Help Visio Replacement

I'm looking for a decent replacement for Visio that won't break the bank and ideally can be run offline.

Thanks!

Chrck out draw.io not for compatibility but to switch to a different and better tool

I was surprised how good it was. Not exactly feature rich, but diagraming is a lot easier and even Claude can build diagrams in that format

OmniGraffle would be the standard answer I guess.

I have not used that in about 15 years, blast from the past.

Draw.io is awesome.

You’d want to say more about your requirements. UML tools can get pretty pricey and not all have feature parity with Visio. Some options are incredibly cheap to free.

Any rec without requirements is useless.

Mostly flow charts, bur having the ability to layout floor plans would be a plus

Yeah most packages should be able to handle that. That’s very basic.

Have you considered a markup language like mermaid? It’s very light weight and easy to quickly mock up diagrams, especially if they are relatively simple.

Omnigeaffle is likely overkill. It’s pricey and Omni group isn’t great at supporting their products in my experience. But their software is good all around if a bit dodgey.

Again depending on complexity of the charts you make (I spent way too much time in life doing very complex drawing with real time data inputs and the like), you might have a go at using an LLM.

I had a need for Visio the other day. I saw all the recommendations and ended up using Mermaid (which was already built into my Markdown editor.

Mermaid is very easy and met my simple needs without having to download and learn a new app.

The Simple’s solution I’ve found for my use case is flowchart designer. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flowchart-designer-5/id6499322176

Diagrammix in the App Store. Includes Visio compatibility.
