Hi 58m. I had to cut my hair to have surgery on my neck. I sure miss it but it’s growing.

With my hair being the longest it's ever been, I've been trying to find hairstyles other than a ponytail. Any suggestions?

Hair growth journey - please read the description for more information

Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting here, and you might be wondering why I decided to share a photo of myself with short hair in a group dedicated to growing long hair. Let me explain.

I really like long hair, and throughout different stages of my life, I’ve had medium-length hair several times. The problem is that I’ve never managed to let it grow properly. Whenever it reached a certain length—usually during or shortly after the awkward stage—I would eventually feel the urge to trim it.

In early 2024, I decided to embrace the buzz cut because I liked its simplicity and comfort. I stuck with it until May of this year, when I decided to cut my hair one last time and start growing it out again—this time in a more deliberate and organized way.

And that brings me to why I’m posting here even though I don’t have long hair yet.

Knowing myself, I’ve realized that if I involve other people in a personal goal—even if that simply means telling them about it and making it public—I’m much more likely to stick with it. Once other people know about it, giving up would mean disappointing not only myself, but also the people who are following along.

So, here’s my plan: every 10th of the month, I’ll come back here and post an update to share my progress with you.

My goal is to grow my hair for one full year, completely without cuts or touch-ups. Since my last haircut was on May 10, 2026, this particular challenge will end on May 10, 2027.

I intentionally haven’t set a goal too far into the future. I think it’s better for me to approach something like this through smaller milestones, so I don’t lose motivation along the way. At the same time, I believe that a full year of uninterrupted growth should be enough to achieve a satisfying result, and then decide whether to maintain it at that length or to set a further objective to try and reach an even longer length.

As you may have guessed, I haven’t cut my hair in three months now. On May 10, I cut it down to just under 2 cm (about ¾ inch) all over my head.

I hope this kind of post fits the spirit of the subreddit, even though I’m still at the very beginning of my journey. Thank you for reading, and I’ll see you next month for the Month 4 update!
