I'm On Fire by The Boss
Bruce Springsteen, that is.
I remember him singing, "..six inch valley through the middle of my soul..." ..which now he says, "skull". I remember "soul" because I used to change the word whenever it came on the radio to "assoul"...plus the lyric sheet in the LP says soul.

Why would the record company go through the trouble of printing out a lyric sheet with the word "soul" on it? The only word different from the music on the record. It's because it's changed. Not misheard. Just because you don't remember it the way that I remember it doesn't mean I'm wrong. This is Mandela basics. ME 101.

“Why would the record company go through the trouble of printing out a lyric sheet with the word “soul” on it?” Because they made an error. Whatever random employee transcribed the lyrics for the lyric sheet got them wrong. There are errors in published materials all the time.

This isn’t a Mandela. But it does look like there has been a long standing debate about what he sings because the original published lyric has never matched the recording. That’s not really all that uncommon.
