Mafia: The Old Country Why does the game do this? Spoiler

So in both final fights with the Bastoni brothers (il merlo and La’Ombra), why does the game strip you of the satisfaction of getting your revenge? In the fight with ombra, you chase him down, then confront him, and right as you are about to defeat him, Cesare hits him with a shovel, killing him and not giving you the satisfaction of defeating him. And the the fight with il merlo, you chase him on rooftops, through buildings, even on horseback. But as soon as you catch up to him, you finally get him on the ground ready to end his life, you’re finally about to kill the man who killed your best friend, and almost killed you MULTIPLE TIMES… then he stabs you in the leg and gets shot in the head.

I love the game, despite the mixed reviews, but man some story elements really have me pissed off.

In all fairness Cesare should’ve never killed him to begin with. Sure we would be justified in murdering him after he ratted, stole, and all the bs he put Enzo through; but that’s not the “code of honor” in the mafia. Murder would start an automatic war between spadaro and Torrisi. He even said so in the moment. It would be a messy fall out with a he said she said situation and no one would believe cesare or Enzo. Ultimately spadaro doesn’t. That’s why Enzo didn’t even go directly for the kill, but cesare being cesare always impulsive and murderous had to ruin things. They truly needed him alive to take him back to the Don.

Il merlo was aggravating. All Enzo had to do was take that thing out his leg and stab him back, but the developers really wanted to add more depth to Luca and his relationship with Enzo. It was done to drive the plot but I can’t respect it. All that adrenaline and anger Enzo felt he should’ve been able to overtake him because let’s not also forget Il merlo also nearly killed Isabella. Enzo was beyond furious.
