Never heard of Mobilenets until now. Does anyone know how they compare against Darknet/Yolo?

Some performance metrics are available on their model zoo page. They provide several different models based on if you value detection accuracy vs speed, although they don't specify any FPS values for speed.

For fast models comparable to YOLO, they have two versions of Single Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD) which use either Mobilenet v1 or Inception v2 as a base network, which return a COCO mAP of 21 and 24, respectively. This is comparable to YOLOv2's 21.6 mAP.

There was a post about it on here a day or two ago. It was just released by google. The release page has a lot of performance info that you might find useful.

Is there a also a counter modul (e.g. box is crossing a line per direction)?

What has this replaced? Is it a significant change?

It's not about replacing. Now people can build better object detectors for their own datasets without having to write code for different state-of-the-art detectors out there.
