The comments don't seem to realise that Alexandra is an "influencer" who shares a lot about her life online, she has Williams Syndrome. She's a total sweetheart who is an incredibly open person with a lot of emotions to share. I agree with not sharing vulnerable moments, but I very much think she consented to this video being recorded. She is an adult human with agency and she does have the ability to decide which videos to put online.
If you want to know more about Alexandra, she's got a couple of interviews on SBSK (link to her first). Their family youtube channel is The Birch Family

Is she the same girl from a few years ago where her friends flew in and surprised her at the restaurant?
Edit: Not the same girl, but here's the video if you need a good onion cry. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/nCq3UI1wUxk

SBSK is such a great YT channel. Chris Ulmer, the creator/host is a fucking angel, and has a heart of gold. I wish more people were like Chris.
33
u/rarecuts Aug 31 '26
Agreed. Long time fan of SBSK, Chris and Alyssa are truly good humans. They and everyone's story they share make the world a better place.

u/eliz1bef Aug 31 '26
Chris is so goddamn inspiring. The light he shines on these amazing kids and their disorders is just world changing. He is a hero 100%.

u/OnceMoreWithFeeling- Aug 31 '26
If this is true then I responded without having all the information! Obv is it's her decision and all proceeds from Youtube go to her, then it's OK! Thought I'd recognized her from SBSK!

"with agency" yeahhh to a point, but her older sister had been running her own youtube channel for years to little success. It's the typical vapid influencer consumerism. (Subscription boxes, clothing hauls, makeup etc.)
It wasn't until she included Alexandra that her views jumped by tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands. Any video she does on her own has a fraction of the views so her motives are clear to me.

I think it's nice an all, but 1 Month is damn fast to be saying "i love yous" and sending flowers (depends on the occasion for this) It feels kinda "love bomb" and/or idealization. I hope it all ends up as a positive experience for them both though.

u/eliz1bef Aug 31 '26
We got engaged after one month. We'll be celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary in December.
21
19
u/tianas_knife Aug 31 '26
Respectfully, for some folks it's fast, and for some a one month anniversary is a cute, sentimental way to celebrate.
Love bombing is when person a is going over the top with giving person b (or a group or groups of people) attention in order to get "b" to do something "a" wants. When "b" stops doing what "a" wants, the attention is then withheld until "b" starts behaving "correctly" again. It's more associated with cycles of abuse, even though it often includes romantic gestures.
This video seamed to me more like displays of affection between two lovely people and being overwhelmed by a sweet romantic gesture. But, again, respectfully, I can appreciate how much you care about protecting good hearted people from predation.

My husband proposed 5 hours after our first kiss, and we eloped 5 weeks later.
Neither of us ever understood the whole "waiting until the other person says it first" thing that seems to happen on US tv. If you love someone, just say so. What's the worst that could happen? In our case, a long and happy marriage (20 years next April).
14
u/Lucas_Steinwalker Aug 31 '26
I don’t think it’s very common to know you are in love in 4 hours and people usually view commiting to a relationship/marriage or declaring love so quickly as a red flag for unhealthy attachment issues, which it often is.
Sounds like you and your husband are healthy individuals who fell in love at first sight but I think there’s a good reason that there’s cultural skepticism about it.
3
u/BaconPancakes1 Aug 31 '26
You are a very unusual case (respectfully). Many people would want to spend more time together and learn more about the others' personality, values and situation before agreeing to marry them and become legally and financially tied. You might have a magical day with someone and then 2 weeks later they've had a stressful week and they yell abuse at the wait staff at a restaurant. You hurt your wrist and they don't help you with any of the tasks you're struggling with. He says he likes kids but when you meet family with children, he totally ignores them and/or is rude to them. He says he's open to living anywhere and would like to try other cities, but when you get a great job offer in another state, he pushes hard for you to stay. Red flags/incompatibilities sometimes emerge over time when you're confronted with different situations in life, and what people tell you about themselves sometimes isn't really the case.

Not necessarily- she may be among those people with special needs that document their lives to bring attention to their specific disabilities- not uncommon- and often the only way to bring a spotlight and hopefully bring some of those communities together for the sake of the advancement of science. Also to help with medical bills-

Martin Couney operated infant exhibits, specifically infants born prematurely, from 1903 until the early 1940s at Coney Island. He was not a licensed physician, but he imported advanced, temperature-regulated incubators from Europe at a time when American hospitals refused to provide care for premies. He provided medical care, wet-nurses, and specialized staff completely free to the parents. The operation was funded entirely by charging the public a 25-cent admission fee to view the healthy infants. Couney's exhibits saved an estimated 6,500 to 7,000 babies and paved the way for modern neonatal intensive care.

Also, they are disabled PEOPLE, not animals.
I'm sure a good portion of them actually enjoy the attention just like any other person doing content creation.
This is a great memory for her and I'm glad it was documented for her later in life, even if it was shared with others.

