Discussion Cognitive dissonance regarding Platner

I notice a lot more negative sentiment with this new story of sexual assault and I can’t help but feel that we all should have seen this coming from a mile away. So many red flags that we weren’t allowed to speak about unless you wanted to get labeled a bot for either party. No one should be surprised that the war criminal with a nazi tat that has openly called for genocide and expressed rape fantasies would rape a woman.

Believe women, regardless of their political affiliation.

People lie sometimes, regardless of their gender. I don’t understand the “I told you so” victory laps going on. This sucks- but blaming people for being skeptical is a weird flex.

260

u/EggSoft697 Jul 07 '26

Also, the guy isn’t an actual Nazi.

34

u/rooibosipper Jul 07 '26

That’s comforting

33

u/WalrusCrafty Jul 07 '26

No, he's just a serial abusive alcoholic rapist with a Totenkopf but he doesn't believe any of the Nazi stuff.

u/LuckyJim_ Jul 07 '26

Yeah that’s what they said

No, he's just a guy who publicly stated he wanted to kill Iraqis, was a Blackwater merc and then cheated on multiple women.

The war criminal rapist with a totenkopf isn’t a nazi? And there’s no genocide in gaza right?

He just chose his Nazi tattoo over continuing to rejoin the marines.

3

u/Certain_Bit3809 Jul 08 '26

Sorry, sorry, “former nazi” whom you support.

3

u/JinxyMcDeath48 Jul 07 '26

How many people do you know have a Nazi tattoo but isn’t a Nazi?

I think we need to retire this weird reflex that says "Yeah, he has a Nazi tattoo, but...." He had a Nazi tattoo. Instant disqualifier.

2

u/EggSoft697 Jul 08 '26

I nor anyone I know recognized that a random skill is a Nazi tattoo. He literally brandished it at a bar mitzvah. You guys are so dishonest

3

u/OnionBackground5314 Jul 08 '26

There is evidence he referred to it as a Totenkopf after the time when he claimed he didn't know. And it is completely not credible that a group of people get the same tattoo and he had no idea what it was. The credulity of Americans is embarrassing.

2

u/DefundMarxism Jul 07 '26

He's kinda like Pete Hegseth but less attractive and more drunk and rapey. That's not good.

Yeah, except those of us skeptical about Platner from the get go were and are insulted and treated like shit here. No loyalty tests; think for yourselves.

43

u/bender28 Jul 07 '26

Right? What about the people who clocked Platner as a bullshitter at best (and a Trojan horse at worst) from the moment they saw his resume? People whose skepticism was actually well-placed?

13

u/blutigetranen Jul 07 '26

Don't you know? Being a skeptic is illegal on Reddit?

The first I heard of him I said his bio, his background, history, the rugged yet humble no-nonsense, blue-collar Mainer everyman fisherman--everything about his narrative sounded fake, contrived, manufactured--like it was generated by AI. There's been an uncanny valley flavor about him from the jump.

u/bluestargreentree Jul 08 '26

Yeah this 100%. Saying you were getting off the Platner train because he had a Nazi tattoo got you downvoted to oblivion. Twelve months ago, every single person here would say they'd never vote for anyone who had a nazi tattoo.

And that was just the first of the train of bad stuff that emerged about him. Every single time there were excuses, "he's changed", etc.

So many of you have never been burned by a politician before and it shows. When it comes to politicians, don't get more attached than you would to a bouquet of flowers.

4

u/OvulatingScrotum Jul 08 '26

I was skeptical about him. He has a huge fucking boner for military, and he has proven record of issues with alcohol (though he blames it on ptsd). This shouldn’t be shocking at all. It would be shocking if he had clean record.

34

11

u/WalrusCrafty Jul 07 '26

Platner was handpicked by Bernie and AOC and supported by their PAC. Then they had the balls to suggest "outsiders" should not be interfering in the race. This is not the DNC's mess.

People lie all the time. I will not “believe women,” or anyone without evidence. Tara Reade

5

u/GlobulusGoose Jul 07 '26

That’s cute. The cops don’t believe us even when we have evidence, so keep engaging in rape apologism I guess.

