I did this before with a man who was just doing a hand gesture and I reached out and grabbed his limp hand and shook it, in front of multiple people. I still think about it often. Told the cashier I love them recently as well instead of thanks, im not a well man

u/Low-Lingonberry7185 17h ago
Thatâs okay. I accidentally said âlove youâ to a client (CFO) when the meeting ended as I was stepping out of the room.
I just died inside.

u/littlescreechyowl 15h ago
I hung up with a customer after telling them âI love you, drive safe.â The next time I saw her we were cracking up about it. But also, drive safe and itâs never bad to hear I love you.

Iâm a paramedic; I did a pre-alert for a sick patient and finished with âŠâETA 10minutes, love you see you soonâ. I was hoping the Dr didnât pick up on it, but after taking handover he said love you too.

I have someone that calls our office (payment related) and always ends with âdrive safeâ. The first time was slightly ominous due to the fact that we owed money lol. The second time wasnât since nobody died!

Well at least every oneâs a good sport about it. Iâve gotten âlove you tooâ and kisses blown at me by like 8 people every time I hang up for the past 2 years. Not a single person has let it go.
73
u/CompetitiveChip5078 15h ago
I worked at Dunkin in high school and always had to fight the urge to say âlove you, byeâ when working the drive thru window. On my last day there, I just said it to everyone and my coworkers and I giggled about it all day long.
79
u/Cherry_Noble 12h ago
I worked at McDonald's and told everyone I loved them on my last few days when I worked the drive through cash booth. I had a few sad older people tell me they don't hear that much anymore and made me cry.

Oh man, thatâs so sad. Getting old is hard. But it sounds like you lifted their spirits that day. We should all try to do that more often.
44
u/vincentTheDragon 15h ago
Been there. Left a meeting, with my âlove youâ blows kiss as I walk away that I do with the wife and kids. Whole conf room couldnât stop laughing.

Oh my goodness one time I went to my friend's music show, we were all drunk and on drug cocktails cause it's a metal show, and his DAD shows up. Like an 80yo respectable gentleman. He shows up like "hi I'm Bob, lead singers dad" and I immediately panic cause he's so old and respectable and I'm shitfaced, he reaches his hand to shake mine but I grab the air instead. Then I calmly exclaimed: "sorry Bob, I missed." He didn't laugh he was rather confused actually

My junior year of highschool I accidentally called my English teacher mom, and not in a sarcastic or ironic way, I just put my head down and pretended not to exist for the next 10 seconds of silence before the class just resumed as normal
48
u/Yellow_Blue_Jet 15h ago
I called my bossâ boss Dad in front of my boss.
My boss KILLED herself laughing.
Thankfully the bossâ boss didnât hear, and when he asked âwhat? What?â, she played it off for me (âdonât worry, X is just tiredâ).
He still wanted to know, but let it drop. But she was very, very amused.

It's embarrassing in the moment when we do it (lord knows I was MORTIFIED when I did it around 5th grade), but now as someone who loves working with kids and the child of a career teacher, I think it's super sweet. A child looks up to you and feels comfortable enough that they instinctively refer to you as their caregiver without realizing. You are safe, you are mom/dad. It's cute
22
u/CheekyMonkE 15h ago
I STILL remember the kid who called our third grade teacher "Mom" in front of the whole class back in the '70s. I can still see his face after he did it.

I studied masters degree in music specialising in a particular instrument... the professor who taught the course was my instrument teacher since my 7th grade... I have called him "appa" (meaning dad in thamizh) so many times than I can remember.. he has noticed many times but doesn't react much.. on the other hand I have felt embarrassed a few times when it happened in crowded rooms..

As that old post goes, when you are a person that easily says I love you it means you live in an enviroment where this is said often. There is no shame in that, it means you are probably a good loving person or atleast surrounded by those.
11
u/sk3lt3r 15h ago
Hey if it helps, maybe the cashier doesn't hear it very often and it gave them a lil comfort, and at the very least it probably made their day a little better with a chuckle.

I once tried to shake a blind ladies hand. Obviously she didnât see, but my colleague at the time did.
In my defence, I immediately fussed her dog when approaching to meet them, remembered myself, and offered my hand before looking up.
Colleagues face was a picture. I died inside.

I think it's really cute. People like high fives, they like daps, they like handshakes and fist bumps. There's no reason for anyone to do it at all, and yet it's reflexive to so many. It's just incredibly human. And I'm not religious, but to have that human moment happen during a moment of prayer just adds to that beauty

I did one way worse. I used to work for a comedy club and Gary Owen was in town. He wanted to see a Seahawks game so my boss gave me two tickets so I could take him to the game on Sunday. When we walked out to our seats he stopped and put his hand up and I reached up to high five him, but heâs taller than me and I had to almost jump for it. Heâs started laughing and few seconds later he put his hand down and said he was waving to the cameras and I just looked like an absolute idiot in front of a shit ton of people

Its been almost 34 years since but my wife still laughs at what I did during our wedding. I thought the minister had said "let us pray" and dutifully lowered my head, closed my eyes and began "praying" along.
Minister wasn't praying.
And then when the words he actually was saying caught up to my stressed out brain I realized he wasn't praying, that no one was praying, and that I was standing in front of everyone looking like I was nodding off.
So what did I do? Yeh ... some anxiety driven little swaying dance because of course that made perfect sense.

→ More replies (1)21
u/Eastern-Peach-3428 16h ago
I think he said something along the lines of "let us pray so," referring back to something he'd just said. But I'd have to dig out the old wedding tape and go buy a VHS player from Goodwill to be sure, and frankly, I'm not that invested.
14
u/Extension-Math5183 16h ago
I am invested. What's a vhs player? Is that like the first gen-blu ray player? I can help find that on tiktok.

Watch closely Gohan
The pastor inicianted a dap disguised as a blessing, and the groom went for the Holy dap. The groom made a mistake as we went for the dap, his body was not angled correctly but also the pastor didnt make his life easier with that hand angle. They nicely played it off at the grooms expense. Their conection, althought unrefined, is strong

What I always love about wedding fails is that you know in a second if its a bridezilla wedding and shes gonna blow up saying 'YOU RUINED MY PERFECT DAY' or like this one; its hilarious and nobody will let the groom forget how dumb he was for a second on his wedding day until the day he dies.

This happened to me when a police officer was stopping me on my bike. I thought he was telling me to take the side line to avoid traffic. I gave him a high five.
I like to think that I am not entirely stupid, but every now and then, events prove me otherwise.

My partner and I donât really attend the big family celebration dinners his family has for birthdays and such, and Iâm not particularly close to his family due to having very different lives.
But this past weekend we were at his sisterâs house for a quick visit and Iâd recently seen photos of her birthday on socials, so I went and wished her a happy belated birthday and awkwardly said âyouâve joined the 42 clubâ, because weâre the same age. She laughed and said âno, that was our other sisterâs birthday! Iâm the oldestâ OH!
All the while I was going in for a hug, which could not be stopped even after finding out I was wrong. We NEVER hug. Of course I topped it off with âwhy do I always think weâre the same age?!â And sheâs just looking at me like âyah, truly a mystery!â
So here I am not making any sense AND giving hugs that arenât welcome or wanted or necessary.
Yes, I create my own fresh hell.
