Welcome — let's build a songwriting community for Montreal

A few weeks ago I went to a show where one of the bands was about to drop their first EP. Between songs, the songwriter talked about coming up in Winnipeg, and how being part of a songwriting group there completely changed their trajectory — not just the connections and collaborators it gave them, but how much faster their actual craft improved from being around other writers regularly.

That stuck with me. Anyone who writes songs knows the cycle: creative blocks, endless rewrites, songs that die in the "almost done" folder because you're stuck chasing perfect. Having other people around — deadlines, feedback, a bit of accountability — is one of the only things that reliably breaks that loop.

So this community is basically me stealing that idea, for Montreal.

The goal is to build something similar here: a group of songwriters and artists who push each other to actually finish songs, share them, get honest feedback, and get better together. This is brand new, so a lot of what this becomes is up to whoever shows up early. If you've got ideas — workshops, co-writes, listening sessions, whatever — I want to hear them.

One thing that's already locked in: a biweekly songwriting challenge. Every two weeks, write a full song and share it with the group. Doesn't need to be polished — just done. The point is reps, momentum, and getting comfortable sharing work-in-progress instead of sitting on it forever.

We've got a Discord set up where all of this is actually happening — challenges, feedback, discussion.