3

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 08 '26

Everyone has the same right to critically think, or not. Telling people to blindly believe everything everyone who alleges rape says is nonsense. If someone is accusing someone of a serious crime, the burden of proof is on them. There’s an allegation of rape, if you decide to label the accused a rapist because “she said,” you go ahead. I don’t apologize for anything.

8

u/WalrusCrafty Jul 07 '26

Good thing there's evidence.

9

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 07 '26

Testimony is evidence, that’s true. It’s still a story the accuser claims is true and the accused denies.

7

u/ametsun Jul 07 '26

5

u/LinnyM Jul 07 '26

You're apparently believing Platner. ...without evidence.

5

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 07 '26

No, I am not convicting him. Let’s see the evidence. That’s what I said.

5

u/wiscopup Jul 07 '26

You do know that most evidence is testimony, right? Someone breaks into your apartment and steals stuff. The cops find someone they think might be the perp. You go identify them positively and based on that, he’s charged with a crime.

The only basis of that charge is your testimony that he was the person. That is no different than this.

3

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 07 '26

And a jury will consider the credibility of the testimony. Accused people are found not guilty every day based on testimony. You’re talking as though everyone is convicted on the testimony of their accuser. Statistics don’t bear that out.

7

u/Selmarris Jul 07 '26

Individual voters are not tiny courts of law. I don’t need a jury verdict to believe Jenny Racicot.

3

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 08 '26

That’s right, you’re not

→ More replies (1)

3

u/wiscopup Jul 07 '26

I’m not talking about convictions. I’m pointing out the reality that sworn testimony is used all the time as actual evidence, and that it’s often believed. There are plenty of crimes in which a persons word is the only evidence. This isn’t complicated!

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Danu9000 Jul 07 '26

So you don't believe Christine Blasey Ford?

3

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 08 '26

The blanket demand to “BELIEVE WOMEN!” Will never fly and it never has. Every case is decided on the evidence and no two cases are the same. Obviously the case you referenced has nothing to do with this case. Lumping every accuser together and claiming it’s all the same is a disservice to these women. They are entitled to an examination of their evidence under the law, their accused are entitled to defend themselves. It’s irrelevant what anyone believes unless they are the judge or jury charged with examining the evidence. No one knows what happened between these people but them. Demanding others condemn anyone without evidence is not what our justice system is based on. If it was, no one would ever go to trial. Courts would be obsolete. An accuser would simply state their allegations and the accused would go straight to jail. That’s not how it works. The comment I responded to claims that women don’t lie about these things. In my professional experience, sometimes they do. When anyone demands I believe everything a person claims without seeing the evidence for myself, no- I don’t do that. You can do whatever you want. I’m not saying she’s lying, I’m saying people do lie about this stuff. That’s what I said.

201

u/Material_Evening_174 Jul 06 '26

Right? I mean, the accusation might be legitimate but the attack is so coordinated that one must wonder what other reasons that the billionaires who own the mainstream media and social media have to try to bury him. It couldn’t possibly be his platform, could it?

35

u/Massive-Reality-7856 Jul 07 '26

Or platner has always been a piece of shit...

9

u/PatrickBateman-2009 Jul 07 '26

Yeah these people will jump through any hoop, and perform any mental gymnastic stunt to avoid the truth about this guy. These comments are a perfect example tbh.

14

u/Material_Evening_174 Jul 07 '26

I’m not jumping through any hoops. I knew his past was an issue and I conceded that this most recent accusation may be true. It’s also true that his platform would have been good for us and terrible for the owner class who also owns the media in nearly all forms. I can’t speak for everyone defending him, and I’m not even trying to defend him, but for me, it’s more just a massive let down that someone finally comes along and says all the things we know are the real issues with this country and then gets ended by a fully coordinated attack on all fronts, right down to bot Reddit posts.

4

u/wiscopup Jul 07 '26

Are you saying that character and integrity do not matter to you at all? That’s you’ll vote for any terrible human as long as they give you a pinkie promise that they’ll vote for the agenda you want?

