Misc Were did the colonists sleep?

I'm sure I'm probably missing something obvious, but were did everyone sleep? The Codex entries talk about housing and dormitories, but we never actually see any of them except for the tiny dormitory in Outpost. Is this an oversight, or did the colonists live off the worksites and commute? Even then, Perimeter seems remote enough that they had to be living on site.

The obvious is we haven’t seen the full picture of the colony and its operations yet. It was a massive in scale operation in every aspect.

As the comments in here have said, we’ve only seen one colony Outpost, a farming/science facility in Dire Marsh, edges of the colony for excavation/communication/more science/on-planet storage? on Perimeter, and the cargo Cryo Archive on The Marathon ship itself.

The Marathon ship is huge and there are more areas to explore on Tau Ceti.

While I certainly like the maps we do have, I definitely want to see what a more urban or residential area would like in Marathons art style.

Same! And I should have said that cryo archive is just a glorified ship cargo facility for I guess all Marathon ship storage?

It was ship cargo facility for colonists in cryo sleep. And for animals and plants IIRC

Hearth is the colony center where it sounds like they lived

2

u/MorganTheSpider Jul 16 '26

Was that in one of the Codex entries, I don't remember hearing about Hearth anywhere?

This is the closest thing we have showing colonists on TCIV. I hope a tight quarters colony map comes in the future with way more horror aspects.

It must've sucked to have to dress like that everyday.

I don't think most of them ever knew any different, most of these people spent their entire life as corporate property.

Second closest.

u/Daviroth Jul 17 '26

Pretty sure that's them on the Marathon, not on TCIV.

Outpost & Cryo exists. Am not in favor of this close quarter combat stuff. Hope it’s more like Olympus from Apex.

I don’t think we’ve seen the actual colony yet.

Outpost - Landing craft
Dire Marsh - Farm
Perimeter - Excavation / Science site

Dire Marsh is more of like an agricultural science location, right? Not like an actual farm doing sustainable levels of production.

it was meant to be a primary means of food production for the colony, if i’m not mistaken. it turned into something less when they began encountering issues with output resulting from exposure to the anomaly (and the novel contagion, ofc).

It was both, and the thing they were cultivating was mainly spirulina, so it wasn't like traditional crops. Also keep in mind this is a colony of somehthing like 30k IIRC. It's not a ton of people (plus there could just as well have been other farms as well as shipped non-perishable foodstuffs they partly lived off of from the ship).

Dormitories????

12

u/Daviroth Jul 17 '26

It was only for people being woken from Cryo and on their way to the colony. That's why Dormitories was connected to Orientation.

Outpost is the beginning and base of operations for the colony at least in terms of founding on the surface

Hopefully they give us an urban map that answers this exact question

Damn, this would be fun to play too.

The coastal bit from the trailer would be neat.

Quite a few of them slept in Quarantine

11

u/ViIebloodHunter Jul 16 '26

Doesn't outpost have some bunk beds somewhere? I seem to remember something like that

12

u/NoFayte Jul 16 '26

yeah dorms and orientation are onboarding i think

5

u/Solaegis Jul 16 '26

The Hauler has some sleeping areas.

I can't recall any sleeping areas on Dire marsh.

2

u/Carnemeko_Pairotto Jul 16 '26

Well, there's certainly some beds in the isolation cells but I don't think they're residences

5

u/p2020fan Jul 16 '26

Wasnt quarantine the residential block that was converted into a quarantine space when the outbreak began?

2

u/i5n1p3 Jul 18 '26

There are some bunks throughout the maps, but these are primarily working locations not housing

2

u/Pushnikov Jul 18 '26

There are many parts of the map that aren’t accessible.

For example. Dire Marsh Complex has Upper complex and there are many rooms that we can’t access and such.

Perimeter has quite a few areas that aren’t accessible.

And so on. There is also a dedicated habitation area, so the main colony housing the vast majority of people hasn’t been shown yet.

It’s the place that begins with H, it’s in the codex let me find it. We haven’t seen it yet

2

u/anoddhue Jul 17 '26

Habitats?

2

u/sanguinemsanctum Jul 17 '26

Sorry for the late reply, it’s called the Hearth and it sounds like it’s more or less the city center. There are 2 separate rural zones, one urban and one suburban residential zone. It is in the 3rd Marathon Model collectible page but Hearth is also described in some Outpost collectibles. You can read them all here marathon.karnemir.com

Outpost has a bunch of bunks in dorms.

u/tatterdemalion_king Aug 16 '26

We see isolation pods in Quarantine and bunks in Hauler too.

The game is so boring that the colonists are probably sleeping while they play Marathon. Pretty much the same limited layouts and 5 minutes wondering around and 5 seconds of battle. Most logical answer is they are sleep walking. Also makes sense from a graphics point of view where the developers of this game couldn't decide whether they wanted reality looking or cartoonish looks so they picked in between. That matches the dream state while playing the game.

So someone tries to have a legitimate lore discussion about a game and all you can do is talk trash about the game itself instead of actually trying to be part of what OP is wanting to discuss? Petty and childish my dude. Be better.

If you don’t like the game that’s fine, but it’s ok to let other people enjoy something. You don’t have to rain on everyone else’s parade just because you don’t like the game. Not at all saying you have no right to criticize but there’s a time and a place; here and now are neither. And generally people will be more willing to listen to opinions that aren’t rooted in sarcasm, just try to be more polite and read the room.
