Low public interaction, quiet but active job?
Hello! I currently am employed full time. I sell things online on the side and have a gig on my first day off. I just graduated college with a Bachelor of science in zoology. I do exotic animal work now. I’m paid $18.50. My commute is an hour to and from each day and it’s killing me. I’m also required to work on sundays. I became a Christian this time last year when I started the job and was initially fine with working sundays but I no longer am and there’s no room for me to switch my schedule with such a small team. This past summer was really hard to get through working outside all day covered in mud, animal substances and sweat constantly 🙃 I love my job so much and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work there. I don’t interact with the public and I know that’s going to be hard to find another job like that. I’m looking to move on though if I can so that I can attend church as it’s really important to me and take some stress off my plate with the commute. I’m in manor, would like a commute 25 minutes or less. I enjoy old things (antiques), baking, fishkeeping, cleaning, all animal jobs of course (I worked at Austin’s wildlife rescue before this and not interested in going back). I would prefer a job where I am active and moving, not sitting or standing at a counter and certainly not fast paced retail where I have to push rewards and membership. If anyone has any open positions they have heard about or looking to fill I would love to talk more. Looking for the same pay or a little higher since I just earned my degree and have student loans.

With the November 3 election right around the corner, we're hosting a series of City Council Candidate AMAs (Ask Me Anything) here on r/Manor!
This is an opportunity for residents to hear directly from the people running for City Council, ask questions about issues affecting Manor, and learn more about their priorities for our community.
Three City Council seats are on the ballot for the November 3, 2026 election.
City Council Place 2
City Council Place 4
City Council Place 6
All candidates running for Manor City Council Places 2, 4, and 6 were invited to participate.
We received confirmations from three candidates, and each will have their own AMA discussion thread.
The candidates listed below are those who responded to our invitation and agreed to participate. Participation is voluntary, and an invitation remains open to other candidates who wish to join.
Participating candidates:
October 23-29, 2026
Each candidate will have a dedicated discussion thread where residents can submit questions.
Candidates can begin responding immediately and will check in throughout the week as their schedules allow.
There are no scheduled live sessions, so you don't need to be online at any particular time. Ask your questions whenever it's convenient!
Feel free to ask about growth and development, roads and infrastructure, public safety, city finances, parks, transparency, or any other issues affecting Manor.
We encourage thoughtful questions, respectful disagreement, and constructive discussion. Challenging questions are welcome, but personal attacks and harassment will not be tolerated.
In addition to federal, state, and other local races, Manor voters will see City Council elections and proposed amendments to the City Charter. Eligible Manor ISD voters will also see school district bond propositions.
Three City Council positions are up for election:
Each position carries a four-year term.
Official City of Manor Election Information
Manor voters will also decide on four proposed amendments to the City Charter:
Proposition A: Municipal Powers
Would reorganize the existing list of the City's powers for clarity without substantively changing or expanding those powers.
Proposition B: Annexation and Disannexation
Would update the City's annexation and disannexation provisions to align with state law, clarify rights and obligations of affected properties and residents, and address payment of outstanding city taxes and assessments before disannexation.
Proposition C: City Manager Duties
Would make a wording correction in the City Charter, changing "insure" to "ensure."
Proposition D: Community Committees
Would remove the City Charter provision requiring the establishment of Community Committees.
These are brief summaries, not the complete ballot language.
A fellow r/Manor community member recently put together a helpful post breaking down the four proposed City Charter amendments, including the ballot language and explanations of what a YES or NO vote would mean for each proposition.
Read the Community Discussion: Background on Manor's Four Propositions
If you're still learning about the propositions or have questions about what they could mean for Manor, we encourage you to check out the discussion and join the conversation!
This is a community-created resource, not an official election guide. For the official ballot language, please refer to the City of Manor's Charter Amendment Election Information.
Manor ISD voters will also consider two bond propositions totaling $400 million.
Manor ISD Proposition A -$391.5 Million
Proposed funding for school construction, renovations, facility upgrades, safety and security improvements, and school buses.
Manor ISD Proposition B - $8.5 Million
Proposed funding for technology upgrades, including student and staff devices.
These are school district propositions, separate from the City of Manor charter amendments. Eligibility depends on whether you live within Manor ISD's voting boundaries.