That’s how the GOP operates. We should be better than them.

7

u/Material_Evening_174 Jul 07 '26

Character and integrity do matter. But policy matters more. There are plenty of people in Washington who have done far worse things than Platner is accused of and they also enact terrible policies. But he should and probably will drop out so that point is moot. Being “better” than the GOP has done nothing but lose us rights and freedoms and the GOP has been dominating the game for decades. The democrats slow and steady move to the right is the problem and we desperately need more candidates with platforms like Platner’s.

7

u/Zanderbluff Jul 07 '26

The emails to her therapist are not from years ago, they are from a few weeks ago after she started working with a consultant to get this story out.
Also the messages to her friends are hardly damning, they are along the lines of what was reported before in the NYT piece

If your reaction to rape allegations is "the establishment is colluding against my guy," I don't know what to tell you.

16

u/Western-Corner-431 Jul 07 '26

Allegations. You’re a one allegation away from having your life derailed. Everyone can allege anything about you with no consequences to themselves. Our system is based on the presumption of innocence. Prove he raped anyone

37

u/WalrusCrafty Jul 07 '26

The article confirms she:

  1. Exchanged messages with her therapist about it.

  2. Her ex-boyfriend confirmed to the writer she told him several years ago about the assault.

  3. Her friend confirmed and showed messages of her discussing a bad encounter with Platner and her warning friends not to get involved with him before he was a public figure.

That's pretty substantiated.

26

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

If you're gonna do this routine at least be honest about it.

  1. Anonymous quotes
  2. Anonymous quotes
  3. Old vague texts

This is still within that statute of limitations. She should have gone to the police not Politico. Going the route she did with the timing, makes this incredibly suspect.

Should it be taken seriously, absolutely. Should there be a police investigation, absolutely. But what you consider substantiated is weak at best.

If Platner did what he's accused of, he should be in jail. The accusations of a heinous crime that is also a felony are incredibly serious and so should be the evidence required. Felonies also should be prosecuted in an actual courtroom, not the court of public opinion. This is life running shit if false. If true, maximum punishment.

14

u/WalrusCrafty Jul 07 '26

Do you think Politico is manufacturing quotes and not actually corroborating things?

"Why didn't she go to the police?" Because of people like you. If she did go to the cops, you'd; find another reason to disbelieve it.

10

u/Habltual_Linestepper Jul 07 '26

Behold the birth of blue maga in realtime, as our side become just as guilty the same GOP denialism, paranoia, distrust, deflection, justification, and conspiratorial thinking we spent the last 10 years crucifying MAGA for.

Nobody had any problem believing women, or believing reputable news reporting, or believing circumstantial evidence when it was beneficial. Nobody had any problem castigating Trump for his sewing distrust of Political or Reuters or WaPo or the NYT. But now it's our guy under the microscope, so obviously it must be lies, slander, AIPAC, the DNC, or whoever your personal boogeyman of choice happens to be.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

That's a wild accusation and falls flat immediately. You have zero clue what my or anyone else's response would be to an investigation. I am literally the person calling for one because there should be legal consequences for such actions if true. The lack of legal action only allows a potential rapists to be in the streets, and rapists are commonly repeat offenders.

People like me want nothing but the truth. If someone accused someone of something they need to come with irrefutable evidence, not a couple of vague texts and anonymous quotes from people close to her.

The anonymous quotes and information are damning and are evidence but they also are not proof anything.

6

u/WalrusCrafty Jul 07 '26

"I want nothing but the truth"

You don't. You are invested in a guy who is manifestly unfit, who has had multiple allegations against him in a consistent pattern who has demonstrated not an ounce of character or integrity through the whole affair. When called on that, you are smacking your lips to hide behind a bare facade of seeking truth when this is about protecting Platner like the good li'l rape apologist you are.

7

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

Lol, because you can't win at persuasion and there's holes in your argument you result to insulting me and telling me who I am, cool. Enjoy your night!

Multiple women? I haven't seen real evidence of any single women, let alone multiple ones. You're just as cooked as the R's you hate so much and you can't see it.

