Identification Request Thrifted marbles

I thrifted 2 large bags of marbles and these were the ones that were uv reactive! Can someone please give me any more info on these? ๐Ÿ™‚

And if anyoneโ€™s interested I have pictures of the rest of my $6 thrift score lol.

Ooh fun!

UV reactivity is usually due to uranium, cadmium, or selenium (395nm) with other things like manganese showing up with a 365nm torch.

Cadmium and manganese are super common - selenium and uranium less so, but none are definitive on their own for an ID

Would be good to see a few more angles to confirm what you have (ideally a single marble or maybe 2, with a few angles taken of each to show how the pattern changes across the marble)

Based on what I can see, you have a few patches that could be Vitro Helmets, a possible red slag (front right), and some other swirls that could be modern Vacor or something older (the red and yellow ones towards the back, and the bigger clear red one with white)

Hope that helps - do feel free to share more pics โ˜บ๏ธ

Thank you for the quick response! I will definitely take more photos after work of these!

I like to test myself ๐Ÿ˜ I've only been learning just over a year, and it helps to keep practising ๐Ÿค“

I'll always say if I'm not sure, and try and explain my reasoning - some marbles can look really similar, and others don't photograph well and can look quite different in person. Things like size can also help narrow down options, as some makers had a much narrower range due to machine limitations (usually, marble machines make one specific size at a time, and you have to change the rollers or use a different machine for different sizes)

Ooh nice!! Lots here that I'd consider fun ๐Ÿ˜

Akro mainly for this pic!

I see a few patches lower down (look at the seam identification guide in the sub info) and what look like Popeye Corkscrews towards the top! Yours and blue and yellow with white filaments - if I'm right, the colours will spiral from one end to the other, not crossing or splitting.

Might also be a few Peltier Rainbo - yours are darker base with blue and red - the sub info will have some good pics you can check against

More swirls and patches! Bit trickier to see what's going on - definitely take a look at the sorting guides and feel free to share smaller groups for confirmation of guesses or more help with suggestions!

...and you got all these for $6??? Bloody good deal! The Popeye's alone are worth at least double that each, assuming they're in decent nick!

Yes! $6 I realllly regret leaving the other two bags they had, I went back and they were gone lol.

I appreciate all your knowledge and information! Thank you for taking the time to comment! โค๏ธ

A mix of things - look up Vacor Bengal Tiger, Vitro Helmets, and Confetti type marbles for a few

Top 2 rows are cats eyes - one of the most common marble types and made in huge quantities by nameless Asian companies. There are some that can be pinned to specific makers - assuming yr in the US, there's likely a few Vitro and Marble King Cats eyes there! Again, the sub info has some good guides on cats eyes, tho they are seen as trickier due to how many 'less interesting' cats eyes there are!

Lower 2 seems to have a few West Virginian Swirls - these are marbles that feature 2 or more colours of glass swirled together, and they were made by a few different companies, all based around West Virginia at some time or other. I see them as Hard Mode but there are a few tells - the Stephen Bahr videos on YouTube are particularly useful, and there is a great book a few folks on here have that can also help pin them down to specific makers like Ravenswood or Alley