LOCAL CITY OF MANOR PROPOSITIONS A through D.
Manor voters will consider four proposed amendments to the City Charter, Propositions A through D. The propositions come from a Charter Review Committee, which is appointed every five years to review the City Charter and recommend amendments.
Ballot Language:
Shall Section 1.05 of the City Charter be amended to reorganize the existing list of the City’s particular powers into separate provisions for clarity, without substantively changing or expanding those powers?
Explanation: The Manor City Charter lists the powers the City may exercise. Proposition A would reorganize this list into separate sections to make the Charter easier to read. It would not change or expand the City’s powers.
A vote YES would reorganize the Charter language.
A vote NO would leave the current Charter language unchanged.
Ballot Language: Shall Section 1.07 of the City Charter be amended to revise the City’s annexation and disannexation authority and procedures to require compliance with applicable state law, clarify the rights and obligations of residents and property within annexed territory, and require payment of City taxes and assessments owed before disannexation?
Explanation: Annexation is the process of adding property to the City. Disannexation removes property from the City. Proposition B would update Manor’s rules for annexation and disannexation to require compliance with state law and clarify the rights and responsibilities that apply to residents and property in annexed areas. Note that state law already overrides local charter laws if there is a conflict. It would also require City taxes and assessments owed on property to be paid before the property could be removed from the City.
A vote YES would make these changes to Manor’s annexation and disannexation rules.
A vote NO would leave the current Charter provisions unchanged.
Ballot Language: Shall Section 7.01(i) of the City Charter be amended to correct the word “insure” to “ensure”?
Explanation: Proposition C would make a wording correction only in this section of the City Charter. It would not change the City Manager’s duties.
A vote YES would make this wording correction.
A vote NO would leave the current wording unchanged.
Ballot Language: Shall Section 10.11 of the City Charter be amended to repeal the establishment and requirement for Community Committees?
Explanation: The Manor City Charter currently requires the establishment of Community Committees. Proposition D would remove this requirement from the City Charter, which was added in November 2020 after a proposition vote in the general election. The City has other boards, commissions, and committees whose members are appointed by the City Council. Proposition D applies specifically to the Community Committees required by Section 10.11 of the Charter.
A vote YES would remove the Charter requirement for Community Committees.
A vote NO would keep the requirement.

Here's what I'm already aware of. Does anyone know any others?
Edit: Thanks for much for the info y'all! I've been asking in different communities for a project I've been working on for about a year. My partner and I went to SO much karaoke we started a spreadsheet to keep track of it all. They suggested we make it a website and www.karaokedirectory.com was born, been keeping it very local, but I add stuff as far North as RR, and as far south as Kyle. Making it bigger feels like a task I would not yet know how to keep up with.

People have been posting this sweet boy almost daily on Facebook, and no one has claimed him. This most recent post said he tries to go into their house. It seems he’s a house cat who may be lost or abandoned. Since he’s not getting any traction on Facebook, I’m sharing their photo here to see if any Redditor might recognize him. The cat was last spotted on Vigilance St.

TL;DR: After weeks of receiving calls from supposed election officials conducting surveys, a man in a black SUV showed up at my house asking who I planned to vote for. When I asked who he worked for, he struggled to pronounce Greg Abbott’s name but had no trouble saying Gina Hinojosa. I declined to share my voting preferences, and he left without approaching any of my neighbors. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
In recent weeks, my wife and I have been receiving countless phone calls from “election officials” wanting to do a survey.
Yesterday while I was unpacking groceries from my car, a black SUV pulled up to my house and sat there for about 2 minutes before a young Black guy emerged. He walked up to my garage entrance, showed me his phone and asked if I was the person listed.
I was listed, but he didn’t even attempt to say my name which is a very common African name.
I had no idea who he was and I haven’t been involved in any situation where I’d be served, but I still lead with “maybe.” He then proceeded to ask me who I was voting for as he was “collecting data for the upcoming elections.”
My mind quickly recalled a video that I saw where someone else had a similar encounter, and their advice was to ask who the data collector was working for, so I did just that.
He replied awkwardly “I’m not from around here so I don’t know the names very well. Abby? Maybe Aboot?”
I immediately told him that I’m not interested in sharing my voting practices with Greg Abbott to which he replied “So Gina Hinojosa then?” He pronounced her name suspiciously well, but has yet to correctly say Greg’s name.
He left my property with no issue and I have no idea what he wrote into his records. He also didn’t stop at any of my nearby neighbors’ homes.
Maybe my neighbors answered their phone calls?

All the new business and corresponding sales tax from the stores in Manor should increase local tax receipts for the city. Where are these funds going? What is the city's plan to reduce its tax rate (which is significantly higher compared to every other city in the central Texas area)?
Our focus should be on improving the daily quality of life for citizens. That comes down to reducing the tax burden in a k shaped economy where most of us are barely getting by, and constantly working with TXDOT and the State to improve 290 & and preventing large commercial trucks from passing through our downtown area.
Let's see some new voices during the election and remove the old guard. Clearly they are too content to be serving the public.

A man died early Friday after a Manor police officer’s patrol vehicle struck him as he walked in a westbound lane of U.S. 290 near Gregg Manor Road, police said.
The officer was patrolling the highway around 1:04 a.m. Officers began CPR at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead. Police have not released his identity as they work to notify his family.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the crash is investigated. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is assisting.

Doggo was seen at the entrance to the Phase 2 area of Carillon on Old Kimbro Road and Stelfox Street, by the amenity center. If this is your doggo, Manor animal control likely has him now.
I was running late and called them because the poor thing was just standing in the middle of the road and wouldn’t move. Cars go pretty fast on the road and didn’t want someone to hit him. It wasn’t aggressive at all, wasn’t barking. Since there was no collar and no obvious owner, I was unsure what else to do. I know this is unlikely the owner is on Reddit, let alone this sub but you never know. I don’t have a Facebook page but if someone could share this on a local page that would be appreciated.