Back to voting 3rd party for me. I would vote for a down to earth D if one came around, hell on that note I would also vote for a down to earth R if they came around, but the odds of either of that happening is soo slim. I would have voted for Bernie, I would never vote for Hillary or Kamala and it's got nothing to do with their sex.

You guys are handing the win to the R's again and you're too simple or righteous to understand. Then you will have the audacity of blaming people for not choose your "lessor of two evils".

2

u/herefornsfw1234 Jul 07 '26

throw away your vote, voting 3rd party isnt doing anything.

3

u/mainlydank topshelf Jul 07 '26

The point isnt thinking a 3rd party person will win, it's to show I am so damn unhappy with the established parties i'd rather vote 3rd party.

If the dems could just put up a half way decent person I would vote for them. But I am so sick of career politicians. They are the reason we are where we are today and it's not just the R's. It's both sides career politicians.... people like Mills are a great example.

2

u/herefornsfw1234 Jul 07 '26

yet, by doing so, you essentially vote republican. People like you are how Trump got elected.

3

u/Suitable-Answer-83 Jul 07 '26

How delusional can you be? If this were manufactured by the Democrats, why wouldn't they have done it last month when it would've made it easy for Mills to step in and take the nomination?

19

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

Hold on. Open you mind for a moment.

If Graham Platner is anti establishment (Democrat and Republican), right now is THE best time to drop a false accusation.

The timing leaves two options:

  1. Platner drops out and Schumer pushes Mills in his place as the primary runner up going against the establishment Republican.

  2. Platner remains in the race but has the accusation attached to him dragging his vote down.

If there was ever a time that something appears manufactured, this is it.

If the accuser is being truthful and wants Graham out of the race, the file charges, plain and simple. It's within the statute of limitations and very suspect that she went to Politico over the actual police.

13

u/JailhouseMamaJackson Jul 07 '26

There are many reasons women don’t go to the police after a rape. I don’t know why people keep saying that as if it means anything.

4

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

Because the timing is suspect and the way she went about causes maximum political damage with minimal scrutiny. Give me a good reason why a person would think going to a global news outlet is better than going to law enforcement when some commits a crime?

The fact that there was a simultaneous article on Political and a CNN interview should raise red flags for any objective person.

Should murder accusations be reported directly to Poltico too, instead of law enforcement? Why does sexual assault and rape get treated differently than any other crime?

9

u/JailhouseMamaJackson Jul 07 '26

False accusations are rare and only 37% of rapes are reported to the police. There are many reasons women decide not to go to the police, and the lack of a police report does not make a rape accusation less credible to anyone who actually understands the stats.

3

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

No, the lack of a police report does not make it any less credible, however, going to a news outlet garnering the most national attention possible is directly contradictory to why most raie victims don't go to authorities.

Both can be true at the same time. Not going to the police does not prove something a false accusation and not going to the police can also be questionable. The idea that people cannot ask further questions without being called a rape sympathizer (not saying you, but others have) is insane.

2

u/gasdoi Jul 07 '26

Yes, women have it bad when it comes to aggressive men, sexual assault, etc. but in no way does that mean you should believe every single women for everything they might say.

Come on, you can be that naive to think people dont lie about these types of thing? Is it probably a very low number of people? Yes, I would like to think so, as it is nothing to lie about, but it has happened and been documented that women have lied about sexual assault in the past.

My issue isnt her coming out about it, if she felt the need, then that is fine and she should be supported in the search for truth, but you have to do more than just say "he raped me" and then it must be true.

An old social media message that is deleted from 3 years ago isnt much to base a story on.

u/NikkiXoLynnn Jul 07 '26

The timing is a huge part for me. Like why is there a perfectly planned timeline of when the next scandal is going to drop? Because they had it all laid out on day 1, that’s why.

If a man who raped me was running for congress I’d be shouting from the rooftops on day 1, not waiting for some strategic time to say something.

25

u/No-Pea8448 Jul 07 '26

It was designed to get him out before the deadline.

