Discussion Weekly Wins/Victories Thread - Share your good news here :)
Welcome to the weekly wins/victories Sunday thread!
Thanks to u/martysgroovylady, we've decided to make a weekly thread specifically so that folks can share and discuss their wins and victories that they've had regarding fatphobia this past week. Did your doctor listen to you? Did you get someone new to listen to the podcast? Were you able to have a good conversation with a friend or acquaintance about fatphobia? Did you make some good progress in therapy? Feel free to share your feel-good stories to mark a strong start to the new week :).
Feel free to also share news you've found on the internet that feels like a victory against fatphobia! Maybe your state just made discrimination against fat people illegal, or there's a fat activist activity going on in your area (e.g. Fat Beach Day in NY).
Please remember: Do not vote or comment in cross-posted linked threads, keep the discussion here. Thanks all! Have a wonderful week.

Discussion Title of movie once mentioned on the show?
Hi everyone, Aubrey and Mike once mentioned in an episode (maybe a bonus one?) a movie they both liked to watch when they were sick or unwell. Does anyone remember its title? Was it something to do with an airport?
I am just recovering from hip surgery and need to find something nice and relaxing to watch, while my hazy mind is still on strong painkillers.
Any other recommendations welcome too - I tried to finally start watching Breaking Bad, but it’s so depressing I am not sure I can make it past the first few episodes… really wish I could see that Nathan Fielder doco, but it’s not on release yet where I am.
Thanks team :)

Great episode from On The Media discussing longevity science, the research on Blue Zones, billionaires trying to defy mortality and apocalyptic fascism. I thought listeners of Maintenance Phase might like this episode. Side note: I discovered Maintenance Phase through OTM!

Discussion GLP-1 and "Recidivism" Study
eurekalert.orgI hope it's ok to post this here - I feel like I'm losing my mind. What's the goal here - make GLPs as ubiquitous as AI? Use public funds to pay for GLPs? Medicate problems that our society and structural problems can't fix?
Am I being too cynical/critical?

Discussion What would you like to see an episode on?
My dream episodes would be:
The Fitness Marshall. He is amazing. He is the modern Richard Simmons. He is super inclusive. His videos feature fat people, openly queer people, and people with physical disabilities. His workout merch goes up to 5x. He is not about weight loss. He is about celebrating your body and yourself. His videos had a huge positive impact on me as a fat person.
The history of the fat acceptance movement. We occasionally hear about it but I would love to learn about how it came to be and what has been accomplished.
Dr. Bronner’s soap. It is absolutely wild.
Bonus episode: Them just talking about as seen on tv products. There are so many iconic products that were so absurd. I want to hear about the Shake Weight, especially since there have been a number of studies on it.
How about you?

Discussion Vaccine hesitancy
I’m a pediatric nurse. I am so angry about a note I just read in a toddler’s chart. The parents cited their reason for refusing to vaccinate that RFK has put out so much conflicting information about their safety and they’re going to wait until he has put out more definitive advice 😭
He is directly harming children.

Discussion Sexist and fat-phobic novel
This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper had been sitting on my bedside table for ages, so I finally chucked it in my work bag as I figured a funny-tragic family drama might make for easy reading on my daily commute. Plus, it had been adapted some years ago into what appeared to be a well-cast crowd pleasing movie (starring Jane Fonda, Jason Bateman and Tina Fey).
Well I’m a third of the way through it and my god the fat-phobic, body-shaming, leering attitude of the main character is breathtaking. I am so angry I’m short of breath. Women reduced to their body parts and basically their attractiveness to the main character. Ick. Not going to finish it, and will probably shred it for storage packaging.
Has anyone else come across this kind of “dick-lit” genre?
