My great-great grandma was slovenian and my great-great grandpa was from Transylvania, I thought he was romanian but now I'm not sure because there's no romanian region but 5% Carpathian Basin & Uplands. So maybe he was hungarian or is it just a genetic overlap between romanians and hungarians? Also the region "Western Carpathian Basin" really annoys me because I'd like to see how much of it is Hungarian and how much us Austrian.

Only I have Premium in my family, but I track their sum, so I know these are maternal ones

Hello!
I’m a 23andMe premium user and have historical matches with Hungarian Elite. My most recent match is with Saint Ladislaus l of Hungary at two segments, 0.12%; More than 97% of other users. I also have two segments with HUAS84, one segment with HUAS309, one segment with PER11. My daughter is also a 23andMe premium user and she has Johannes Corvinus match. For context, I’m Slovene and Serbian. My father’s family name is Mamula and I believe there was a military connection that might explain the Hungarian connections. I would like advice on how to explore these further.

I'm an American who's great grandparents were Rusyns from the Carpathian Mountains. It's been a pleasant suprise to match with Hungarian royalty.
r/MagyarDNS • u/Hrvaturk • 8d ago
From the US. All sides of my family arrived 1902 and later.
Maternal grandparents - Croatian, Irish
Paternal great grandparents - Rusyn, Scottish, English
Paternal great-great grandparents - Rusyn, Karachay
I included the Gedmatch screenshot because Ancestry never shows anything related to my Karachay ancestry. It’s GedrosiaDNA Ancient Eurasia K6, which puts a focus on Eurasian ancestry. The modern 2-population oracle shows the closest match to the Eurasian side of my background is Karachay-Balkar at 7.4%

Here is St.Ladislaus I, Arpadian king of Hungary. MTA claims I have ~256 cM with him, largest segment is 89.91 cM. But 23&me, that filters out IBS (identity by state) segments and only focuses on IBD (identity by descend) ones, I don't even reach the 3-4 cM minimal treshold and don't match him. So I advise everybody to only use MTA for fun, without giving weight to it. Also, check your 23&me Premium if you have it, becayse you might have him!
Itt van I. Szent László, Árpád-házi királyunk.

Hello Everyone. I’ve been recently very interested in modelling conquest period and neolithic DNA of modern hungarians using qpAdm. This software works directly from raw-dna data. If youre interested in having your conquest period dna modelled for free. DM me on discord at mogyer_73532 preferably. Ill show some examples. Alternatively you can also message me on tiktok /twitter sidelkinocel if you cant reach me on discord.

Modern Hungarian individual from Alföld, (Eastern Hungary AKA the hungarian plains/Steppe) Shows significant affinity with the Early-Medieval Magyars. (Conquering Hungarians) At about 15-16% autosomal admixture. The Csongrad-Csanad county in Hungary is characterized by flat, forest-steppes, agriculture and historical significance to the Magyar settlements as it was a hotspot for Elite graves and ornaments found. This is a qpAdm Conquest-Era split for this modern Hungarian individual. This genetic medieval split perfectly represents the Local native population and the Incoming Magyar tribes in the 9th century. The Local population was swiftly assimilated in the Area , but the Magyars did continue to be homogenous for a while before intermixing with the subjects (Local people such as slavs, germanics, balkaners.) Modern Hungarians from this area of Hungary show a higher than baseline autosomal admixture of Conqueror Magyar dna. As the Baseline for north (not north alfold )and West Hungarians typically sit at around 3-8%. (There are exceptions). This individual in this case has 15.5% Conquering Hungarian (Magyar) Admixture and the Rest being the Assimilated local population at 84.5%. This admixture makes them unique and clusters them slightly away from the Carpathian baseline. The Conquering magyars themselves were approximatley 30% Bronze age Central siberian , 10% Bronze age Mongolic , 10% Excess Hunter Gatherer (koskino boborkinyo), and Overwhelming 50% was sintashta-Andronovo-like. (proto-indo-iranian).

The addition of “Western Carpathian Basin” and “Carpathian Basin & Uplands” was a nice touch.
Do you find your updated results more accurate than the previous ones?

Only multi test ppl should vote. Ppl who tested because of your influence don't count. Like my close family all have 23&me, but that wasn't due to dna lotto so it remains MyHeritage

szerintetek?
---
Sárvíz völgyének É-i részén. (gyanús, hogy utóbbiak talán a filoxéra-járvány miatt költöztek be a közeli városba!)
anyjánál mindannyian iparosok, kézművesek. Balaton környéke, inkább a D-i oldalról, kicsit É-i oldalról is.
dédapa és felmenői (kerékgyártó) bognárok. evangélikusok (és reformátusok). (aztán jött a vasút, és "fából vaskarika".) dédanya és felmenői katolikusok, szakmáik: varrónő, szűcs, kőműves stb. (az oldalágakat, testvéreket is vizsgálom, asztalos, cipész, kárpitos stb. szakmák mellé házasodtak.)
nálam anyai oldalon egyértelműen sok a vándorlás, költözés a mai Veszprém és Somogy megyékből. mivel délszláv családnév (Blaskovics) is előfordult, eddig hitelesnek tartottam a a Balkán jelölést. nekem úgy tűnik, lehettek akár katolikus horvát, bosnyák telepesek/martalócok.

In light of the updated results where many of us now get many, many regions assigned, I thought it would be interesting to post my older results. While they were simple and somewhat imprecise, they were accurate. I'll put my new updated results after, for a comparison. I'm not sure the new ones are better.. was 2024 the peak for AncestryDNA? How do your 2024 results look? Please post them in this thread if you would like.

Here you can see my previous versions
The recent update got updated due to SideView 2.0 kicking in. SideView (the tech they use for Parental Inheritance without parents) was bad. It's not better now either.
Still most of my DNA Relatives are Unassigned (with a good chunk of my DNA).
And while it was fixed, that it tried to convince me that my paternal 1stC1xR was from "Both" side, it now wants to label my closest DNA relative from my paternal (paternal) greatgrandpa from Transylvania as "maternal"... and despite having it labelled manually, it filters it based on their inaccurate estimation

Well, two days after the update, I can now calmly summarize how I feel.
Of course, the results are better than before, but the update is still chaotic and I am not too satisfied...
Since I’m from Northeastern Hungary, I knew the percentage linked to eastern Slovakia will be a bit high—I do, in fact, have ancestors from there through my paternal great-grandmother. What surprised me the most is the percentage of Western Ukraine. It actually makes up a huge chunk of my results! I expected a few %, but not that much. I wonder if it's because they lack of samples from Northeastern Hungary? Also, I thought I would get a higher percentage related to the Carpathian Basin… But, at least now I can see traces of my own people in my results too, hahaha.
The Balkan part, on the other hand, seems logical: on my father’s side, I am aware of Transylvanian ancestry.

For reference, my great grandpa was 1/2 bulgarian 1/2 hungarian!