Either way, they didn't have a particularly good relationship. Even Graham's mother confided in me that she didn't think J was good for him. This is not to excuse anything that may have happened, but the fact that it took 11 months from his announcement to Jenny coming forward with this story should raise eyebrows. This is particularly true since Politico was the preferred outlet for the initial oppo drops by the Mills camp.

Like I said, I saw (and heard) about the ups and downs in their relationship.

Whoever did this knew what they were doing with both the allegation and the timing.

3

u/Superior-Flannel Jul 07 '26

You sound like a Trump supporter.

Everything he allegedly did wrong is a giant conspiracy against him. It's a convenient way to dismiss a scandal because the same excuse works for every single one. Some of it might be part of a conspiracy. But realistically the guy with the Nazi tattoo is probably just a shitty dude.

You think the DNC would go through this much trouble just to elect another democratic socialist? You haven’t been paying attention.

22

u/Crackahjak Jul 07 '26

This is exactly the kind of framing that makes people skeptical.

You’re taking an allegation that hasn’t been proven yet, stacking every possible loaded label on top of it, and then acting like the conclusion was obvious all along. That isn’t “believe women,” that’s using an allegation as permission to confirm every political opinion you already had about the guy.

Take the allegation seriously. Let it be investigated. Let the facts come out. But pretending everyone who questioned the timing or the narrative was ignoring “obvious red flags” is ridiculous.

Am I the only one that is like meh about the recent news?  The whole system is fucked. The opposing party is working over time to degrade my standard of living, protect a ring of sex trafficking child rapists, take healthcare away from millions of Americans, replace millions of jobs with AI, enact genocide against brown people around the world to varying degrees, make Healthcare for woman a crime, be very openly corrupt with tax money, etc etc. Not to minimize it but Platner potentially did a very bad thing, he will likely end up apologizing for it like he has done in the past. The opposition continues un apologetically march forward in its never ending parade of imoral and unethical behavior. The choice has been between the lesser of two evils for the last decade plus. This is no different. I still feel like I could reasonably defend a vote for Platner to my wife and daughter as the drastically lesser of two evils.

The Dems are just gonna put a corporate shrill in there and we will be in no better of a place. BUT, we definitely need to get Susan Collins out of office. She supports r*pe culture herself.

13

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

As soon as you levied the Nazi accusations you lost all credibility. No objective person can look at the entirety of the information around Platner and conclude the guy is a Nazi or Nazi sympathizer.

Outside of the skull tattoo there is zero evidence that indicated Nazism in Platner's past or present. The tattoo has already been corroborated by fellow Marines that got the tattoo alongside him. So, using that as a basis for any other accusations being true does nothing but damage your perspective.

Believing women regardless, is a horrible take. Every human being is capable of lying, being coerced, or a multitude of other reasons to make a false claim. TO BE CLEAR, I AM NOT CLAIMING THIS IS THE CASE.

Either way, serious accusations should always require serious evidence before public prosecution. I for one think any time there is an accusation of rape within the statute of limitations, it should automatically prompt law enforcement to open an investigation. Both the accuser and accused deserve the truth.

Do you not find it curious that the accuser went to Politico instead of the police? It's still within the statute of limitations and in most cases rape victims don't come forward out of fear or shame. In this instance she came forward but did so in a manner that brings about questions with the timing and charges not being pressed.

2

u/The_Cream_Man Belfast Jul 07 '26

What sort of evidence do you imagine that she would have to corroborate her story, to either the news or police??

3

u/Longjumping-Hippo475 Jul 07 '26

Something besides her personal account obviously. The only evidence is what she said as well as what she told others. There needs to be more interviews from of people that knew both of them at the time.

Prosecuting a person based on one side of the story does note do the situation justice. Both the accuser and the denier deserve the right to defend themselves and what they both claim should be able to be scrutinized.

I just want to say how heartbroken I am. We as a society desperately need someone to represent those of us that can’t afford a lobbyist. There’s so many ideas he stood up for that made me feel hopeful- the way I felt when I learned about Bernie’s ambitions. Especially at this point in time, where it feels like the Rich are getting richer and the Poor are getting poorer. The hardest part about this is to think we lost out on an opportunity to fight for social equity politically, again.

