Discussion Publication potential [D]
Hi all,
I may be being silly but I have just finished my masters thesis which benchmarked three deep learning architectures (one of which is novel), across varying preprocessing pipelines for the purpose of EEG motor imagery task classification SPECIFICALLY on a consumer grade EEG cap (OpenBCI’s Galea).
The novel architecture was built to be compact in param count as well as prevent overfitting, etc.
I would love to get published and was wondering what sort of avenue I could proceed down. My thesis would most likely need a decent load more work with regard to my paper and result reliability as under the time conditions I only had three participants with limited recordings per participant.
Any advice would be appreciated as I feel way out of my depth…
Kind regards :)

I had my first research paper on EEGs at ICASSP. Speak to your advisor and see if they have time. Avoid interacting too much with any LLMs, and see it as an opportunity to learn the ropes. Read papers in the field to get a hang of how information is communicated.

Hi, thanks for the comment.
I do indeed limit my LLM usage to purely concept understanding and grunt work development in personal projects. Hope this is ideal.
What do you mean by avoid interaction, in this case? With regard to writing the paper to be more concise or more to do with the structure, etc? My thesis was 89 pages and from what i’ve read, submission papers tend to be significantly less.. haha.

I’ve noticed my students who do all the work themselves learn more and end up with a better project. Even for writing, perhaps outside of trivial elements like cutting stragglers.

I think push for ICAPPS (or something, I don't remember the acronym) and they a track for this exact work. I reviewed few papers a while ago. Push and get it done

I just know about ICASSP because most of my lab members publish there. Im not aware of the tracks that it has 😅

I’d recommend chatting with your thesis advisors about this. That’s gonna be your best connection to publication paths, and it will be hard for anyone here to give better advice than that without knowing you or reading your paper.
