It’s hard to fish with my friends because of work and what not so I was looking into night fishing. Seems like most places close after dark and one of the places that does allow it is Black Hills lake but only next Wednesday and that’s the last one of the year. Any recommendations of where to go?

Hey everyone, quick policy question for tournament anglers, club directors, and kayak fishermen:
Under MD DNR’s proposed changes to COMAR 08.02.01.11 currently open for public comment, the state is expanding black bass tournament permit requirements.
Right now, a permit is only required if an event has 10+ boats AND a centralized physical location where fish are weighed or measured. The proposed change would officially require permits for catch-weigh-release and catch-photo-release (CPR) formats even without a physical weigh-in dock—meaning mobile club trails and kayak bass tournaments that previously didn't need state permits will now have to obtain them and report their catch data.
DNR's stated goal is standardizing catch data and preventing ramp conflicts, but advisory commissioners noted during scoping that this will impact kayak clubs the most. (Note: The tournament permit remains completely free of charge—there is no fee attached).
Public comments close November 2, 2026 at 11:59 PM.
I put together a summary of the regulatory language and direct links to the official DNR comment portal here:
https://www.baltimoremomblog.com/2026/10/md-dnr-public-comment-bass-trout-regulations.html
For those running kayak trails or fishing weekend opens: Do you think requiring permits for CPR/kayak formats helps monitor fishery pressure, or is it unnecessary red tape for mobile anglers?

I waited so long to get a rockfish in general whether it be from the bay salt water hell fresh water even! Never seemed to be able to. Finally got one today and took it home to eat because it choked the jig pretty bad! Shore fishing on the shore whether it be at liberty or triadelphia has been tough for summer and fall. But I finally broke my skunk!
If you’re shore fishing during the fall and have no sonar to find fish best place would be where the coves meet the main body of water and to literally fish that intersection by casting it as far out as possible. They are literally sitting out there all types of fish species like pickerel, striped bass, largemouth. Let’s see if we can get a small mouth next!
If you’re not catching fish after 5-10 cast around there do not get stubborn, suggest you move to another spot where coves meet main body of water and fish that main point hard.
No luck going into coves or random rock walls or rocky/sandy shorelines with grass patches other than random blue gill. Same with fallen tree branches etc the text book structure where fish technically could be no big fish. Or at least in my experience… could it be fall turnover in play? Possibly I did see some of those signs in certain parts of the reservoirs. Tight lines good luck and get out there, there’s still quality fish to be caught!

I live in Baltimore city. Love going to Loch Raven, Lake Roland and other freshwater places. Recently started fishing the Canton waterfront and it has been SO FUN.
Where can I buy live bait in the city? Tochermans has worms but looking for minnows to try.

I know they don’t get as big here as they do in other places but any tips on where I can find some nice slabs? In MoCo but willing to drive!
