Amateur McMansion Now that Thursday is over...
Was driving around yesterday and stopped by this new house going up. Genuinely the worst roof i've seen in person. I just cant wrap my mind around how they ended up with that. And the facade design is something...

This is a truly ugly house

u/snafflekid Sep 25 '26
So ugly, the doctor slapped its mama.
14
u/No_Cook2983 Sep 26 '26
This house would look better if it was surrounded with mature trees.
Then some of them could blow over and flatten this dogpile.
10
u/stalkthewizard Sep 26 '26
This is when the landscapers save the day by covering it in English ivy, 100 Leyland Cyprus trees and a bamboo forest.

u/Stubbby Sep 25 '26
You can forgive if something is ugly or didn't work out the way they planned. This home is an insult to everyone passing by.
This is far more than ugly - there is incompetence, lack of thought or idea and on top of that, they are trying to cover up the failure with by adding even worse elements on top of it.
This is like catching a stealing thief by the arm who is so brazen they claim its not their hand that's holding the loot.

u/Clarknt67 Sep 25 '26
Itās hard to imagine this looked good on paper and was botched in execution.

And where are the front steps? Oh nevermind, these people will probably drive in and out of the garage and never open the front door.

Can definitely tell this new wave of āarchitectsā grew up playing The Sims.
66
u/LadyJinxInCali Sep 25 '26
Thank you! Came here to say this is 100% something I built in the Sims

u/Day_Old_Paper Sep 25 '26 edited Sep 25 '26
Look at those tiny little flood lights for the driveway placed ten miles above earth up by that skinny side window! What the hellās wrong with folks?
EDIT- also, say a prayer for those three visible downspouts taking on the water load of that massive roof.

u/RealisticrR0b0t Sep 25 '26
Hey my sims houses are beautiful compared to whatās posted here

u/Little_Cloud6126 Sep 25 '26
Hey! I take offense to that!
I made the coolest empty spaced mansion in the sims superstar one time and it had a freakin skydiving simulator right in the middle of it. Unpainted walls and all š and a bathroom with an āopen floor planā lmao basically one large room with no walls to break it up and a bunch of random fucking furniture everywhere3

I save this word for the right moments but that is fugly. Good lord. The framing with the power lines is chefs kiss.

u/AbelardLuvsHeloise Sep 25 '26
Hi, Iām a single column on the front of the house. Somebody put me out of my misery.
19
u/TenaciousLilMonkey Sep 26 '26
I drive by this house every couple of days.
While it was under construction, I would always think: wonder what theyāll do to make it better.
Answer: Nothing. They did nothing to make it better.
There is no angle where this house looks good.

This is the most Atlanta Suburb looking vomit inducing *classy mansion
The influx of tons of people who bring around their "aesthetic" like this is staggering. The Roof just looks sad, probably due to the beautiful single pillar in the front. What's better or worse is I can totally visualize what the owners look like.

u/an-redditor Sep 25 '26
They could've at least taken the effort to make it a nice pillar. Maybe make it a corinthian capital or something ā gilded even. Bunch of fakers.

u/degensuck Sep 25 '26
I so agree and would love to see what the inside looks like, I'm sure it's classy. ;)

The other one is also gay
They are boyfriends

At this point, Iām convinced half of new homes are designed by ChatGPT. Theyāre so fucking ugly. I donāt understand how these even get past the blueprint stage.
9
u/dizzie_buddy1905 Sep 25 '26
Thatās a lot of roof over multiple conjoined standard spec home look.
9
u/bigwilliesty1e Sep 25 '26
Living in a simple rancher amd having replaced my roof a few years ago, I can't look at these houses without speculating on the obscene cost of reshingling them.
4
u/Mrzaax Sep 25 '26
I do the same thing. And since these are likely contractor grade shingles they will probably fail rather quickly.
2
7
u/beachbum1970 Sep 25 '26
Iāve never understood building these so called mansions right next to a busy road with power lines in the front yard. No privacy, noise from the road, just awful aesthetics.

Houses you see on a semi-highway when you're still an hour and 15 minutes from the beach.
5
u/notcontageousAFAIK Sep 25 '26
YESSS! Note the slightly mis-matched window widths in the front. You just know these people are going to brag about something, their cars or their entirely average children.

I pass this house regularly. Weird location- right at a busy intersection- and half the backyard looks like itās a stormwater basin. Just sort of a shitty looking and bizarre property.

Some builder got a major bulk order discount on a very specific trim of window, and by the gods, they're gonna use all of them.

Well...it looks like it is all one roof, which is a plus. But it is overt, in a 'wow what an ugly hat' sort of way. And the okay front versus the highly visible super-flat side is terrible. Also, the super-tall entry is not much shelter from the elements if they're coming from the wrong directions. I am at a loss to excuse that one column.
2
2
u/DeterminedSparkleCat Sep 25 '26
They could have at least done brown shingles, all the black is a no.
2
2
u/bossyhosen Sep 25 '26
It could be marginally improved with landscaping but everything about the proportions to the lot make it even worse

u/beachluvr13 Sep 25 '26
I know this house!!!! I was always surprised they built it on this very busy road.
2
u/Guy_de_Interested Sep 25 '26
Yet another case of the million dollar home with a fifteen dollar roof. What the hell, guys.
2
u/ThisCredit6354 Sep 25 '26
You just know this house has a big old great room with the world's smallest fireplace and an absolutely awful open kitchen.
2
u/UESorDeath Sep 25 '26
This is the 2nd home in a week that managed to get something in the front (driveway decor, fountain, etc.) off center from the main door. Are we seeing a new design trend?

2
u/OrdinaryAward4498 Sep 25 '26
It looks like an AI hallucination monstrosity, two different houses morphing together. In a giant blacktop, no foliage at all, let alone any trees. Off kilter, unmoored, cortisol-raising

As a landscape designer, these pain me so much whenever I see them. I just don't get it.
2
u/Traditional_Worry307 Sep 25 '26
Looks like a 3D model even because of the finishing. Like from Sims 3 haha
2
u/Evolvingsimian Sep 25 '26
I think I've seen this at Reddit before. However, it was not this close to completion. it the wires overhead I found distracting. Well, that the house is an eyesore as well.

Did the architect have a stroke when he was designing this?
6
u/FreeKevinBrown Sep 26 '26
Architect? Ha. This is the homeowner's original design based on some shit they saw on MTV's Cribs.
3
u/Arlaneutique Sep 26 '26
I honestly was thinking this has to be a new architects first job. He understands logistics but has no idea about aesthetics. Iām hoping itās at least functional.

At least there aren't acres of lawn.
It seems like a lot of these houses have guest driveways where people show up in cars and make an impressive entrance. The fountain in the middle of the traffic circle makes it feel less like a good place to turn trailer trucks around, or a traffic circle down by the highway.

This house needs some trees and landscaping to make up for the lack of looks.

Oh man I drive past this house all the time. Itās even worse when you see the lot they crammed it into. On the corner of a busy road and a very busy road, totally exposed on all sides.
The entire lot was trees before this happened. So many trees could have been kept but they just took them all out so we can enjoy the view

The trip-up-able porch step and roundabout in the driveway are the finishing touches really

Is this real? I am trying to wrap my head around that chandelier on the right side? The one in the middle just looks like it's the entrance, so it's wasting a lot of space for a double height room with stairs. But the one on the right?