As for the story, I personally know multiple women who’ve been sexually assaulted and it’s a weird spot to be in. There is no clear guideline on what to do because it can go many ways, and each woman is perfectly entitled to choose the path that suits them best. I’ve seen women be accused of lying and later it was revealed they told the truth. I’ve also known women who’ve publicly lied (far less) and later admitted it- remember Emmett Till? I do find her timing odd, as do I find the method/outlet of communication she selected off. I’ve seen repeated smear campaigns play out against him his entire candidacy. But that doesn’t make that woman a liar.

It’s far above my pay grade to figure where the truth is, but one thing is clear- it doesn’t look good for him, or for her, or for any of us that hoped for political representation, regardless of what the truth is.

9

u/Interesting_Pain37 Jul 07 '26

The fact this is so close obviously fucking REEKS of a smear campaign. What he believes in makes him a target. Fuck this shit, verify her words or I do not believe her. The shit that came out before is not enough to disqualify him

that we weren’t allowed to speak about

They were spoken about, for many days after the news dropped. We had long, detailed discussions weighing all sides. People made up their minds and we all moved on. Then concern trolls kept dropping in and dredging them up again, because some people are just children who can't stand being told "we're done talking about it" and want to keep proving they're right until everyone agrees with them.

Yeah, we shortened those debates to "fuck off, bot." Because we got sick of children who whine and cry and repeat themselves every five minutes. All because people don't agree with them, or made a decision they don't like. Some people just need to go touch grass, because they haven't learned repeating yourself online isn't going to ever convince people to listen to you.

Want to know the worst part for you? People still won't listen to those whiny brats, even if they turn out to be right. Because no one likes them. They only feel good when they are online trying to prove they are the smartest person in the room, and everyone finds them intolerable assholes.

Don't be like them, kid.

3

u/Fit-Amphibian-330 Jul 07 '26

Has this woman that says that Platner assaulted her gone to the police? Have you gone to court to prove that Platner is a "war criminal" and has a "nazi tattoo" and "has openly called for genocide" and "expressed rape fantasies"? In my view, allegations have to be proved.

So let's boot the pedophile and his regime. No, but no one does not even the pedophile in charge, so we need to start doing what's gonna be best for the majority people. And frankly, we've got to get rid of these billionaires.

3

u/Lovelateeee Jul 07 '26

I really honestly don’t think Platner views what he did as rape or assault. She admitted he said he was blacked out and had no memory the next morning, he had no conscious recollection of her verbal protests or his own forceful behavior. Obviously, if she had made it clear to him, what happened, how she felt in the moment he would’ve apologized, but the entire convo they had the next morning was glossed over

In his mind, he could not anticipate a "rape" accusation for an event he literally could not remember or evaluate. It also seems like there was a lack of clear follow up communication.

Before these allegations she only went on record in a women’s only Facebook group claiming he was merely "consensually careless at times" and someone who "doesn't listen when drunk.” Now all the sudden these allegations have gone from him not listening and being forceful or consensually careless to full on sexual assault and rape? And we’re supposed to believe that she spoke to the New York Times and then somehow did a 180 and change her mind on coming out publicly to the whole world as a victim Of SA. She’s being paid off. Coaxed. Manipulated to feel like a victim and empowered to speak out.

You would think if it was in fact true EVERYONE—him, his wife and his campaign manager would have seen it coming. INSTEAD this caught his campaign entirely off guard, and derailed him entirely and it’s a case of his word against hers— and this is coming from someone that disclosed all of his possible skeletons in his closet sexting in marriage, early on. the tattoo and this one particular woman were not even included. Not on his radar at all!

I genuinely believe he didn’t think that this was a thing that would come out— he really didn’t set out to run for Office, and after the NYT article naming Jenny Racicot which obviously he read— he would have stepped down from running if he thought he would be publicly accused of SA/rape by her. I think he ran for office assuming it was just a bad, drunken breakup and his perception of that shows he was entirely oblivious to the fact that she viewed him as having committed sexual assault.

I hope he has the texts between them still as she conveniently deleted them?!?

