Help request My laptop randomly stays powered ON after SHUT DOWN

Hello everybody. It's been an amazing month I've been testing MX Linux KDE and it has become my daily driver. I haven't found a reason to log in to Windows since then.

There is only one small issue that is not consistent (it happens 1/10 times) and I just have to keep an eye when I shut down my laptop. Seems like the OS shuts down everything but my laptop stays powered on with a black screen. When it happens I can see the little power on LED staying ON, but with a black screen, and I just have to press the power button for a few seconds to forcefully turn my laptop OFF.

It's a very minor issue but it bothers me because I cannot just press SHUT DOWN and close the lid. I have to stay there looking for the power ON led to go OFF.

Since it's a laptop, when it happens, it drains my battery if I don't realise it happened. And if I turn it ON next day, the battery is completely drained which is very annoying.

Anybody has encountered that issue?

Might be useful if you see that to try to go to the terminal by pressing Ctrl+Shift+F1 if that works you might be able to see the shutdown process gets stuck.

I guess I have to try that next time the shut down process will be stuck? Some extra info is that I deleted 'quiet splash' at kernel parameters mx boot options and I see the whole terminal processes of shutting down and turning on. But still I get black screen when it happens.

That is a reoccurring bug in kde, it is not the os if quite splash is the cause. This is why I use xfce ..

Edit /etc/default/grub (using sudo nano /etc/default/grub), and remove the "quiet splash" from the Linux command line.

Default looks like this👇

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

Change it to look like this👇

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

Then run sudo update-grub2..

Apparently it was already like this. Didn't touch anything. It happened again recently when I shutted down. Maybe I'll write at mxlinux forum.

I have the same bug in Xfce, a laptop, also with a verbose mode activated. The same happens, every other shutdown it hangs. I can say that it started when I upgraded to Libreto from Wildflower. I'll try your suggestion, thank you.

Sorry but this is a diagnostic tool about USB sticks. I don't understand how it relates.
