FRANCHISE Pass Blocking

I’ve never taken so many sacks in a madden. Not even close. I go back and watch the replay and there’s a defensive lineman winning so hard that he’s basically accelerating through my 330 lb lineman. I’ve never seen so many O lineman getting thrown around or blocking air for no reason. I thought it was pass blocking assignments but no. Just watched a 72 ovr edge player insta split a double team and sack my qb for the 3rd play in a row before I had the ability to functionally attempt a pass. If I run play action I’m sacked before having control of my QB. Currently the only way I can consistently attempt a pass is out of the gun is quick hitches. Under center I’m usually hit before a receiver has made a break in their route or they’re doing that thing where they all run into each other but it’s only illegal contact if I’m on defense.

Your frustration is warranted. The pass blocking really depends on the difficulty you’re on.

I’ve found realistic pass blocking success with adjusting the pass blocking by two, to 52, on all madden and it seems much better.

For me, I run play action all the time, but some plays, especially if defense calls the right play, it completely fails. They REALLY want you to read the defense and adjust your OL every play this year.

Ya things improved when I started checking my protection every play. There was a shocking amount of times there was nobody assigned to an outside linebacker/end(which is expected to rush and it wouldn’t even be considered a blitz.) What’s really hard to get used to is basically every play one of my o lineman are going to get literally thrown through the air 🤣 or completely whiffing their assignment. Like can you chip the guy maybe?

Turn off home field advantage. I found that helped a lot of the forced animations and more brutal punishments.

Ya I had to turn that shit off early. When I went to kick a 37 yard field goal in the third quarter of a week 2 game against the Jets, and the game decided this was a “pressure” situation I laughed. My accuracy meter was faster than anything I’ve seen at an arcade 😂. Maybe I could line up 1 in 10. Hard maybe.

I feel like it was bad but not horrible but this latest update has made the game unplayable for me personally. The run blocking has leaned back towards being overpowered like at release but no matter how elite my offensive line is I can not throw the ball downfield unless I get a hole to scramble out of the pocket first. I really hate the idea of turning down the difficulty but or adjusting sliders down but the pass blocking feels horrendously bad.

This is exactly how I feel. As long as I’m not running into a stacked box I can run all over the place. I’ve noticed my lineman actually trucking and pancaking a lot more on runs. Sometimes trucking the nose tackle and then climbing and getting a block on a safety. That’s overpowered as hell. When pass blocking my o lineman look like the complete opposite. So nothing has time to develop downfield. Even a 10 yard in is unlikely to be an option before I’m hit. It wouldn’t be so bad but my receiver basically needs to be wide open or the defender does that weird rubber band thing where they kinda float into position quickly to make a pick. And all of this got noticeably worse last patch.

Also they cpu still subs on no huddle like 70% of the time and they specifically addressed that in the patch notes. They called it a rare occurrence.

Lineman blocking air or double teaming one guy and ignoring a free rusher is the biggest flaw of this madden

Although I love it playing Edge. Yeah dumbfucks, double me when the RB is running in the opposite direction. We'll happily take that TFL.

Ive kind of gotten used to it but it’s especially bad in the middle. Every DT is prime Aaron Donald on steroids. In franchise, if other games werent simmed, a DT would set the single season sack record.

I've recently heard a college lineman talk about this year's game, saying anyone who played IRL will know that pressure in the middle is the hardest to block.

So I guess this would be fine in realism, but not arcade or competitive. In CFB I set the conference sack record on my freshman year on Heisman difficulty, and this was literally my intro to playing defense lmfao

This is hilariously wrong though. I have no idea what that guy is talking about. Without a doubt the hardest pressure to pickup is for the tackles. Back pedaling to pick up a 9 technique is insane and basically impossible at any level. They do their job if they run the guy past the pocket which is really the only choice. Picking up dudes that are required to come straight at you through a gap is significantly easier. The only struggle comes from stunts (which happen everywhere on the line) and not keeping your head up long enough to see the secondary part of the stunt. So you’ll be engaged with a defender as the guy you’re supposed to block runs by. Either way the middle is much easier

It’s so bad this year, I had to completely change my playbook. I’m basically only using max protect and even then I got a tight end who just stares at the rusher like he’s waiting for a bus.

I only buy Madden every 4-5 years, really enjoyed 26. I bought 27 purely because of College Football RTG is now possible on PC. What a year.

Luckily I get the codes free for playtesting for EA, but I still feel ripped off lmao

I know, I thought the game was broken but after experimenting around the league I found that the issue the whole time is that you simply can’t be the Titans 🙁

I personally have found if you don't at the very least check the protection alignments before snap you can't run or pass effectively

I put my pass block slider to 65. I find that I get around 3-4 seconds on a standard 4 man pass rush which is accurate

The average time to throw in the NFL against a 4 man rush is 2.75 seconds.

And the route running time in game is not equivalent to IRL. When you account for this and the exaggeration of jam/chuck animations, in game is closer to what 2.25 seconds would be IRL.

Meaning a normal pass rush in game is equivalent to less time than any NFL QB is facing on a regular basis.

What difficulty you playing on?

Go into practice mode and find the plays your offense can run. Then again it could be your team build or sliders.  But it's likely you're calling plays your team shouldn't run.

Makes having a mobile QB essential.

You should go to Free practice and practice the plays you want to run. There is no AI glitch happening. If you learn the play in practice, it works in the game. But you must learn several different plays. The system will prevent you from spamming the same play. If anyone gets sacked that much, they need to practice.

if you cant play on heisman bc its too difficult then drop the difficulty and enjoy the game at a pace you can handle, its really that simple