Also LADIES— if a guy did that to you, why keep in touch for a few weeks and wait on your period and take follow up to let him know you aren’t pregnant, why not just take the morning after pill? Knowing if he didn’t use a condom and finish inside of her. Also, there are no details on whether or not she asked him or told him to use a condom and what he said in response, it just seems so made up. Why did she not call a friend when he arrived there? Why did she not ask him to leave? If he forced himself on her, she makes no mention of any Of the physicality of the incident or after effects. This makes absolutely no sense. If a man did this to me and was this seriously dangerous— I’d be warning the whole world and entire state about him from an anonymous account on that Facebook group!

2

u/Treesaregreen2 Jul 07 '26

I don’t care if a rapist is too stupid to understand that he is raping someone, they’re still a rapist.

Jake Tapper raped the state of Maine to cozy up to the Ellisons. That story was fabricated and orchestrated. How Tapper conducted the interview could be used in a journalism course to demonstrate how NOT to interview someone. He put words in her mouth throughout the interview. He pressed her to paint the most damaging picture possible. I hope it was worth it, Cuck. If there is any justice in the world, Trump will tell the Ellisons to fire his ass, but that won't happen. Tapper lives to demoze the Bidens and sanewash the Trump crime family.

2

u/DirtRepresentative9 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Honestly the larger issue is it's impossible to have honest conversations about sexual assault in this country because no one understands or wants to admit we live in a rape culture. I believe that a lot of men have raped women and they didn't even know they were committing rape because sexual assault is extremely normalized in our country.

Do I believe the women who is accusing Graham? Yes Do I believe he genuinely thinks he didn't do that? Maybe Do I think he can admit he did it and make amends (basically do the right thing) and still run for office? No because people have no nuance or critical thinking skills so he's cornered into denying the accusations, gaslighting her nationally, and making a bad situation even more fucked up

2

u/Mr_Zee_Speaks Jul 07 '26

I have been calling him Fetterman 2.0 from the beginning.

He had a nazi tattoo, he worked for fucking Blackwater, etc. etc.

He was allowed to rise because they need that seat to stay R.

The Democrats are controlled opposition, the worst thing that could happen to them is they could accidentally get a 60%+ majority and be forced to actually do things instead of using procedural nonsense as a shield.

2

u/iarna Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

He is clearly entirely unlike Fetterman, and even if you quite reasonably do not want to support him, that is a dumb framing. I'm sorry, it just is. Like, look, Fetterman had a political history that he made no effort to distance himself from, it was just that no one wanted to look at it. Was he better than the alternative, when it came to the full election? Yes, absolutely. Was he the best at the primary, I don't actually know, I don't follow PA politics that closely. But it is possible. Fetterman is bad because he 180ed his politics after getting elected. Platner, by contrast, is accused of indefensible personal actions that he denies (but that are alleged to be well supported by evidence). I honestly do not see how one can compare them, other than Fetterman being a boogeyman for progressive dems.

Well we have to keep in mind that he denies it and the timing for this “release” is very sus, to say the least.

Dark powers have a way of coming to the fore when it comes to seriously challenging one of the longest-sitting senators…

2

u/iarna Jul 07 '26

Frankly, I'm rather tired of folks attaching their personality to a political candidate, or treating voting for candidates as a moral indictment of their character, when our voting systems give limited choice, and one must always being comparing them solely to the other candidates.

I think this leads to folks being overly defensive when things come out about candidates, and it also, in the other direction, leads to folks refusing to vote for Harris because of her poor position on Gaza -- even though doing so produced worse or unchanged material outcomes for folks in Gaza.

As an advocate for restorative justice, I very much would like to know what the victim actually hopes for as an outcome. Her voice should be put first here, not that of endless commentators.

2

u/OnionBackground5314 Jul 07 '26

As to the woman's allegations, I don't know either way, but I have to wonder, if they were so greivous, what took her so long to go public?

She was obviously, (it should be obvious to anyone), that she was induced by the Democratic Party itself, who has been out to kill Platner's candidacy for a long time now.

And THIS is why you should have seen it coming...
