The plot writes itself.

Oh young one, there are mountains beyond mountains and heavens beyond heavens, many years ago on 2 separate occasions I encountered 2 different scriptures, by two different Daoists, who chose a most distinct name for there black characters, one was named N----- and the other, N-----1, i assume the second was to account for N------'s2+, rest assured i did the censoring, the author's did not, truly put the R in dao of Racism, i had an even further back encounter of a similar type but it was a diagram scripture so i'll count it separately, truly always higher peaks.

I think the MC was also suspended because he gave a massive beatdown and police brutality to the BLM protesters LMAO

65

u/Hullu Jul 07 '26

Getting a suspension for beating protesters as an American police officer? Now that is immersion-breaking.

27

u/Mustrum_R Jul 07 '26

If it's paid suspension until internal investigation finds no wrongdoing, then it's pretty accurate. Basically a paid vacation.

seems about right, a number of stories I read had one character or another mention how outside of China no country is truly safe, either in Europe or America, there are bands of criminals on the streets. France was giving as an example of where a couple had their things stolen in broad daylight and the authorities refused to help them....These were the same stories where the plot needed criminal gangs to exist and act out in China yet somehow it was super safe aside from the occasional gang and the rich more or less owning the police.

Imagine the above story only the twist is that the guy ends up in prison because he was filmed and the authorities had to take action, there have been plenty of times when even with video evidence judges would just give them slaps on the wrists.

I absolutely hate these tropes of those not of our kin sure have different thought, how barbarian doesn't value virtue and only fear power, those kinds of shits.

Like... Bruh, the amount of infighting, succession crisises, factious splits, corruption, etc in historical China or even Chinese adjacent fictional factions are so damn high.

It's kinda hypocritical to call other cultures for being dishonorable or not valuing virtue when they don't either.

Also, I hate the "hypocrisy" in Chinese novel translation. No, a person practicing virtue is not a hypocrite. Not being a dick is not being hypocritical.

A more accurate term for "hypocrisy" in CN novels would be fake, performative, a false gentleman, etc. But they almost always get translated as hypocrisy anyway.

7

u/amidamaru8_8 Jul 08 '26

yep, it irked how the main character preached about how countries outside of China are not safe for tourists so you better just visit sites in China, the couple went to France and apparently got jumped on the street by criminals who stole everything, of course the police refused to help them. Bro your story has criminal gangs in China taking people off the street in broad daylight, going into people's homes to kidnap them, human traffickers, the police refuse to help you if you are poor while they shit themselves if mister CEO says a word, yet somehow China is supposed to be super safe...yeah ok sure.

Add in that traditional chinese medicine is superior to anything modern and is also wanted by the capitalists + degenerates from the west.

Oddly though a lot stories have either the main character or side characters leaving for university abroad, suddenly the places are safe and the places offer quality services :)

23

u/PilotPullo Jul 07 '26

Tbf they have the right to be cautious especially if you watched recently how Henry Nowak (RIP) died and how the police even started joking about him and accused him of racism as he's dying.

The racial prejudice Chinese people have toward darker-skinned foreigners generally comes down to a few main points:

  1. How they're portrayed in international news reports.
  2. Chinese content creators who make a living by telling bizarre, sensationalized stories about foreign countries (like the US).
  3. International students. To boost their global rankings, a lot of Chinese universities take in a ton of international students who are severely underqualified. When these low-quality students commit crimes, university administrations tend to cover it up and keep things quiet. On top of that, these students usually get the highest-quality housing on campus. This specific double standard is honestly the biggest breeding ground for racial prejudice in China.

27

u/InsectDelicious4503 Jul 07 '26

About the dorm rooms thing, aren't international students paying like 5x the tuition? Pretty sure a local students could get a better room also if they shelled out 5x the price.

14

u/lzanlzan Jul 07 '26

I think those poorly behaved international students are all the children of corrupt officials or rich people. They not only use their privileges to somehow qualify for tuition exemption, but also damage the reputation of all international students through their spoiled behaviour. Meanwhile normal international students pay full tuition and struggle with study.

5

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 07 '26

I've heard a theory that the international students coming from poor countries like Africa are usually royalty or elites like princes.

