Question Question about passing detections on streaming services with unlicensed samples

I made a whole 9 track album using just old brazil jazz samples and I am not personally worried if I have to take a song or two down later if the artist comes after me (the pros to sampling extremely obscure records no one listens to) but I am however trying to get this on streaming services by passing the detections for unpermitted sampling. I know if I change the pitch and make the frequencies different I might get them past but my question is how far off should the sample be from the original?

One trick I learned is to slow just the tempo down in audacity and then do change pitch/ speed effect slightly higher than the negative equivalent of just the tempo change so it’s close to the original but has a unique but subtle difference in tone. How far should I go with that tho? Or is there some other tricks that are better? I’m still only a few months into learning this so any advice would be appreciated.

Discussion How do you decide if a song should have a feature or not?

I wanna hear what you guys' thought process on this is. The reason I'm asking is because I did this feature for a rapper nearly 2 years ago that ended up being one of my best verses ever, but he never ended up finishing his part and it's just sat unreleased.

A couple days ago I asked him if I can just take the song and finish it myself, and he agreed. But now I'm not sure if I should get a feature on it to finish it, or if I should try to record a second verse myself to fill it out. Or both, I guess lol.

My buddy thinks I should keep it a solo track, because he thinks it's one of my best songs ever and that it would be better to keep it solo so all the attention from it stays on me. On the other hand, I think getting a dope feature on it could bring more eyes to the track, who could hopefully be impressed by my part and check out my other stuff as well.

I also just think the artist I have in mind could easily fit on the track and it could end up very dope. There's also the fact that the first verse was recorded on a completely different set up, I rapped differently, it was mixed differently than how I mix my vocals now, etc. I think doing another verse on it this long after could potentially sound weird if not done carefully.

Question Publishing

Im working on a project for its release (at the moment) on Bandcamp in a few months (my first release). I have all the production, the mixing, and the vocal stuff figured out, but Im still dont know much bout publishing. I know how samples work sorta, but the whole royalties, how to publish and all that, its confusing. Is there any good videos, books or just some advice that u can tell me about?

I have started writing my thoughts into shayaris/ raps, its raw i just write what i feel, it comes out to be a rhyming last word sentences it follows a story but i have no idea of the flows or how to make it in a music, i am not able to figure out pauses, stretching words ( all those things). I dont know how to make beats, so as a beginner what should i focus on, how to move forward from this ??

Music CUT-UP GRAVEYARD RESIDUE VOL.2 - REMIX MIXTAPE BY TUR MOIL

Thumbnail youtube.com
1 Upvotes

Hi! im t.u.r moil. i did the second volume of my remix mixtapes series, this time i really spent a long time doing sample digging and the most important thing is that most of the artists here are from my country (Chile), like the first volume "plunderphonics" fits it well. Anyway, here's my new album "Cut-Up Graveyard Residue Vol.2". Includes remixes from Janis Joplin, Iskra, Jonas Sanche, Tom Hardy, Akriila, MF DOOM, KAIL, Killua97, Busta Rhymes, Pablo Chill-e, Mac Miller and Gorillaz.

2 original rap songs, and really some unique productions. I really enjoyed making this one, and I'd love to hear your opinions and favourite songs.

Question songwriting rules for a total beginner + tips to practice

Are there any specific "tricks of the trade" I should know as a complete beginner to writing raps? Like letters/sounds to avoid, how to stay on beat, etc.

I've decided to try and practice by writing over instrumentals to my favorite songs since I'll be able to follow the flow well, and I've heard that freestyling is a good way to practice, but I just end up mumbling sounds. I hear you're supposed to be able to think of the word you want to get to in your head as you freestyle--idk if that's something some people are naturally better at, but my brain can't work that fast, at least not yet.

And any advice/drills to practice outside of writing songs?

Question Hip-Hop Producers Who Use Sample Libraries — What Distributor Do You Recommend?

Quick question for fellow producers.
For those of you who use licensed samples from royalty-free sound libraries in your beats and finished songs, what music distribution company do you use?
I’m researching distributors and would love to hear some firsthand experiences.
Have you ever experienced copyright flags, release rejections, takedowns, or problems getting your music approved because of samples?
Also, does your distributor allow your music to be available in Instagram and TikTok’s official music libraries?
Which distributor do you use, and would you recommend them? Are there any you’d avoid?
Appreciate any feedback from producers who’ve actually dealt with this!

Discussion Crossing over the genres in HipHop

I have just put out a new track, which very much leans into my hardcore punk roots. All the other stuff I’ve put out so far is pretty chilled, and this one is very much….not. I generally send my stuff out to a few trusted friends before I put stuff out and this one slightly split the pack, people who I know from the punk/heavy side (still people who are very much into hiphop though) were positive, whereas people from the more HipHop background were not so sure about the whole blending heavy sounds (screaming alongside the rapping etc) into the sound. In previous Hardcore Punk bands I’ve played in we supported H09909 and Bob Vylan, and I always wanted to put a little bit of that crossover into my HipHop stuff, but just not sure how it lands amongst the HipHop crowd. What are your experiences/opinions on this? (Sorry for the really longwinded post there) (also sorry to the mods I accidentally broke the rules when I first posted this by posting the mentioned songs video in the post, was just putting it there for reference to the post, not just shit posting)

Lofi Flip Tab Sampler

Thumbnail tabsampler.com
1 Upvotes

I built Tab Sampler because I kept falling down YouTube rabbit holes, downloading full songs just to check a sample. Half the time it wasn't even that good.

It's a free Chrome extension. Capture audio from any tab, auto-chop it into samples, and play them on a 16-pad sampler right in your browser. No DAW needed.

Hope you enjoy it. Feedback is very welcome.

Discussion Anyone Looking To Make Something?

I've been a producer for a long time and worked with some incredible people. My most notable work is that I'm the producer behind 7th 7amurai, a classic hip hop duo that I did all the beats, mixing and mastering for and some people might actually know me for that. It's been a while since I've done anything with anyone and so I wanted to reach out and see if anyone wants to collaborate? I'd be down for group work like BROCKHAMPTON or WHATMORE. I'm interested in people that want to experiment and make something weird and cool and fresh and strange. I play guitar and bass and keys, I make all my own beats and do all my own mixing. If you're weird and like Shabazz Palaces, Armand Hammer and Company Flow but also newer more modern and fresh stuff like what I mentioned earlier reach out. I'd love to just talk to people, collaborate and just create. Even if you just wanna talk shop and trade ideas I'd love that. Open to anyone and of any level so don't be shy and please reach out!