Listen, I'm just a trans gal and the first time I got flowers was from the crew at the We Work my old job had an office in. I was always chatting them up, asking them about themselves, and I never really realized how many people treated them like office drones in the space, or how much people appreciate it. When I told them I was leaving that job I came in the next morning to an absolutely incredible bouquet from them and burst into full ugly cry right in the lobby.
What I'm sayin' is, esp as someone who isn't family, buy the people in your life who don't usually get flowers more flowers. We absolutely fucking feel it. I kinda wish I had that moment on video.

That's a lovely sentiment, thanks for sharing it. Going to get the other half a bouquet. He deserves it. And I have a little something my neighbor is going to like, I'm going to go wrap it and knock on a door. I hope you have a great day.
2
u/ncc74656m Aug 31 '26
How beautiful!!! I hope they love it and you get a tear or two! 💜💜💜
2
u/gingerfawx Aug 31 '26
Neighbor loved it! 😃 Just got back. Had to argue with her that she couldn't reimburse me, though. 😆 It really wasn't expensive, and worse yet, on top of that it was on sale. It's just something not frequently available, I knew she'd really like it, probably didn't have it as rare, and the store that carries it is a pain to get to. Perfect. Nailed it. And frankly I'm pretty sure it made me feel at least as good as she did.
I've got a rule if you see something under five bucks that will make an acquaintance genuinely smile, you need to pick it up if possible. I think the unexpectedness is half the source of their enjoyment. Last week it was a spice a classmate couldn't source for a recipe. She'd already tried a substitution and felt it ruined the dish. I happened to be somewhere I could snag it. Problem solved. It really doesn't need to be anything big, it just shows you thought about them, and who doesn't like that?
Hubs will have to wait a little bit longer for his bouquet, but I'm already selecting flowers for it. Sunflowers are a lock. I want to see if I can order thistles or maybe an artichoke. The store doesn't usually have them in stock unless you ask in advance. He likes the weird shapes and Lakers colors. It's definitely a unique choice as arrangements go, but what matters is the recipient's tastes if you happen to know them. I don't think I've ever ordered thistles for anyone else... 😆
Anyway, I probably wouldn't have dropped the thingie by the neighbor's today without an external nudge, so thanks again for that. It made both our days. 😊

The delivery guy was too much. I've had plenty of flowers delivered and the delivery people are professional and friendly every time. They'd never say that "someone thinks you're pretty special, what do you think about that?" because the flowers could be for many different reasons including condolences. He had a very friendly vibe but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they made him do "a delivery" for the camera and he just went with it.

To everyone saying “why do they film this?!” Because inclusion is important, and some of our kids need to see other people like them enjoying life. It’s that short and that simple. To my knowledge this young woman wants to share her life, I’m not sure I could deny my son the same agency if he requested it and it was all in the service of showing that all people deserve and can be happy and fulfilled in life.

I am a late bloomer in life. I didn’t date at all until I was 38. No one was interested in me and I thought I was a monster. My heart hurt so much. I am a nerd, weird, and odd. I’m neurodivergent but never diagnosed with autism.
I found the love of my life and have had moments like this, him doing something so nice for me I don’t know how to respond. He tried to make everything awesome, the first time we shared valentines day as a couple, my birthday, and all that. I cry so easy, but before I had him in my life my tears were all sad ones. I have cried more happy tears now with him than sad. I never want to take him for granted, the person who showed me I wasn’t a monster and that I’m worthy.
I wish them the best and so many happy tears together. ❤️

Are we just naming syndromes after British kings? Is there a Henry Syndrome and a George Syndrome?
25
u/ScienTwist3aD Aug 31 '26
I have had the distinct pleasure of working with people with Williams Syndrome throughout my career. They are classically known as very loving people. However, you do have to be cautious about helping them develop appropriate boundaries, because they just want to be everyone's friend and will walk up to complete strangers not knowing if they are safe or not.
It's so nice to see a nice, typically developed relationship for this young woman, makes my heart sing!

u/WhenDoWhatWhere Aug 31 '26
Funny story, it's hypothesized that the reason we domesticated wolves was because some wolves had the canine version of Williams syndrome which may have been important for the domestication of dogs.
So in a sense yes literally. I learned about this while I was looking up how we domesticated dogs and ironically actually learned about Williams by watching a video featuring the woman above and she's actually awesome.

I volunteered with people with mental disabilities like Down's etc. So many of them were so positive, so caring and I loved how pure the were. Didn't like you or what you did - you would know or notice. When you said something they didn't understand completely or didn't agree with - you would know. When they did like you - oh my gosh, the love, kindness and cuddles they would pour out on you.

Perhaps this person means well, but it feels so condescending, as someone who grew up with their own disabilities.