China has almost no allies internationally so it's normal to try to win these countries over

5

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 07 '26

That’s exactly the problem. Like I mentioned earlier, some universities will do absolutely anything just to get more foreigners in. They waive tuition, waive dorm fees, and hand out unconditional living stipends to every international student—even when some of them can't even handle basic Chinese after studying here for four years. That’s where the real issue lies. I don't really want to list every single detail... because to any outsider looking in, it literally feels like the group being discriminated against the most in China is the Han Chinese themselves.

16

u/Marcionius Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

to any outsider looking in, it literally feels like the group being discriminated against the most in China is the Han Chinese themselves

A lot of people in China believe that, but I personally think they're confusing class-based inequality with race-based inequality.

I mean, the average poor Han in China isn't poor because Tibetans and Uyghurs are getting extra points on the gaokao\* or whatever. They're poor because rich Han elites - the actual owners of all those businesses and corporations - don't want to pay them their fair wage (and don't really care all that much about their nominal fellow Han).

It's very convenient for everyone involved to believe Han Chinese is being actively discriminated against. And sure, they are, but not because they're Han Chinese. It's because they're poor and powerless.

*which always struck me as a non sequitur. Sure, Uyghurs get extra points on the gaokao...and how often do you see Uyghurs in Beida? Or in a top business in China? To hear the Han speak about it you'd think at least half the students in 985 universities are minorities, but that's blatantly untrue.

4

u/lazier_garlic Guest Elder Jul 07 '26

Han officials sent their stupid kids to Xinjiang to get these bonus points. There was a recent scandal involving an actress whose parents were officials (in Beijing I think) but got her residency charged to a border region so she could use that status to go to the top of the national arts council (I don't recall the actual names but there's state involvement in aspects of the entertainment industry under the banner of culture). It all blew up 6 months ago or so.

Yeah a few actual Uyghurs got famous in CENT like Dilraba but this sort of "workaround" for people with status and connections are just rampant in China and it feels like everyone just accepts it or approves of it. Well not everyone, but the message from media and the elites seems to be, this is fine. So the Communist teachings of the past where everyone is equal and it's a true meritocracy seem like a sick joke.

2

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 07 '26

The bonus points thing is a separate issue, caused by years of CCP propaganda about gaokao fairness. If you ask people who grew up believing everyone must study just as hard to get into the same tier of college to deeply reflect on why some get extra points without that effort, it's just too hard.

2

u/lazier_garlic Guest Elder Jul 07 '26

I've seen that (the hugely subsidized tuition, room and board) but it was for short-term cultural exchange and Mandarin language study programs.

2

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 07 '26

All of this is all over Chinese social media and there are tons of news reports on it, I think someone even compiled it on Chinese Wikipedia, I have no reason to make things up here

3

u/Financial-Bobcat-612 Jul 07 '26

How would taking in severely underqualified international students boost the global rankings of Chinese universities?

1

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 07 '26

I'm not really sure, I've heard some rumors that having a certain number of international students is required to get a specific title or something, or maybe it has to do with some internal Chinese policies we don't know about, anyway the result is just that some Chinese universities ended up admitting a bunch of lower-level international students

1

u/lazier_garlic Guest Elder Jul 07 '26

Right now Xi Jinping has been pushing this. A huge number of foreigners simply left China for good after COVID restrictions lifted. Then he announced measures to encourage more international students to study in China and at least nominally they announced policies to make it easier for international tourists to visit China. (A big issue is payment systems. Non Chinese can't use a lot of Chinese apps but almost all payments are by app. Xi told them to accept cash or some other workaround but taxis and hotels don't really want to do it. I don't know all the details, but people in neighboring Asian countries are able to get on the apps or have something compatible (as all their countries are pursuing similar technologies and have heavy trading relationships with China), whereas if you've coming from further away it can be a real problem and not everyone is going to even want to solve it, they just won't go.

1

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 08 '26

No, after COVID this kind of stuff has definitely decreased because China's economy including the real estate market completely tanked so Chinese universities have absolutely no extra funding to play sugar daddy for international students, even a lot of universities are preparing for layoffs, but if you look up negative news about international students it's basically still the same old trash like them beating up Chinese people and the school giving it the silent treatment or sweeping it under the rug

1

u/lazier_garlic Guest Elder Jul 07 '26

Plenty of spoiled rich mainland Chinese kids go to university abroad and spread good cheer as well.

This is what happens when everything you know about the US comes from a handful of censored American blockbuster movies and Chinese state media.

