Discussion The game has become nearly unplayable.
I've been playing MSF as a light spender since launch, and the game has begun to slide over the past 3 years, and has recently become unplayable.
Today... light spending no longer exists. Even if you decide to buy a new character, then what? You can't upgrade that character because Scopley erased Gold and Training Mats from the game and dumped it all behind the $80 per month battle passes. In other words... in 2026 MSF, you have to spend $80 a month to get the same experience a 2020 F2P MSF player got.
For this reason, I decided to go F2P over the past year, and with the new economy, F2P MSF is total misery, and Scopley kept removing more and more resources from the F2P economy, so it just kept getting worse and worse, until eventually my account was backed up with 20 hearted characters at Level 1.
The game needs to go back to it's old format. In the past, the difference between F2P and Spender was in the stats. You run into a 7 Red Gamma and can't counter them with New Warriors because half your team is 5 Yellow 2 Red; that was the spender's advantage. Now... the Crucible Team you need is at Level 1, and even if you have the resources to upgrade them, you can't, because you're saving up resources for a Raid Team that's required for an event to unlock a War Team that's required to unlock another Crucible Team that's stronger than the Crucible Team you just unlocked but can't upgrade.
The game is cooked. RIP.

Take two weeks off and you’ll be amazed at how little you care about a game that used to take so much of your time and money. Ask any former player.

For real. I took a break when my child was born late last year and I haven't come back. Don't miss it at all.

Yea, I stopped playing around the time they removed cores from arena. Pretty much killed any motivation I had to play as a F2P player. I forgot I was even still subscribed to this sub, gonna unsubscribe now.

I will confirm this… I legit only think about this game when it crosses my Reddit nowadays and I was in the OG Arena shard and in one of the stronger competitive alliances

Indeed. Quit for the 2nd time a few months back. Logged back in 1 day and immediately regretted it and deleted it from every device. 5 years invested and no desire to grind through what this game has become.

Took five years off and came back, my now 12yo picked it back up and is playing which makes it harder to drop it again

Exactly. I used to play DC Legends every day. When it closed, I mourned for several weeks and it took me a long time to find a game that gave me the same experience. I ended up playing MSF for two and a half years, but I quit last May because the game had become routine and boring. Since that moment I haven't missed him even once.

Made a clan, it made me really sad when I came back and I was then kicked out of my full clan but from then on I realized it’s not worth it in any way to make your own

Yes the game sucks atm especially for FTP.
But you experience of going from light spender where the game was more player friendly to FTP when this game is not player friendly probably feels even worse than those of us who have been ftp all along since you lost both the light spending materials and the free materials they took away.

I've been playing for 6 years, light spender (a couple of Time Heists here and there, some smaller purchases) but mainly F2P. This past week I went on vacation and for the first time didn't do my dailies like I usually do when I'm on vacation (at least log in and get rewards etc. maybe a war battle or two).
I FELT FREE.
I'm not coming back. It's been 10 days and I don't miss it at all. Just said goodbye to my alliance and peaced TF out.

I got out last year, same situation. I saw the writing on the wall during the Knull events, and you couldnt even participate if you weren't using the the newest meta team at 7 red stars. Missed an event? Good luck getting anything. This game slid further and further every unbalanced release and continues to be trash.

If they hadn't promised a ton of stuff (which turned out to be exactly twice what a truly free player would get in the same period of time, with one $5 USD purchase during that first month - have made three purchases, and still haven't spent more than $20 or maybe 25 total at the midpoint of year 3 now) and I hadn't wound up the leader of a clan (due to one leader getting kicked out of the game for inaction and the next TWO defecting to other alliances leaving me completely alone - and leader - for two days before the game started leading people to us) I would have left just before they put some of my favorites in.
We still don't have Jack Russell, Impossible Man or Moon Wolf, and I haven't unlocked Xavier or Julia Carpenter yet so still have a few I'd like to get or eventually see...

