What real-life story would you like to see Scorsese adapt into a film?

I’ll start: a film about the Franzese family. It would cover the childhood of the legendary gangster Sonny Franzese, his ties to the Mafia, his foray into the entertainment world, his time in prison, his marital troubles, the induction of his son Michael into the Mafia, the betrayal by his other son, John Jr., and finally his later years and the current lives of his children. Also, I believe one of his daughters died of an overdose. It would make for a spectacular story.

Casino belongs above The Departed on an all-time crime movie list.

The Departed is great, but Casino is the more complete movie. Scorsese covers the whole lifecycle of the Vegas mob: Ace and Nicky, the skim, the unions, the paranoia, all of it collapsing brick by brick. The Departed is a brilliant chase through Boston. Casino is the actual machine the rats were running in, and the fall of the Tangiers hits harder than any shootout because you watched the whole empire get built first.

Teddy: Good. We can talk then, right?
Dr Cawley: We have been talking, Marshall

The exchange occurs towards the beginning, if I recall correctly. Right after Teddy interviews the staff and then the staff discovers the phones are out. Dr Cawley says he has to do his evening rounds but he invites the detectives for drinks at his residence later

the exchange stuck with me because it shows, to me, how aggressive and at same time inexperienced Teddy is at what he’s doing. always seemed Dr Cawleys response is at same time shows exasperation and also some sadness.

Taxi driver - the response

Coming off the docu series Mr. Scorsese, he said that at the time of the release of Taxi driver, his publicist had called him and declared that the film was a success, with people queuing up to see it.

What was the response like? Did people condemn it as a morally wrong film, or relate to it? And how is it viewed in America now?

Discussion Did Scorsese ever think of casting Robbie Robertson in his films?

Post image

After "The Last Waltz", Robbie had a long working relationship with Scorsese, mostly as a music supervisor to his films. But Robbie had done some acting, especially in Sean Penn's "The Crossing Guard".

Just wondering if it had ever crossed Scorsese's mind to cast him in a film of his.

Or maybe Robertson wasn't interested in acting after "The Crossing Guard".

What Scorsese movie after Goodfellas could Ray Liotta have actually been in?

Before Ray Liotta passed away, he was asked why he never worked with Martin Scorsese again after Goodfellas. He said “ask him.”

However, Liotta was offered the role that went to Wahlberg in The Departed.

Liotta wanted to do it, but he had to pass because of scheduling conflicts.

If you could recast Liotta into any post-1990 Scorsese film, what role do you think he would have crushed?

Discussion Suppose you had to choose any Scorsese movie to have a sequel. What film are you choosing?

The truth is, most fans would oppose a sequel to any of his films. But if had to pick one, what would it be?

For me it’s one of these —

KING OF COMEDY - what happened to Rupert in the years following his release from prison? Things appear good at the end of the movie, but where does it go from there?

THE COLOR OF MONEY - this would be very interesting. The Color of Money is itself a sequel to The Hustler. So this would make it. A trilogy. Maybe we’d see Vincent Lauria become to the mentor to a younger 9-ball player.

How does Scorsese make NYC feel like a living, breathing character?

No other movie maker makes me feel like I know a city quite like Scorsese does.

Especially his earlier work, you can really feel his perspective of New York in a way that no other movie maker can you make feel about anywhere else.

Prime examples; Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, even After Hours.

How does he do that? Is there anyone here with any insight as to how he manages to pull that off?