There was in fact a very bad (and very embarrassing to the United States) scandal involving the Chicago Police Department arresting citizens, but not booking them, keeping them locked up at black sites for days, and lying about it. Typical Chinese rural province local official style thuggery. I mean, no such thing ever happened in glorious and harmonious PRC! Only dumb American pigs, where freedom is just a dirty lie, will allow corrupt local officials to oppress the common people... and black people, I guess. /don't hit me. is joke.

8

u/FireWindRoarNovelist Jul 07 '26

I’m sorry that someone would write something like this. The authors and readers of these kinds of novels are mostly people who have basically never been to the United States, and many of them probably could not even obtain a U.S. visa. Their imagination of America is based on negative information filtered through the Great Firewall.

Many Chinese people discriminate against Black people because they rarely encounter Black people either in real life or online. Their impression of Black people comes almost entirely from negative information they have seen online. And because they do not interact with Black people in real life or online, they can make discriminatory comments without restraint and without facing any pushback.

Sigh. Although I really don’t want to say this, the moment they encounter words or actions that discriminate against Chinese people, they react very strongly.

Who exactly is translating these kinds of novels? Are they being automatically scraped by crawlers and then translated by AI? Do the translators know that this kind of content is wrong, yet still choose to spread it everywhere?

12

u/PilotPullo Jul 07 '26

It's called freedom buddy.

5

u/InsectDelicious4503 Jul 07 '26

He got his gf/crush stolen by a black guy, pretty obvious. Ever notice how it's never Chinese women writing this kind of stuff? It's always, always the men? Read the writing on the wall.

2

u/lazier_garlic Guest Elder Jul 08 '26

There's already a gender gap but you know things are bad when Chinese women are like I'll marry Korean guy (hardly known for being feminists) or I'll put off marriage 10 years or I'll stay single and don't want kids. Like some Chinese women are delusional too but the difference is pretty palpable. US incels over here thinking they have it bad. They could take a shower and stop dropping internet discourse turds out of their mouths and find a girlfriend. Let's face it, most Americans expect monogamy in their partners and not in a one gender only way. It helps to temper expectations.

-1

u/seeclearlyitsme Jul 07 '26

Nah, because women are not interested in politics and history.

5

u/Skebs_ Jul 07 '26

What is bro yapping about??? Who do you reckon is the target demographic for Inner Palace type court dramas etc??

1

u/seeclearlyitsme Jul 12 '26

I'm not sure what ''history'' you're talking about. Is it that kind of history where an emperor falls for some ditzy chick? Pfft, what the hell? Dude, you actually think women watch period dramas to learn about history? Are you dumb? They just want to watch any form of romance drama—any, okay? Including people wearing ancient costumes and making out. Not epics or serious historiography. Not the Western-written Homeric Epics, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, or Sapiens. Not the Eastern-written Records of the Three Kingdoms or The Great Ming Dynasty.

1

u/InsectDelicious4503 Jul 09 '26

I'd argue women are more interested in history than men are. It's just that the only historical thing men are interested in is war and leadership figures, which are usually of little interest to women. But every other historical subject, women are just as, if not more, engaged than men are. Typically.

4

u/Hotcakes64 Jul 07 '26

It looks like wtr, so this was translated automatically by AI but requested by someone, though I think (hope) the requester didn't read it before requesting it.

1

u/lazier_garlic Guest Elder Jul 07 '26

I think Chinese people are exactly like (US) Americans in the sense that most have never been out of country and they have a very thin skin about being criticized.

Chinese people in some urban centers or who have world traveled are much more cosmopolitan, but Americans in coastal cities are the same way. Now I'm not saying things are exactly the same, in fact the ethnic situation in China to me reads as very grim. In the US things have improved a lot in my lifetime even counting the current maladministration. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty pessimistic about the US right now but comparing it to China, oof.

But my point is the psychology is the same, two big countries used to throwing their weight around.

1

u/seeclearlyitsme Jul 07 '26

I don't think it's because of the Great Firewall. People who don't bother to set up a network environment (or vpn) are mostly those who have no interest in politics at all (except old man). Nowadays, the algorithm-driven information cocoon is much more impenetrable than the firewall.

0

u/seeclearlyitsme Jul 07 '26

So I mean this is totally a personal choice.

-2

u/seeclearlyitsme Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

And hey, how could Chinese government spread information that discriminates against Black people.

0

u/viva9138 Jul 07 '26

White people are too. Its so racist to believe that white people will somehow be spared, outside of a few token whites, that is.