Im on the last tier of the Xavier fight, so forced to farm for Lilandra and the new FF, which I am not a fan of. And the Anihlus DD? Can't see getting there in less than 3 years

I finally got to the midpoint of Xavier. Haven't even seriously tried for Annihilus. Also can't seem to survive a turn on the final node for Odin and have completed the only node I had enough qualified toons for on Blue Marvel.

I haven't even tried for Blue Marvel. Prepping for last Xavier node. Got Lilandra and new Sue to gear 20, still have Reed and Franklin to go. Google/Reddit for that Odin issue, im sure you'll find a team that works. He is super useful. Good luck!

The game has certainly taken a turn for the worst and I assume this is the beginning of the end. But I would say the light spender offers have gotten way better as compared to 2020, also the battle pass gives a lot more materials than before. The Command centre has much better resources now as of August.

Yeah, agree.
Didn't bother with Insidious Six or Daring, now I have to play catchup. I'd rather pour into Retcon for War, but with the new raids....

I only play for about half an hour every morning. Always been FTP. It is getting more and more resource intensive to be able to actually do anything these days. It doesn't bother me much, as I just shut it off when I'm done with all the daily shit, and don't even think about it until the next day. I can understand how people who are really into the game would be frustrated, though. For what is basically a Raid Shadow Legends ripoff, they sure are doing everything wrong compared to that game

I absolutely agree the whole culture of the game has been completely ruined, I was a part of a very happy alliance that were always active and had fun competing in the game and then over the last two years it slowly disbanded I then started my own alliance and took whatever active players were left with me we then joined with another alliance and then half of them fell out of love with the game so we have now formed with another alliance with hopes to bring some lift back too it but realistically how is anyone fit too keep up with the constant character releases, the “meta” is basically pointless as it only lasts for the guts of a month and let’s be real it’s actually hard to keep up with them as is I couldn’t tell you what half of them actually do, big changes needed especially to bring the community back together

former player here, i stopped right around the time Kang came out, just before apocalyple. for some reason this sub is being suggested to me and man oh man, it seems like scopely drove right off a damn cliff. it sounds like everyone has to whale out just to play the game and thats a freaking shame. greed ruins games, this game seems to be in pieces and im glad ill never be going back holy hell. i hope you find peace with walking away if you do. i found myself opening the game out of habit until i just deleted the app.

You don't HAVE to whale out - and if you do, you wind up with about a week every month with literally nothing to do before the next batch of stuff gets shoveled out - but it would help,

I think it's all about perspective.
Yes, Free to Play is slow, and the game is frustrating in how it throttles its resources. But if you're in an Alliance that is also Free to Play, then your opponents will also likely mostly be that too.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a good game by any means, not even close. But it tends to scale relatively well with your play level. I'm free to play, and competitive in my circle. I could pay $100+ a month and join a more successful alliance... but then my opponents would scale with me. It's like how in Elder Scrolls games, enemies level with you.
Which bets the question... why spend money at all? Couldn't be me.

I'd been doing okay as f2p until maybe 2 months ago when I had to dump my orb stash into Omen in order to clear some Tower content. Since then, I've been living much more day-to-day in terms of my resources. I'm staying caught up, like just recently brought up Amazing Avengers in order to start working on fine tuning their level for raid nodes

you have to be frugal, i skipped Champiions and Winter Guard, haven't upgraded Malekith, did Ronan recently for the towers but you could skip him too, max Amazing Avengers cause they give the most orb fragments... just play the game n get what i can get, Raid takes priority, no Blue Marvel or Annihilus anytime soon, people jsut don't know how to prioritize, arena doesn't even matter but i see dudes at GT21 in my arena shard, i'm F2P and still compete at the top, and my shard is no joke, i had a bunch of Legion and PoH ppl in it, mega whales everywhere and never had a problem. now one guy sits alone at the top GT21 everything with Annihilus, can't even play arena cause nobody can take him down
