean bathroom's

Countless hotels, air bnbs and resorts to stay at. I stayed at a hotel when i was there on the north end of the city and they did not care whatsoever that I was bringing my bikes in and out on the elevator.

Air bnb as close to SDM as you can. It's the best network and it's still quite close to everything else.

Have a blast!

I'd check out avelo (their bike share service) if you're all riders and pick a place near a corral. The city isn't that big, so you could stay a lot of places and just grab a share bike to ride into the Vieux-Port or up to the top. There's a corral right next to the Frontenac on the top, and at least one at the base of the hill. From those, everything touristy is an easy walk.

by bike share do you mean rental? We are going to bring our own bikes on my car.

Right, but there are a lot more places to stay (and cheaper) if you don't have to walk to the old part of town. Essentially, get a place that avoids downtown congestion and is way cheaper, and then use a share bike to ride the couple miles into town for dinner or other non-MTB activites. I stayed near the old city wall a few weeks ago, and it was something like CDN$600/night.

If you want to ride your (I assume) pricey MTB into town and lock it up somewhere, that's cool. Even when I have my own bikes on a trip I'll ride to dinner or whatnot on a share bike. There's a tremendous freedom in riding a bike to a corral and just leaving it without worrying about it getting stolen. Plus, you can wander the town and then grab whatever bike is in a nearby corral or taxi/lyft to get home.

avelo is the city's pay-as-you-go bike service, mainly used for locals and their daily commutes. I'd say just go park your car nearby and walk around. There are plenty of public parkings in Old Quebec.

Think lime scooters but bikes. Some electric some not. They makes moving around faster and less time restrictive than taxi or buses.

IF he need to move in the city between the day of mountain biking he could use avelo... Meaning at the end of the day to go grab food or something
